    4/18 Invites

Took delivery this evening at Highland Park service center just north of Chicago. It was sort of a batch delivery, I think 10 total. We all sat and had a workshop/Q&A for about 20-30 minutes. Having been on this forum for years, I knew everything they went over. Still fun to see newbies react to...

    Winter wheel/tire strategy

Yeah, I was thinking I could try to squeeze them in there. I have a tight 2 car garage that, as of tomorrow (my delivery date!), will have two cars in it. I’m thinking there won’t be much extra room. I also have a crawl space area under my porch that might have room. It’ll get hot in the summer...

    Winter wheel/tire strategy

For those that responded they have done this previously with a complete 2nd set of rims/tires... Where do you store the other set when not in use??

    4/18 Invites

I configured 4/18. Received VIN 5/14. Had a delivery scheduled for Monday June 4. Last week I got an email inviting me to a “Welcome Workshop” to learn about ownership & a Q&A session for tomorrow at 5pm at the local service center. I’ve been planning on attending that. Then today I got a call...

anyone emailed their config sales rep this week?

If it eases you at all, when I wasn’t getting the correct terms, my ISA said that it wasn’t going to change my delivery timeline. I had every other box green checked, they knew my financing was approved, so the difference of a couple hours or a day to 100% accept the loan terms wasn’t going to...

anyone emailed their config sales rep this week?

Literally same thing happened to me last week. Got the loan terms emailed at like 7pm central Monday night. It was for 48 months, I replied right away saying it all looked good but I wanted 60 months. When I didn’t hear back by noon Tuesday, I called the credit guy, left a VM, called the Tesla...

Random ppl scoping out your car

Last week I was on the expressway and saw what appeared to be a blue 3 about 5 car lengths in front of me. Since I hadn’t seen a blue yet, and that is my configuration (10 more days till delivery...) I sped up to get a good look. Drove next to the car for a few seconds safely gawking, the lady...

    Pictures of production Model 3s

First Model 3 I saw was silver. Was also surprised at how much I liked it. If I hadn’t already owned multiple silver cars, I probably would’ve gone with this.

    Woodpecker Inspects a Model 3

He must’ve gotten really impatient waiting for his VIN and just wanted a car now. Anyone ask when he reserved/configured? :p

    VIN Assignment

I think this is the main point. I know the time frames are different depending on your insurance, but I’m pretty sure almost all companies have this policy. Your current coverage counts to a new purchase for “X” amount of days. I’ve heard some are 3, some are 7, etc.

    VIN Assignment

Well I specifically asked if the current proof of insurance for my Mazda was ok to bring in for my delivery and he definitely said yes. I was going to call my insurance provider to add the model 3 the day of my delivery anyway, and can probably get instant proof online. But it’s funny to be...

    VIN Assignment

You can use current vehicle insurance. My ISA said that’s fine for the website & even to take delivery. They don’t need proof you got insurance for the 3

Model 3 - Tips for dog owners

Yeah, no problem. Fingers crossed, 2 weeks from today will be my first full day with the car. I’m sure we’ll want to take the dog for a ride ASAP so I’ll have it setup pretty quick. I honestly was hesitant at first at how much I wanted my dog to ride in the 3. But she’s too much a part of the...

Model 3 - Tips for dog owners

I’ll add to the Orvis recommendations. I have the foam backseat extenders for our current car (Mazda cx5) and will be switching them into my Model 3 when I take the dog for rides. We currently just lay a quilt down in the backseat and over the foam extenders. But I’ll be ordering the Orvis seat...

    Did Elon drive my car?

You didn’t happen to find a pencil in the glove box, preferably with teeth marks, did you?

    4/18 Invites

Wow 9 months?? I’d been second guessing my decision to go ahead with RWD since the AWD is (maybe) ready to configure. I thought maybe it’d add 3-6 months if I asked to change, but 9?! Yikes. Guess it was a good choice to configure so I get full tax credit & just find a set of winter tires.

    Order estimate pushed back

I did not receive this email but I do have a June delivery scheduled. I think I was just one of the ‘lucky’ ones to make the cutoff before these new policies and actions took place. But I gotta say, knowing this new info, I saw the writing on the wall. Finally got my VIN last week & got super...

    Order estimate pushed back

I’m also thinking it’s not a coincidence they had a policy change the other day to withhold VINs until 7 days before delivery. I know there’s been lots of discussion as to why they did that. But this delay email now makes me think they are still ramping production, assigning VINs, but trying to...

    VIN Assignment

FWIW, I received my VIN last week and then had it disappear. Just tried the HPWC in the store trick and I do in fact see my assigned VIN from last week. So I think it’s safe to say those are you VINs....yay!

    Delivery Fee

Right, destination fee. I’ve heard it referred to as delivery fee sometimes, so yes same thing I was asking about. I do know it’s a standard fee for any car purchase. So I understand it’s in the second picture I posted as one of those “fees”, but then it’s not a part of the $4,610 in the first...

    Delivery Fee

I received my VIN earlier this week (before the policy change removing the VINs). While going through the process of getting loan terms through Tesla Finance, I noticed something in the final price of the car. On my Tesla account page, it lists my price as $55,000 which is accurate. Base price...

Elon says AWD and Perf orders start at end of next week!

I configured on 4/18. Still waiting for my VIN. Upon my daily (hourly) check to see any updates, I noticed a new note on my account info. Unfortunately still no VIN but seeing this is interesting with Elon’s news today. Maybe those asking if you’ve configured but want to switch to AWD or P can...

    Unbelievable.

Sounds very similar to how I found out today. I had just got home from running errands, and was thinking about the nice S that had passed me while out, day dreaming about being an owner soon... So thought what the hell, I’ll check my account for the 10th time today. I was shocked to see the...

