Real World Range on 4680 Battery?

EPA numbers include charging losses. 292/330=0.884 charging efficiency, which sounds about right.

thoughts on Pirelli P Zero All Season Plus Elect for Model 3?

I believe so. I switched from MXM4 to DWS06 many years ago and regen felt stronger immediately after the switch. I suspect the car limits regen based on tire slip.

MASTER THREAD: Powering house or other things with Model 3

Smaller inverters don't pull enough current to trip the overcurrent detection mechanism. I put together a pre-charge circuit, then realized that I was able to directly connect a BESTEK 500W pure sine inverter to my '18 Model 3 using the included clamps, without doing anything special. Obviously...

    SR+ LFP Battery Design

LFP is generally regarded as being much safer than NMC. There are a few YT videos showing tests in which LFP cells are punctured and do not catch fire. LFPs are also commonly used to build DIY "Powerwall" systems by people who live off-grid or in RVs. If you look through the "DIY Solar Power...

    Aftermarket Wheels on Model 3

I can’t speak for the plus, but I’ve been using the original version for the last 9000 miles. The tire is noticeably louder at all speeds and has a low frequency rumble. The noise level is the main thing I don’t like about the tire. Energy consumption has gone up about 5% and the handling is...

    Prices are slowly going up?

Small price adjustments happen all the time at traditional automakers, but they're just not as visible because they're shrouded behind the secrecy of a dealership. I'm amused when short sellers think the sky is falling at Tesla whenever they lower prices, when they wouldn't blink an eye at...

    Cadillac SuperCruise better than Tesla?

In my opinion, this is the most important part of the article. "An LED embedded in the top of the steering wheel switches from green to red when the driver needs to take over immediately. That happens most frequently when the car hits a stretch of road that’s missing from or — doesn’t match —...

2018 Model 3 RED LR RWD EAP low miles

Unless you've been abusing the battery or are extremely unlucky, the 295 mile 100% range makes me think that the battery is out of balance and/or the BMS calibration is off. If you have time before this sells, I suggest looking through one of the battery threads for advice. Otherwise, it looks...

Tesla Model 3 vs. Honda Accord Hybrid

I've had my Model 3 for nearly 3 years. As long as you disable all standby features such as cabin overheat protection, sentry mode, and summon standby, idle losses should be less than 1 mile a day. There are times when the car will remain awake to perform specific tasks. After you leave the car...

    Aftermarket Wheels on Model 3

Copying my response to your post in the other thread here, since this thread seems to be more active.... I've been running DWS06 for the last 8k miles. Michelin Primacy 18" tires shot @ less than 10K miles.

I've been running DWS06 for the last 8k miles. They are noticeably noisier than the OEM MXM4s at all speeds (low to mid freq. rumble) and the ride is a bit less smooth. Steering response is much better and even observable in a slow lane change. Energy consumption has been about 5% worse. Check...

    Need help from Tire Experts

I see that you've already selected a tire, but for anyone else who's interested, don't choose DWS06 if you care about a quiet ride. I went from MXM4 to DWS06 8k miles ago on my Model 3. DWS06 handling is superb (although anything is probably superb compared to the MXM4), but it is noisy! It has...

    Ford Mach-e

A few of these advantages only appear to be an advantage if you've never driven a Tesla and look at reviews created by people who don't drive a Tesla as their daily car. New tires killed my range (20-30% decrease)

I'm surprised that you're getting that much worse efficiency with those tires. I went from MXM4s (22k miles driven) to Continental DWS06 (6k miles driven, very noisy) and consumption went from 233Wh/mi. to 243Wh/mi.

The Electricity Was Out Last Night....

It's not a good idea to connect an inverter directly to the 12v battery. The battery charger has less capacity than the 12v socket in the center console, so you can easily drain and kill the battery if you're not paying attention. Instead, you need to tap the 12v supply for the entire car in the...

Reserved Model 3 LR. Talk me out of upgrading to a M3P!

It's a decision that depends on your financial situation. If you can pay cash for the M3P without breaking a sweat (not saying you should, given the low interest rates), then you can truly afford it. In that case, go for it! Otherwise you should probably get the SR+, unless you need the range...

    A better route planner? Really?

The most likely cause is elevation gain. If you click on a point on the route, it'll show the elevation and the instantaneous power use at that point. Or it could be a plethora of other factors, like the previous post mentioned.

Thoughts on buying Used M3 LR RWD vs. New SR+?

