    2024 Eclipse Roadtrip Supercharger Experiences?

Given the highly unusual traffic patterns on and around April 8th 2024 (the day of the eclipse) with people driving to/from the path of totality, I thought it would be valuable/interesting to create a thread for people to share their experiences, particularly any congestion (or lack thereof)...

    Illinois rebate program

Wow. The rebates are being awarded real slow. Only 306 in the past 3 weeks according to the figures on the website. Unless they pick up the pace significantly, it’ll take months before the rest get awarded.

Tesla blesses other cars blocking two stalls due to short cord

I'm quite intrigued by how this all works with the adapter (although my understanding is certainly impeded by a lack of fully understanding how the existing CCS communication protocols work in practice. But with that said...) In the video that you linked here, the "Director of Charging...

Tesla blesses other cars blocking two stalls due to short cord

V3 Superchargers have liquid cooled cables, so any extension cable would have to be extra thick and heavy to carry the same current without overheating. And I’m guessing it would also probably require temperature sensors at one or both ends to throttle the current in case of overheating at the...

Tesla blesses other cars blocking two stalls due to short cord

That link isn't working for me. It got hyperlinked weird. This should work: https://www.tesla.com/findus?v=2&bounds=54.31521760104852,-58.133790250000004,21.940969366305985,-140.39941525&zoom=5&filters=supercharger,nacs,party

Ford says owners can start using superchargers today (Feb 29)

You also need to consider that due to charge port locations a Ford plugging in to a Supercharger will often block 2 stalls intead of just 1.

Why do you like your Tesla?

Sure. My point was just that as other OEMs get access to the Supercharger Network, there will be less reason to specifically buy a Tesla over one of those other OEMs specifically for DC charging.
  8. J

Why do you like your Tesla?

The Supercharger Network + fast and reliable DC charging would've been another good choice in this poll. Although that unique benefit to Tesla will be significantly diminished over the coming years as other OEMs adopt NACS and get access to significant portions of the Supercharger Network.

    Illinois rebate program

I’m similarly perplexed by that claim. It shouldn’t be possible based on what we know. I’d think you should be safe, having mailed yours on Nov 1st. There are lots more rebates still yet to be awarded based on the latest numbers posted online as of Feb 13th. They seem to be taking their time.

    S3XY Buttons Talk

An app update already went out (version 4.2.7) that fixed the issue for me. Pretty good turnaround time. 👍

Is it not clear you can't park here?

I did some quick internet snooping, and this one is kinda bizarre... Per Google Maps / PlugShare / Yelp photos, as recently as last October there were parking signs at each parking spot. Half of the signs said "TESLA Vehicle Charging Only" and the other half said "TESLA 15 Minute General...

HELP - Passenger window won't roll down can't close door

For reference, in this thread about someone with a similar issue, Tesla Service ended up replacing the "right side body controller and right rear window regulator assembly" to fix the issue.

    S3XY Buttons Talk

Same here. It was working normally yesterday, then my iPhone installed the 4.2.5 version of the S3XY iOS app overnight, and now it won't connect to my phone today. I tried turning on/off bluetooth, restarting app, restarting the phone, unplugging and plugging back in the commander...

    Illinois rebate program

I was starting to get nervous that I hadn't received anything yet, so I was reading through the FAQs and stumbled on a link to the comptroller's website where you can search for pending payments: https://illinoiscomptroller.gov/vendor-services/vendor-payments-new I punched in my SSN and name...

    NEW Model 3 Highland review!

I don’t think I’ll ever “get used to” you repeatedly posting this same comment in every thread about stalk removal. 😉 And aside from the repetition, I also disagree with the substance. I don’t think they mean the same thing, and someone might correctly use one or the other phrase depending on...

Why do Teslas make that sound?

The “forward” noise is more subtle than the “reversing” noise, but it’s there.

    Stranded due to stuck windows

The thing that intrigues me is that both windows on the same side would stop working at the same time, and then later one of those two would resume working, but calibrations would still fail for both. This thread showed someone else having a similar problem, but no resolution was posted.
  18. J

HELP - Passenger window won't roll down can't close door

Did this issue ever get resolved? Did Tesla Service have to get involved in any kind of fix/repair?

Trump will end Biden's EV (tax credit) policies

This thread title and discussion are conflating two different things: The Inflation Reduction Act includes the well known EV tax credit along with loads of other subsidies/incentives for climate related products and technologies. This would require legislation to change, so it's not something...

Non Tesla Charging at Tesla Supercharger station

Very true. The Bolt has a lot of things going for it, especially given its price point. But for someone with only one car who drives long distances multiple times per year, it’s the Bolt’s pitiful DC charging speeds that rule it out for me. 50kW max charging speeds is about 8 years behind the...

Non Tesla Charging at Tesla Supercharger station

I’d bet that person just mistakenly checked in under the listing for the Supercharger station instead of the ChargePoint J1772 station that’s in the same parking lot. There are a couple other check-ins from non-Teslas, and one of them mentions that one of the two plugs was broken, which clearly...

Non Tesla Charging at Tesla Supercharger station

I’m not finding that on Plugshare. Here’s what I’m finding: V2 (150kW) and no CCS plugs. But how then to explain what the OP saw with the Nissan plugged in? 🤔

Can you make it across the Navajo Reservation?