OH MY DOG, I just got THE invitation!

I was finally able to catch my breath! Didn’t get an email, just went to update my account like I do ten times every time. Almost fainted when I didn’t see the typical “next steps” and instead saw “ready to design”. I reserved online immediately at 8:30 central time. Chicago area. Had a busy day...

Non Owner - Just Placed my Order

Yeah, I know the feeling. Day 1 Chicago reservation holder too. When I heard Canadians were getting invites I rushed to my account to refresh and saw nothing. Somebody in Canada made a point that it could be for tax credit purposes. Start selling a few up there and wait until the start of a new...

    Pictures of production Model 3s

Finally saw not one but two Model 3's for the first time today! Chicago reservation holder here. Been dying to see one in person. In LA for business trip, noticed my hotel was only 15-20 min from Hawthorne. So after work, me & 2 coworker friends (also reservation holders) headed to Space X on...

    There is a DOG

Is it typical for Tesla to require photocopies of license & insurance at time of configure? First I've heard of it. But it is a detail I would understand being left out while describing the configure process for previous owners. Just speculating, but I saw one of the reservation holders to get...

    There is a DOG

Congrats! Great choice on your configure, pretty sure I'll be doing the exact same. Can't let the 18" aero naysayers get to me. I save $1500, get better range, and sorry but the aesthetics of the aero's don't bother me at all! Anyway, congrats again, pretty exciting.

Rough Power Situation - Should I upgrade? Electric advice sought

I went to a Tesla store (I don't think they like being called 'dealers' but anyway...) to see if they had any adaptors for sale. They did not, said to order online or drive to the larger Tesla service center in my area, not the smaller mall store I visited. Decided to just order the 14-30...

    Pictures of production Model 3s

Seriously. I appreciate all the videos OCD has done, given us the most access to the car yet. But it's cringeworthy at times hearing him incorrectly describe something, or criticize something that will clearly be updated by time actual customers get it. I know more about the car & still haven't...

Rough Power Situation - Should I upgrade? Electric advice sought

Gotcha. That makes sense. One of the four electricians noticed my meter is a bit newer & he said is capable of 200amp service. Not sure if the wires to my house are 200 though. I guess that's what I would need to inquire about. So then is it just a sub panel with that other 100amp, and a 240...

Rough Power Situation - Should I upgrade? Electric advice sought

That's interesting. I was curious if I could do something like this with my current situation. I have a detached garage with access from an alley where the utility poles & electric lines are. There's a transformer on a pole just off my garage in the alley. I was wondering if there was any way to...

Rough Power Situation - Should I upgrade? Electric advice sought

I am currently gathering quotes on getting a 240V line run to my detached garage. Just had my 4th electrician come today & give his thoughts. I am finding myself in a somewhat similar situation as the OP. My house is very old, but before I took ownership (10 months ago) it was completely...

    Point A to Point B

I can't imagine you'd be in the minority. I have to think most people participating on a Tesla forum are enthusiasts as well. I'm a mix of car, EV, tech enthusiast. Not trying to add to any negativity, but I'd like to think the "car as a necessity" people on TMC are in the minority. I mean come...

    Point A to Point B

I do kind of agree with the OP, I have noticed more complaining and negativity lately. But I do not agree with your point of this is simply a car to get you from point A to B. That's like someone telling Steve Jobs to not make the iPhone. "It's simply a phone Steve! Stop trying to change it...

Any 3/31 reservation holders or owners who won't order until you can lease?

I've experienced both buying & leasing cars, and really see the arguments on both sides. I'm currently 2.5 years into a lease and have liked it. Probably the best part was getting "more" car for a smaller payment. I basically got a fully loaded top of the line model (Mazda CX-5) for a payment...

Wall Charger Installation Quote - Review

I got my first quote the other day from an electrician. My house is 100 amp service, and even though I have space to add a 50 amp breaker, he said it would be close to exceeding my service level. He said it's possible I wouldn't since the only other big draw I have is from my air conditioner...

    How choose your charger?

I agree. If I'm already spending that much, the extra hundred bucks is worth it for future proofing. Not sure what I would need to add, but who knows. If I got a second Tesla for my wife one day (wishful thinking), I could just install the Wall Charger on the existing 240 line to charge both cars.
  46. galbrecht7

    How choose your charger?

Thanks! Good luck to you too. I thought I remembered reading in this thread that someone was quoted $5000, so that's why I wanted to post my experience to compare. That quote seems absurd. Where would they get that number from? Parts aren't that pricey, so unless their labor costs are through...
  47. galbrecht7

    How choose your charger?

Definitely my mistake, sorry. I know it's 240, electrician knows 240 (I checked the paperwork just to make sure). I'm a novice to electrical work, and thought it was still 220 when first inquiring. Thanks for correcting me.
  48. galbrecht7

    How choose your charger?

Just had an electric company out to my house to give an estimate on installing a 220v line & NEMA 14-50 outlet in my detached garage. I have a 110v line already ran to the garage, so was hoping they could use that existing conduit. Well it turns out there is no existing conduit, the 110v line...

Going to pass on AWD to get my Model 3 sooner, anyone else doing the same?

Awesome, I really appreciate the suggestions. Going to do some legwork now on picking out a good set so when I (hopefully) take delivery this winter, I'll already have a winter set ready to have put on.

Going to pass on AWD to get my Model 3 sooner, anyone else doing the same?

My parents recently moved to Michigan & my dad was considering an upgrade to an AWD car. A neighbor mentioned looking into winter tires as well, so must be a common suggestion from Michigan. Thanks for your input, I'll definitely look into a winter tire set for my M3.
