MAR2023: My Experience Driving 1,367mi Down Into California and Back

I've done this (last time was my last trip before lockdown in 2020, as part of a trip from San Jose to Phoenix and back). I would say to trust your in-car navigation. It knows your status, and knows where the Superchargers are. I prefer 101 as a road in general, but 5 is quicker and has a nice...

MAR2023: My Experience Driving 1,367mi Down Into California and Back

I was quite happy with the San Jose to Boise (and back) I did in my X (75D, est 210mi to a full charge) back in May 2017. Sure, it took longer than my parents who did it in their ICE minivan (we went around through twin falls, because that was what was available on the supercharger network). Of...

    USB needs more options!

    7. Figure out a way to tell if the drive has been updated and not scan the drive (nearly) every time the car is turned on. 8. Better error recovery (if read error, go to next track).

    Winnemuca NV to Boise ID?

I did it last year in my 75, but I went through Twin Falls - which, outside of the charging, puts added time on the trip (7:47 total trip). I see there's a charger at the Say When Casino in McDermitt - and that will only 2 hours onto your trip (4:20 total trip). So the long way around has 2...

    Where are all the Teslas?

Here's just an average day of driving around the Silicon Valley in my blue Model X, being followed by a blue Model S and a blue Model ☰. We'd be joined by a black Model X in a mile or so. You really can't swing a cat around here without hitting a Tesla. In fact, my parents have taken to doing...

    Tesla moments

Yesterday, on our way back home from the pictures, we got in a 3-way formation on an offramp of all blue Teslas. A brand new S (no plates yet) a slightly less new ☰ (with plates), and my rather dirty late summer 2016 X (not visible in it's own rear view camera). Ultimately, this is an "Only in...

Reno, NV to Rocklin, CA. 4602.9 ft drop in elevation, averaging 62 mph. 105.7 miles, 20.51 kWh of driving = 194.1 Wh/mile. (214.38 Wh/mile for all electricity used from charge to charge).

Buggy speed sign detection in AP

I have AP1, and part of my commute is getting on to a 40mph road, but it doesn't adjust the icon until I've passed the first limit sign, so I assume it is reading the sign and not relying on GPS data.

    Remotely Updating Software

If you have Homelink set up, you can open the door from the Tesla app. Look under "Summon" and then in the upper right corner you should see the Homelink logo (I think it only appears if the car is within the "geofence" of your Homelink profile).

Etiquette Question: When is a Super Charger not a Super Charger?

All the trip planners that I consulted took me that way - probably because that was the only Super Charger route. Based on my data, I'd get about 200 miles on a full 75kWh charge, so the leg between McDermitt and Boise might be a bit nail bitting. Also, the longer charging time on the...

Etiquette Question: When is a Super Charger not a Super Charger?

It's not disliking Super Chargers at hotels (it just confuses matters when a destination has Super Chargers, and no Destination Chargers). It's really a matter of time, and safety (i.e.: Being fully rested.) This particular trip (Bay Area to Boise) the second leg was a long one. Between the...

Etiquette Question: When is a Super Charger not a Super Charger?

Well this was our first trip with overnights in multiple locations (our first one was an overnight 140 miles away, so a single supercharger stop was all we needed, as the destination had a 110v available if we needed it.) So I'd never encountered what hotels have, or don't have, in terms of...

Etiquette Question: When is a Super Charger not a Super Charger?

I will state that a red S came through a couple times during our stay, and a silver/grey S (with stickers on it) was there the morning we left - and we saw that one again in Twin Falls (where we were almost ICEd out by a bus parking across the spaces!) It was a holiday weekend, so I guess that a...

Need help planning for a trip

Do you also have the sunshade? If so, put it up in the top half of the window. This helped me to not need as much AC on my trip across northern Nevada last month (luckily, we were only in the 80s).
  35. dprisoner

Etiquette Question: When is a Super Charger not a Super Charger?

No, I'd choose my hotel based on charging amenities. Hotels that have a Super Charger were ideal, because I wouldn't have to worry about whether the connector was compatible with my car. On our return through Reno we stayed at another hotel (because the Atlantis was booked the Sunday night of...

Etiquette Question: When is a Super Charger not a Super Charger?

Well, maybe we should lobby Tesla to install a couple of Destination Chargers when they install Super Chargers at actual destinations. I'm not complaining about having to stop along the way to charge, but to delay getting to sleep and then having to wake up an hour earlier to finish charging...

Etiquette Question: When is a Super Charger not a Super Charger?

The problem is that I'm going to charge up to 100% for the next day, and having rolled in at 11pm I am not going to be in a good mood when at 12:30/1am it tells me to get my sorry ass out of bed to go move my car. So, the bigger question this scenario raises is why is Tesla installing Super...

Etiquette Question: When is a Super Charger not a Super Charger?

In another thread some one stated that - per etiquette - you should not leave your car taking up a spot on a Super Charger overnight, but you can do so at a destination charger. What if your destination charger is a Super Charger? I recently did a trip from the Bay Area to Boise, and two of my...

    AP2.0 anomaly

I had it happen with AP1 on 280 near the new Apple spaceship (so, in Tesla's back yard). They had been doing work there and had re-aligned the lanes to accommodate. AP1 worked fine there. Summon usefulness-less

I quite often use Summon to get the car out of the garage. I use the time it's backing out to put away the charger cable. Which does make me wonder why they bothered with the Summon w/ Homelink pairing. If you're a good little Tesla owner, your car is hooked up to the charger - so you can't...
