Model 3 "Performance Brake Calipers" just red or different altogether?

What's two piece rotor? - By definition it's an assembly of rotor hat and rotor disc with hardware having a feature allowing disc to expand and contract during heat cycles so to prevent the rotor from cracking or warping due to the volumatic change under different braking temperature. other than...

Model 3 "Performance Brake Calipers" just red or different altogether?

I agree. In general you want to leave the outboard (wheel spoke side) as widely open as possible to help inducing cool air for more efficient cooling; especially all Tesla models (S or M3) have a very tight clearance between rotor and dust shield on inboard. Usually with good help of cooling...

Model 3 "Performance Brake Calipers" just red or different altogether?

Seems Tesla did a better job than Mercedes in caliper cover. Picture showing MB's GT rear OE caliper (in red) for standard iron brake (CCM is in gold color). This is a CCB retro fit kit RB offers to convert iron to CCB. The stock rear is 360x26mm, front 390xx36mm fits under stock 19" wheels.

Model 3 "Performance Brake Calipers" just red or different altogether?

That was fast and thank you. I think I still stand correct, from the pic I am certain that it has the same exact caliper as non-PUP except with a nicer cover (make it looks like a fixed piston caliper) and red paint. This fancy cover requires extra overhead which may or may not fit 18" wheels...

Model 3 "Performance Brake Calipers" just red or different altogether?

I have seen that thread but nothing seems can be concluded about what the "upgraded" rear brake would look like. If someone has a model 3 with upgrade rear brake equipped I am certainly interested to take a look. According to the statement the caliper is larger, but rotor size is the same...

Model 3 "Performance Brake Calipers" just red or different altogether?

BBK for the rear is unlikely to be offered by Tesla nor by any aftermarket supplier (not impossible but it's quite involved), due to it's incorporated with an electronic parking brake (unlike S which has an auxiliary parking brake). A more practical upgrade for the rear, in our opinion, would...

Model 3 "Performance Brake Calipers" just red or different altogether?

This picture shows the standard rear brake (335mm) clearance to the stock 18" wheel barrel, not a lot but it does clear. As far as I know (with all researches), unlike the front brake, Tesla keeps the same rear brake for all model 3 regardless it's a base model or PUP.

Model 3 "Performance Brake Calipers" just red or different altogether?

5x114.3 is a very common lug bolt pattern for Japanese as well as American cars. The wheel was a take-off from Model 3 stock 18" (with aero wheel cover removed).

Model 3 front OE 1pc rotor (320x25mm) weight (used @10,000 miles): Track duty rotors (355x32mm) retrofit to model S caliper (compatible with model 3 hub/spindle) Rotor shown is still a model 3 rotor.

Upgrade to performance package after delivery

Thank you, I am learning... So if the default is PUP that means "no base model", if so where it comes a premium? Anyone is receiving or has Tesla started shipping the PUP! (Upgrade package) yet, what kind of brake in that package is what I am curious to find out so are other members. Model 3...

Upgrade to performance package after delivery

So your "Performance" model 3 is not a PUP? (Performance Upgrade Package?). Does anyone here know (or seen) how different of a PUP brake (caliper, rotor, pad) from a standard model 3, or if Tesla has been shipping model 3 w/PUP, if so any picture to share. I have done all searches (include...

Model 3 "Performance Brake Calipers" just red or different altogether?

Unfortunately it will not due to different lug bolt hole pattern and caliper offset between S and 3.

Model 3 "Performance Brake Calipers" just red or different altogether?

6 piston caliper does'nt necessary mean has a larger TOTAL piston area than a 4 piston caliper, which (area) is what the hydraulic force is applied. It's generally true that a 6 piston caliper uses larger (wider and deeper) pad than a 4 piston caliper, for delivering a more evenly distributed...

Model 3 "Performance Brake Calipers" just red or different altogether?

Front 355mm diameter is a published dimension by Tesla, although same in diameter as S but must be in different thickness due to different calipers.

Model 3 "Performance Brake Calipers" just red or different altogether?

Thank you. The performance brake package has 355*/335mm rotors (w/red calipers) while 355mm rotor kit in genera requires 18" wheels to fit, and since it still shows 1" clearance (2" total for both sides), so most likely they are 20" wheels. I assume the majority of M3 owners will have 18"...

Model 3 "Performance Brake Calipers" just red or different altogether?

Can you please clarify if the wheel size showing in the pictures with "quarter" clearance is a 18" or 19" wheel. Tks

Model 3 "Performance Brake Calipers" just red or different altogether?

Unless you are certain that their piston sizes are indeed different, until further proof with a physical check*, I would think they should probably have the same piston sizes based on the fact that the rear rotor size and caliper are the same on both models, being now the performance model has...

    Any issue with the brake?

    Brake Upgrade

One of the most distinct features, other than the incredible (until you hold them in your hand) weight saving, is the literally "dust free" braking. The kit requires a minimum of 19" wheels to install, so the factory wheels you mentioned above should fit w/o any problem.

I have the loudest brakes in the world. Please help

Yes Sir, everything except CamaroSS comes with emergency drum brake mechanism while Telsa although adopted the same rear rotor (come with brake drum), but replace the drum brake to EM parking brake.

I have the loudest brakes in the world. Please help

Telsa has the same brake set up (rotor, caliper, and pad) as CamaroSS Gen 5. So it would be a good idea to learn from those owners when they sought for their aftermarket brake replacement (including brake pads) back in 2009 (7 years ago) Official 2010 Camaro SS Front Two-Piece Rotor Sign Up...

    Brake Upgrade

Same brake hydraulic circuit but one operates "manually" to mechanically expand the drum brake shoe, the other (Tesla) relies push button to activate the auxiliary brakes which is not possible to operate if a car is disabled.
  26. W

    Brake Upgrade

It all about the cost. Rear emergency drum brake is manually operated (by hand or foot) which is "independent" from hydraulic brake system which allows you to stop the car under emergency* when if your brake system ever failed. However electro-mechianically rear brake still rely on the...

    Brake Upgrade

Tesla copies brake set up from CamaroSS 5, the only difference is Tesla cheap out so the rear rotor doesn't come with drum brake like Camaro5 but add an auxiliary parking brake instead. So I would suggest searching on Camaro5 forum, or goggle "two piece rotors" or "brake pads" for CamaroSS" for...

    Brake Upgrade

More precisely it's a combination of (rotor + pad) Friction is generated between two objects. In the car brake the pad is stationary while the rotor is moving (revolving), so the rotor is truly more important than the pad in terms of metallurgy and how they are machined, only a good...

    Brake Upgrade

Lighter rotors reduce the unsprung weight of your vehicle which will in turn make your car more responsive to acceleration and deceleration, save wear and tear to suspension parts, and improve the overall driving quality. New CCM rotors are no longer being affected by the cold temperature.

    Brake Upgrade

For weight saving, such as two piece rotors or carbon ceramic rotors, and for performance improvement with better modulation and stopping power, or low dust.

I wonder if any Tesla owners have upgraded or consider upgrading their brakes.

    Rear Spindle Knuckle

Does anyone know if the rear spindle has been changed (different offset?) around end of 2014 when the rear emergency brake was changed from the hand operated cable to electrical mechanical one. Your input is appreciated. Thanks
