    Cancelling my reservation

Its not a presumption. Elon has set a timeline for production on the model 3 many times in conference calls. Those estimates put MANY people in line for full tax credit. We didn't invent those numbers, we interpreted them. If this was a 100K car or the tax credit wasn't expiring soon, throwing...

    Cancelling my reservation

Make that two of us. I reserved the model 3, but the baby is here and the model 3 is not. my old 2-seater wouldn't work so we bought an xc60. i recommend it if you're going the ICE route.

    Cancelling my reservation

i thought the intent was to bring the EVs to the masses. if by masses, you mean upper middle class, then elon succeeded. with this delay, EVERY one of the 200K teslas delivered with a full tax credit in the US will be to those who can afford a $45K car (or much greater). All of those fringe...

    Model 3 reservations are non-transferable

And how does that affect tax credit status? Do I apply for it and pass on to them? Does it make the vehicle ineligible?
  5. F

    Model 3 reservations are non-transferable

Soliciting comments from passionate Tesla fans that may affect their tax credit status is probably not going to get you unbiased answers. You'll probably get a lot of the canned 'no transfers and tax credit is only for the reserver' responses -- which may be true, but to truly find out, you'll...

    EV Tax Credit

Curious on status of the tax credit. Anyone have figures on how many US teslas sold? What are the projections for the 200K car being delivered, with Model 3 deliveries not hitting elon's projections?

    Let's talk financing rates

Sure, rates are low -- but its also a depreciating asset. and with 10 years of stock market gains in a cyclical market, I'd bet on 2-4 bad years before that loan is paid. Everyone choses their gamble..I'm not betting on this president =p
  8. F

    Let's talk financing rates

just bought a car at 2.19% for 5 years. my bank has very similar rates to what OP provided. Not sure Telsa Financing is as willing to beat bank rates as traditional dealers are.

    Let's talk financing rates

my pointer would be not to take a 72 month auto loan..

    Automatic door unlock

You'd still need to push/pull the door open (based on whether you're inside/outside) when you unlock via button. My understanding is that the current button inside the car only props the door open a slight bit. It isn't some sort of hydraulic hinge that auto opens like falcon wing doors on the...

No tax credit good for Tesla?

It wouldn't be be bad if it happened in 18 months. It would not be good at all if it happened next month. Tesla has 500K reservations lined up, and deals with part suppliers based on that demand. I'm sure cutting those numbers will hurt the pricing they are receiving from partners, and thus the...

GOP tax reform bill would end the $7500 EV tax credit (and other tax related grousing and grumbling)

Unfortunately the oil industry has much deeper (and richer) ties than the EV community. Is there even such a thing as an EV 'lobbyist'?.. I'm hopeful but not optimistic about this tax credit getting maimed. Maybe they can put it off for a year, but I really doubt it'll be taken off the table.

GOP tax reform bill would end the $7500 EV tax credit (and other tax related grousing and grumbling)

This is what Elon gets for leaving Trumps council  I don't know how this can be spun as a positive for tesla going forward...sure it helped them launch the brand, but they are fully invested in electric. without incentives, ICEs become more attractive. I can see a TON of...

Anyone else tired of the "anti" selling of M3?

I reckon not many...its only a month delay. If you waited it out over a year, a month isn't a ton -- thought im sure it seems like end of the world to many. that being said, i might be one of the cancellations if my father in law doesn't want my reservation. i bought a different car 3 weeks ago.

Two Model 3 Sightings in 10 minutes

kinda makes you wish they had a model Y out sooner. the car is going to go from 'very exclusive' to 'if i see another model 3, im gonna...' in less than a year.

Do NOT try to buy an early employee Model 3 used any time soon....

I don't see what non-employee deliveries have to do with it. The agreement makes no mention of it, and these initial model 3's will still be saleable at over retail cost for some time.
  18. F

Do NOT try to buy an early employee Model 3 used any time soon....

I really doubt they can do this to the resale buyer. sure they can enter into an agreement with their employees to deter them from selling, but they can't punish a buyer who has no relationship to tesla and has not accepted that agreement.

Model 3 "Production Bottlenecks" lead to lower-than-anticipated Q3 delivery #s

You realize they don't stop selling S/X models during this model 3 slow down -- right? The slower model 3s are built, the fewer they build before they hit 200k cars in the US, and ultimately that'll translate to fewer model 3 owners getting the credit before the phaseout begins. You can't...

Why did you cancel your Model 3 reservation?

Haven't cancelled yet, but ordered a different car already. Holding on to see if a family member wants it. The model 3 didn't have enough cool factor for me to skip out on a more practical SUV for a growing family.

    Here's why the 3 isn't a mainstream "affordable" car

how are you better off getting the model S -- you are going to run into the same problems as they charge for other colors, upgraded wheels, etc. when you factor in that gas is more expensive than electric on per mile basis, and maintenance 'should' be less, a tesla that costs a few thousand...