No first-hand knowledge unfortunately. Idk what settings differences in ABRP might explain it, but I’m able to get it to spit out a direct route from Tuba City to Cortez for a MYP (assuming you charge to 100% in Tuba City). With “season weather” selected, it’s cutting it very close (6%...

    CCS Retrofit Availability (2023)

I saw that some existing EVgo chargers come with Tesla connectors and make no mention of CCS compatibility being required, but they limit charging speeds to 50kW. In contrast, they advertise up to 250kW using their CCS connectors and a CCS-to-Tesla adapter, but they’re careful to state that you...

Just test drove a highland in Los Angeles

But they have since doubled down on eliminating stalks by expanding it to the 3, and likely soon the Y. And don't even get me started on Tesla Vision and parking sensors.
  27. J

Just test drove a highland in Los Angeles

Hopefully the teased S3XY Stalks come to fruition soon and give people a seemless retrofit option to add the stalks back. I don't foresee Tesla backtracking on stalkless unless/until Elon leaves the company. (🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞)

Just test drove a highland in Los Angeles

Teslas don't even have that option anymore.

    Turn signal now very loud

Did any of you have Joe Mode turned on? I use Joe Mode in my Model 3, and today I noticed the turn signal clicking was a lot louder than usual. I went into settings and confirmed that Joe Mode was still toggled on. So I toggled it off and back on again, and that immediately quieted the turn...

You had me with the first paragraph and then completely lost me with the second. 😆🤦‍♂️
  32. J

A way to get the battery temperature?

I think the confusion is that it’s only visible in Service Mode, not in the regular Service menu. To enter Service Mode, you go to the Software menu, press and hold the word "Model" for 3 seconds, then type in "service" as the access code and hit ok. Here’s one vid showing the process. Once...

Chicago area superchargers failing in cold

It appears mostly back to normal-ish today. Zero station closures today (vs 3-4 earlier in the week), most locations have 0 stalls out of order and the rest have at most 1-2 stalls out of order (vs most locations having 2-6 stalls out of order), and there are currently waits at only 4 locations...

Chicago area superchargers failing in cold

Re: people leaving cables on the ground… 2 thoughts I had: Sometimes people intentionally leave cables on the ground when a stall isn’t working as an attempt to signal to others not to bother using it. The “holster”/“dock” on Supercharger pedestals that the connector hangs from is not the most...
  35. J

Chicago area superchargers failing in cold

Way off on both population counts. Although I'm sure you're right about the per-capita difference. There is a 52-stall station planned near O'Hare. Otherwise, apart from this debacle, there generally haven't been significant congestion problems in Chicagoland like there have been in L.A...

    Supercharger - Oak Brook, IL

Oh please. Enough with the conspiracy mongering. This IS a very valid story to be reporting on and it's interesting to the general public. And to paraphrase Hanlon, never ascribe to malice that which can be adequately explained by ignorance. These reporters are not immersed in EV knowledge...

Chicago area superchargers failing in cold

I love the part at the end of the Fox32 clip where the reporter says that a car expert recommended that all EV owners “hit the battery precondition button on their car before attempting to charge it in extremely cold weather”. Too bad Teslas don’t have a button like that. They should IMO. (And...

Chicago area superchargers failing in cold

Ever since I had a scare with a few nonfunctional plugs at a Supercharger in central IL (Dwight, IL) on a frigid Xmas 2022, I’ve wondered if snow/ice in the connectors might play any role in individual stalls not working in the cold. If anyone could show that that’s a common failure mode, I’d...

Chicago area superchargers failing in cold

Also, if you only live a few miles away, even if you use navigation on the way to the SC, it won’t give the car enough time to meaningfully warm the battery anyway. Tesla should really give owners more visibility and control over preconditioning. You should be able to warm the battery...

Chicago area superchargers failing in cold

More local news coverage: Tesla being predictably AWOL in terms of not having any kind of public response only hurts them further than the already bad headlines.

New extreme cold weather casualty: bass from speakers

Just came here from 5 years in the future to say that I’m seeing the same thing in my 2023 Model 3 in -2F / -19C temps. Hopefully it fixes itself in warmer temps as others experienced above. I don’t recall ever having this issue in my old 2018 Model 3.

  44. J

Chicago area superchargers failing in cold

Some people don’t have home charging and rely on Superchargers for routine charging, not just long distance trips. Others rely on 120V 15A outlets for home charging, and those sometimes don’t have enough power to keep the battery warm enough to accept a charge in sub-zero F temperatures, so...

    No supercharge in bitter cold

It’s been frigid (below 0F for the past 24 hrs) in Chicago, and several area Supercharger stations are down completely, and the almost all of the rest show 2-6 of their stalls as out of order. It even got on the local news. It’s gotta be related to the temperature, or ice in the connectors, or...

Chicago area superchargers failing in cold

The app currently shows Oak Brook, Evergreen Park, and Rosemont as temporarily closed. Note that these three include 250kW, 150kW, and 72kW stations respectively, so the problems appear to extend across generations of supercharger hardware. And most other Chicagoland locations are showing...

Tesla launches Model 3 Highland refresh in North America - No Performance model listed as of 01.10.2024

    Illinois rebate program

Before I answer your questions, I have one for you… Do you qualify as a “low-income” applicant as defined in the application instructions? If not, I believe your chances of getting the rebate are very low. As shown on the IL EV Rebate website, there have already been more than 5,000...
