What Would Compel You To Upgrade to a Future Model X?

X with 20” wheels, in grey, with your choice of interior color, is just under $80k — less tax credit makes it a $72k vehicle….still a chunk of change but, at least in my opinion, a lot of car for the money. Our last one was $40k more with less tech, old interior, and less range.

MY 2024 Refresh - Project Juniper?

“….if the statement from Tesla is to be believed” ….we’d have been driving on full FSD since 2017, the Roadster 2 would be in it’s second/third year of production and Robotaxis would be everywhere, but, alas, I digress….

    Model X Wheels on a Model S!?

I’ve never owned an X but this is exactly what I would do if I did. I did opt for 20” Model X wheels on my Model S which seemed, at least to me, to be the Goldilocks size option. 21s on an X would fall into the same category. Well done.

Maximum Tires Size Model Y Performance?

If staggered as suggested above, then… F: 20x9.5 wheel with 255/45R20 rubber R: 20x10.5 wheel with 285/40R20 rubber This would result in rubber that is roughly 1” wider on the rear to match the 1” wider wheel as well as an overall diameter and sidewall dimension that is virtually identical...

Maximum Tires Size Model Y Performance?

45s on 20” wheels will be fine (255/45R20 overall diameter is actually marginally LESS than the 265/40R21 that I and many others run on the MPP). And, if a square set up is important, I’d go with the 9.5” wheels and *perhaps* use a spacer on the rear to push the wheel outward for a more...

    Model Y changes over time

Upsize the tires. There’s plenty of room (too much room) in the MYP wheel wells for taller tires. Flip the rears to the front and buy new rears (295/35r21 or 305/35r21 or 285/40r21). Easy and inexpensive fix. Lots of threads on this forum with details and pictures.

    Roof bars dimensions

Fair, however, and merely as one data point, I installed four suction cups on a friend’s X just over one year ago so he could carry his SUP (stand up paddleboard) to the beach and is has been working perfectly. Yes, just one case study, but he’s thrilled and it seems to be working well. As...

Use suction cups—works extremely well in many (most?) circumstances. Good luck.

Maximum Tires Size Model Y Performance?

Ah—gotcha. Good luck—hope it works. Please post a pic if/when you install the larger rubber.
  10. MJP.P3D-

Maximum Tires Size Model Y Performance?

@Zain Kolsy — in my experience, you won’t need lowering springs…the car will actually appear lowered simply due to the significant reduction in the gap between the tire and fender as a result of the increased sidewall. Good luck.

Best roof rack and hard shell “coffin”?

Just the bars, which are one piece and thus avoid the need for foot-packs, towers, and bars of the aftermarket systems. I did remove the manufacturer name from my box in favor of some Tesla logos but that’s purely for aesthetics.
  12. MJP.P3D-

Best roof rack and hard shell “coffin”?

Best option is the OEM Tesla spec IMO — clean, simple, aerodynamic and fits like a glove. Good luck.

Used Model S vs New Model Y

The Y is the best overall package IMO (size, utility, price, features) but sacrifices a few items that are important to me in an effort to save costs. The adaptive air suspension on the S/X is objectively better (I paid $3k to add a Mountain Pass Performance coil-over suspension to my Model 3...

Used Model S vs New Model Y

Speaking as a prior S owner, and as a current Y owner (who really prefers the S), this is about as straightforward of a decision as there is….get the new Model Y and never look back. #nobrainer

Another Direct Model X vs. Rivian Comparison: My Personal Experience

I think the point that @kizamybute' was making is that the Rivian comes standard/OEM with a power frunk. Given this information, it seems clear that “legacy US auto regulations“ do not prevent its inclusion. The decision to maintain a less useful and manually operated frunk seems to belong...
  17. MJP.P3D-

Maximum Tires Size Model Y Performance?

Hmmm. Overall diameter and sidewall height are both less than OEM thus negating some of the reasons for making this change. For my money, I’d stick with 295/35 or 305/35 and leave the 30 aspect rubber for others, but, the great thing about this world is we all have choices…. Good luck.