Saw the Model 3 at Monterey car week....thoughts

10% gain is substantial. The concern now is whether the stated range from Tesla includes the aero wheels. Upgrading to the 19" wheels could make range 198 or 279 depending on the battery you choose, which sounds less impressive missing the 200 and 300 mile marks

I think I might stain my wood dash...

I haven't gotten the result i expected with grey stains that I've tried...wood finishing is an art. I personally wouldn't do it without testing on scrap first -- especially in a $35K+ car, but you may get a result you like on the first shot. good luck

Going to pass on AWD to get my Model 3 sooner, anyone else doing the same?

.... ..a better value, sure -- but a better car? slower, less storage, lesser finishes, fewer options available, less range, design you could argue, they added some door cupholders -- i guess thats cool
  29. F

Going to pass on AWD to get my Model 3 sooner, anyone else doing the same?

the car will have different motor(s) and presumably different tires. the weight of the car will be different as well. sure, cheddar and swiss are both cheese...that doesn't mean they taste the same
  30. F

Going to pass on AWD to get my Model 3 sooner, anyone else doing the same?

Model 3 != Model S. It has proven a dangerous precedent to assume Model 3 features, quality, performance, etc will equal that of the Model S. While I'm sure it'll be great among its peers, this car costs considerably less than the MS, and nothing is free -- so I wouldn't assume equal traction...

    Carbon Fiber Dash?

not speaking to the top as much as the area you are staring at. there are no curves, no stitching, no layers, no detail to the dash. looks like they just threw a strip of wood on the thing to break up the black.
  32. F

    Pictures of production Model 3s

Can you do the same with black? =)
  33. F

    Carbon Fiber Dash?

by detail, i don't mean adding buttons or functions. i mean design details. the dash is so linear, and frankly, boring.
  34. F

    Carbon Fiber Dash?

I believe that materials used are good for a vehicle of this price. I think the field of vision is probably best of maybe any car. Reviewers can highlight these positives, but there will still be over half the people who receive this car who will wish they put more detail into the interior.
  35. F

    Carbon Fiber Dash?

wow, the carbon fiber actually looks better. if they put some CF door accents too, the interior probably wouldn't get so many complaints.

455,000 active reservations at the time of the July Model 3 event.

I wouldn't even call it a reveal..they showed the exterior of a couple cars and gave the mileage figures.
  38. F

Why did you cancel your Model 3 reservation?

My understanding is the phones bluetooth acts as a FOB. If you are within BT range of the car, it should auto unlock, just as your FOB would. keycard would only be used in instances of losing your phone, BT not working etc as an override to gain access to the car. It's not your primary source...

Test Drive opportunity before completing order?

I would think they'd push them from west to east coast, just like deliveries. west coast will be getting their cars first, so it only makes sense that they'd have more urgency to drive first.
  40. F

Why did you cancel your Model 3 reservation?

I dont get the 'no fob' outrage. You carry a wallet of some sort, right? put the swipe card in there...it must be credit card sized.
  41. F

First production or wait for awd?

Depends on your situation. I live in NJ and planned on rwd, but my wife has an SUV and works from home in snow and such, so I could use her car in inclement weather. If it is your only car, and waiting doesn't affect your tax credit tier, I'd probably wait. If not, its more a matter of how...

Why don't people compare range while comparing with ICE cars?

For those who use the car as just a work commuter, they never have to sit somewhere and refuel -- they charge at home. I lost my patience with Tesla and bought another car, but had planned on an ICE for our family car and the Tesla for my day to day commuting, which 220 miles would be plenty...

    Battery is big disappointment

isn't the gap in mileage larger on the model 3 than teslas other cars? maybe base battery is less than the anticipated 55kwh.. Either way, 9K battery upgrade will have many people budgeting their options a bit differently than they hoped. I thought it would be somewhere in the 5-7K range.

    Model 3 Handover Event -- July 28, 2017

what a disappointment. a year and a half of holding our cash -- these cars are now driving on the street and we still have no idea what options are available and what they cost? somehow people here will make excuses as to why that is acceptable to them. so glad i preordered an xc60 since my...

"Even if you buy no options at all, this will still be an amazing car!"

I agree traditional car companies haven't advanced much over the past 30 years. They are happy with the status quo, but Tesla has shaken that up and I don't see most of them sticking to the ICE as first priority mentality for much longer. Will they still sell ICE's?...sure, but I do think real...

"Even if you buy no options at all, this will still be an amazing car!"

I see 300 cars of those brands on the road for every tesla i see in my area -- granted those companies have been around a lot longer. I'm not crowning any of them the leader in EVs -- Tesla clearly has a firm hold on that position, but I think its naive to think that their collective move...
