Plaid 21” rear tire woes - factory defect?

Not for my P85D. Alignment setting: rear toe-in of +0.15 saved the tires. i have a Plaid now but my son’s driving the P85D with more than 32k miles on the Michelin PSS tires. Even wear, around 3/32” tread remaining. No delamination like I have on the Plaid (PS4S).. Replacing the tires soon.

P85D LDU failure leak past rotor coolant delete by QCC

Rotor seal leak issue. Can the seal be replaced periodically, say every 20k miles or 2 years, whichever comes first, and Im just throwing in a number, just to ensure prevention of catastrophic LDU leakage?

Plaid 21” rear tire woes - factory defect?

Very much the same here. Ive heard comparisons of recordings and seen actual sound db measurements and it’s about 2-3 db difference. I know that’s a lot for a quiet car. The sound spectrum also changed in that there’s more lower frequencies with the non-acoustic. This will merely be an...

Sorry for the seemingly repeated posts above. I binge read the entire 77 pages today to catch up as Im having the 21” PS4S issue as well. I had the 19” Pirellis for the first 18k miles and no issues and still at 6/32 across evenly. I drive the car like a Prius except for occasional on ramp...

Plaid 21” rear tire woes - factory defect?

It might be that your Plaid was in perfect alignment when you bought it in April, but the weight of the car stressing the suspension bushings caused the alignment to shift after a few months. Now that the car has settled a bit is a great time for that re-alignment. This is just a theory.

Ive used these settings on a P85D with the + suspension, all oem. Ive got30k miles on Michelin PSS of even wear and still counting. My son drives it now. Recommended alignment settings for P85D: Front: Camber -0.70 Caster 3.55 Toe -0.04 Rear: Camber (fixed) Toe 0.15

Plaid 21” rear tire woes - factory defect?

Yes. The Raven has on average a nudge faster 0-60 ft time slips than the Plaid. Check out Tesla Plaid Channel when the Plaid was first launched on the drag strip the night of delivery day. You have to go back two years.

Plaid 21” rear tire woes - factory defect?

I had a P85D which my son drives now with 30k miles and a little bit more to go on its Michelin 21” PSS, and had great success from using another owner’s specs: Lolachampcar’s recommended alignment settings for P85D: Front: Camber -0.70 Caster 3.55 Toe -0.04 Rear: Camber (fixed) Toe 0.15

I had a Dec.2014 P85D that I handed down to my son. It currently has 30k miles on it’s Michelin Pilot Super Sports tires with even tread wear on stock suspension. For those with pre-refresh Model S (2021+), here’s the alignment specs that I used from a poster at the then factory Tesla owners...

Plaid 21” rear tire woes - factory defect?

Andrew from the Tesla Plaid Channel still runs on original 19” Pirellis even though he has had at least 800 launches on the dragstrips since delivery day. The car’s front brakes were replaced at 10k miles because of constant hard braking from 155 mph at the end of quarter mile. He’s on...

Plaid 21” rear tire woes - factory defect?

Two things. a). The factory rear toe is adjustable. b). Tesla Fremont SC adjusts rear toe to slightly positive (front of wheel direction facing towards vehicle centerline. Result. No tire wear so far as reported by owner who posted this here...

Plaid 21” rear tire woes - factory defect?

Agree the positive toe is also a major cause of the problem. It’s like dragging the corner of the inner tread across the pavement with positive toe. Worse so under acceleration. There should be slight negative toe-in as it is natural tendency to open out towards positive as car moves forward...

Plaid 21” rear tire woes - factory defect?

Thanks for sharing your alignment specs. I think the toe adjustment plays a very crucial role especially when camber is at negative. The toe out for most of the cars here are causing the tire to drag sideways more causing the dreaded wear/delamination. Your slight toe in suggests the best...

We should create a list of notorious SCs and a list of friendly SCs. Hopefully, when service volumes drop, these SCs will either be forced to close or have some personnel turnover And the good SCs with great service be rewarded. Disappointed with Tesla Service regarding Rear cellphone wireless charger, Yoke turn signal issues on Model S Plaid

Brought the car in today for service in Lake Forest, CA. The car’s rear seat wireless charger intermittently charges the phone: ie., you need to reposition the cellphone in order to begin charging. I have an iphone 14 pro. No issues when being charged on the front seat wireless charger. Less...

My ‘21 Plaid has bad rear seat wireless phone chargers as well. If you set the phone down facing you so you can still glance to read on your phone, it will not accept a charge. Show of hands… Adaptive Suspension

Black and white difference for me. I have a ‘21 Plaid with stock Pirelli 19s. I can’t stand the bouncing and floatiness of the Comfort setting when driving 70mph on the not-so-perfect 5 fwy in OC. Switching to Sport firms the ride up like a whole new world. Not stiff, just taut and compliant...

test drove 2021 model s plaid (comparison to modded model 3 performance)

Plaid is definitely floaty when suspension is set at Comfort especially at freeway speeds. Setting it to Sport firms it up noticeably and actually more comfortable to occupants (at freeway speeds).

2022 Model X (5 Seater) - Steering Wheel Issue - Turning signal sometimes doesn't work

Across the USA for battery upgrade

Scheduled charging not working for me :(

I really think there's a firmware bug. Not a rocket science to choose "Scheduled Charging" and specify the start time as "12:30am". BUT, the system would revert back to "Scheduled Departure" charging. I'm retired and have been doing "Scheduled Charging" the last 4 years with no problem. The...

So far so good MCU2 upgrade

I did the upgrade to MCU2 last week, it's a P85D AP1, for $1,500. When I got the car back, I thought they made a mistake or they installed a bad refurbished part. The screen glass was horrible, it's got full of marks, scratches and bubbles. Mine originally was mint. After I scheduled another...

    Porsche Taycan vs Model S

Until I see the production model, I'm not fully convinced. I still remember when Porsche promised 250kW charging at the model intro. Now, I'm hearing 150kW. Motor Trend said recently, "We have yet to test the new all-electric Porsche Taycan in any form, but it's pretty safe bet the EV sport...

    Performance of 2016 90D verses P85D verses P90D

Huge performance difference between a P and non-P. I have a P85D. The extra 1 second shaved off 0-60 from a 90D on a P85D is head spinning. I always leave my car in Sport mode because it's more than enough in 99% of my daily "driving fix". Insane mode on rare special occasions only. I tried...

How many pre-facelift owners here are on their original Drive Unit?

Dec. 2014 build P85D with 43k miles. Original DUs. I appreciate this inquiry because from what I've seen in the news and YouTube, there was a resonating conclusion from auto "gurus" saying that the pre-2016 cars were plagued with drive unit failure disaster.

    Decreasing P85D range

Let's revive this thread as the cars get older. My P85D December 2014 production date with 43k miles now, at 100% charge (rated/ideal) shows 246/318. At 90%, it's 221/285 miles. After almost 5 years, battery degradation rate is 2.77% (based on 253 EPA brand new).

Warning, rebooting v10 on MCU1 while driving

Oh well, Lutz said years ago he was "consistent" about Tesla...it will be doomed. Genius, overpaid former GM exec with 40 years plus auto industry experience had prophesied. Legend status is over-rated now. I remember watching these clips years ago and thought what a condescending individual...

License Suspended while sleep on Autopilot?

Resting your left hand at 7 o'clock position gives the right amount of resistance (or slight turning motion on the steering wheel to mimic the physics of someone holding on to the steering wheel) in order to silence the nags for hours. I do it every time but of course my I'm paying attention on...