For 0-60, SR+ is 5.3s and LR RWD is 5.0s after the 2019 power boost update. Which one to choose depends on the details of how/when/where you travel. For example, how busy are Superchargers where you want to go, especially during the holidays? Here in CA, the 5 minute Supercharger overhead...

Maximum charge level for daily use

90% according to the manual and also if you're interested in keeping the battery bricks balanced: What's the power consumption of the UMC not charging?. Chill Mode

The 3/Y accelerator pedal is easy to modulate, much more so than the S. I don't think you'll have a problem adjusting to the acceleration after a week or two. I own a last gen Outback 2.5 and a 3 LR RWD. The 3 is much easier to drive, because the accelerator pedal and steering are much more...

    Full Charge Range

The battery has to be charged to roughly >90% for balancing to happen. Balancing is a very slow process that uses bleed resistors to equalize the voltage. Aftermarket Wheels on Model 3

Wow, that's a huge reduction in efficiency! After about 4000 miles on DWS06, my Wh/mi went from 233 on MXM4s to ~241, which I'm pretty happy about. I'm also satisfied with the improvement in handling, cornering, and braking performance. They're louder than the MXM4s though, which I'm not happy...

    Speedometer Accuracy?

My speedometer is high by about 3% (reads 72mph at 70mph, 36mph at 35mph). The car's currently riding on new-ish OEM sized 18" Conti DWS06. I haven't yet calculated how much error tread depth introduces, to see if it could account for the error.

Anyone buying Tesla Model Y in cash?

In case you were serious, I imagine many people who paid cash for their Teslas lived frugally while they patiently invested in their businesses or themselves (through education) when they were young. They put off having fancy things until a Tesla became a small fraction of their annual cash flow.

A small difference in road noise may very well be due to the tires. From SilverSmith's photos, it looks like PYD uses Pirelli P Zeros, which are quiet tires. The Michelin PS4S that comes on P3D are a bit louder according to Consumer Reports, although they're still better than average.

    What is your real range?

On a trip between San Diego and LA with a few stop at the destination, I typically get 80-85% of the rated range of 325 miles for the LR RWD. I used to be between 85-90% of the rated range when the car was newer and before I swapped out the MXM4s for UHP A/S tires.

LR RWD 19" All Season Tire - With Matched or Improved Efficiency

If efficiency is paramount, then the Pirelli Cinturato P7 A/S Plus (original or II) is probably the frequently mentioned tire I've seen mentioned in various threads. Just know that the wet traction and stopping distance are awful in Tirerack tests of the original version (II isn't tested yet).

Time for new tires on my dual motor

I've been running DWS 06 on my 18" aeros for the last 4 months and 2.5k miles. The handling is noticeably better than the MXM4s, even in a low speed maneuver like a lane change. Efficiency didn't go down as much as I'd feared it would. I'm getting 243Wh/mi. now vs. 233Wh/mi. on the MXM4s over...

Anyone use the Tesla recommended tire chains on a RWD Model 3?

I bought Peerless Auto-Trac chains and used them once on the roads to Big Bear in Southern CA. They worked fine, although they did scratch my 18" wheels. I wonder if the recommended ones would; based on the pictures posted on the Tesla store, I'm guessing they also would.

Cost to add autopilot to SR?

My car has 24k miles and I drive nearly all of my freeway miles on AP. I find freeway driving to be much more stressful without AP. Efficient all-season road-tripping tire with some snow grip

I'm going to guess that the A/S 3+, DWS 06, and CrossClimates all have the same ballpark efficiency, with the A/S 3+ being very slightly worse than the other two based on what I've read on various forums. I've been running DWS 06 on 18" aeros for the last 2k miles and I'm getting 243 Wh/mi in...

Quite disappointment with my new Model 3's range. Should I be?

Since you picked up in Dec., I'm guessing it's in the high-40s when you're commuting. Do you have heat set to 70F or so? If so, that's probably consuming about 30-40 Wh/mi. on average. It's in the 50s during my commute and my efficiency (LR RWD) goes from about 215 Wh/mi. in summer to 245 Wh/mi...

Not everyone is eligible for the tire mileage warranty from Michelin. Sometime in, if I recall correctly, early 2019, Michelin changed their warranty policy to exclude OEM tires, so if you purchased after the change happened, then you wouldn't be eligible. There's a thread somewhere on this...

Subaru's eyesight seems to work better than Tesla's AP

2016 was the first year with LKA. I’m sure Subaru has been improving the EyeSight firmware, because the ECU reflash my Outback got (in I think 2017) definitely improved the system vs. what came with the car. I just wish it could have continued to get updates. Lack of software updates is one...