  20. MJP.P3D-

Maximum Tires Size Model Y Performance?

For me, less than 3% reduction on the highway; closer to 7-8% around town. For those planning to calculate your own values, please remember to adjust for the increased circumference of the new tire spec, which will serve to offset some of the perceived increase in consumption. As always, YMMV...

Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 on Uberturbines- 265/35 & 275/35R21

    WTT - Wheel swap?

If you have all-seasons already, move the 275/35 rears to the front and buy either 295/35 or 295/40 for the rear. Win! Otherwise, I like 265/40 on the front with either of the above mentioned options on the rear. Good luck.
  25. MJP.P3D-

    WTT - Wheel swap?

Another option: keep the wheels and upgrade the tires for better aesthetics, a better ride, enhanced wheel protection, etc. You’ll likely find few takers willing to offer cash plus their OEM wheels….but worth a shot. Good luck.

Model 3 Black Headliner, White Interior, Ingenext Ghost & More for sale

@ShockYT From where did you purchase the black headliner? And, did it come with all the plastic bits painted as well (sun visor brackets, seat belt, coat hooks, etc)? Love this mod and would like to add to my Y if “reasonably” priced. Thanks and good luck with your sale.

Discussion: Model 3 and Y price drop Jan 2023 / April 2023 / Oct 2023 and All other Pricing Speculation going forward

Ask your insurance provider; much better than asking anyone on this forum. They can provide you an actual quote and, if acceptable, update your policy. Those on this forum, while seasoned and experienced, can only speculate without the ability to provide details for your specific situation. Good...

Discussion: Model 3 and Y price drop Jan 2023 / April 2023 / Oct 2023 and All other Pricing Speculation going forward

Very interesting—thanks for sharing this. Any chance you have something similar for the MYP?
  32. MJP.P3D-

Maximum Tires Size Model Y Performance?

For winter tires, you may be better off acquiring a set of 19” wheels on which you could mount a dedicated set of winter rubber without altering the current 21” setup. This would have the added benefit of allowing you to run narrower tires (assuming the 19” wheels are narrower than the current...

  36. MJP.P3D-

Maximum Tires Size Model Y Performance?

Interesting but does seem a bit small in overall diameter—was this a conscious choice? For reference, I run 295/35R21 (rears) on my MYP with nearly perfect fitment. Curious as to your thoughts on running something significantly smaller than stock. Thanks.

    Model T Roof Rack Noise

*except: one quarter of a gallon of gas = $1.25 (CA est) and 1.5% (~1.2kW) for 12 hours of Sentry Mode (and peace of mind) is $0.15 (or less, if you charge at the office for free). And—the hit to efficiency is really only at higher (highway) speeds. On surface roads, the range impact is markedly...

    PPF Yes or No?

You should be able to get a full body paint correction, PPF on the front only (bumper, hood, front fenders, mirror caps) and full body ceramic coating for 1/2 this price ($4000-ish). Better buy IMO but only you can decide what’s best for your specific situation. In any case, I hope you enjoy...

    Comfort Suspension

…seemingly everything these days is subjective however for my money, the 21” Ubers wrapped in appropriately sized rubber (read: non-OEM spec) result in the best blend of ride, performance, aesthetics and price that can be reasonably obtained in a Model Y without resorting to major surgery. YMMV
  40. MJP.P3D-

    Comfort Suspension

The ride is improved much more than slightly and for the year that I‘ve been employing both techniques listed above, my efficiency (and ride) are both on-par with my wife’s MYLR (on 19” Geminis). WIN! Good luck.
  41. MJP.P3D-

    Comfort Suspension

Cheapest options for improving the ride of any Model Y: 1. Lower the air pressure to ~39psi 2. Upsize the tires to slightly increase the sidewall depth The first option is virtually effortless; the second comes at a slight cost however depending on current tire wear and the need for new rubber...

Maximum Tires Size Model Y Performance?

….reality check: range hit on city driving is ~7% while range hit on highway driving is negligible. My lead foot is a bigger hit to range than this tire spec. YMMV. Good luck.
