PSA about why you should NOT use auto lift trunk struts

Wow... shudder... I searched because my rear M3 struts are getting a little weak and I bopped my head on it today at the supermarket. Did some searching, and saw the red spring struts for not a lot of money and wondered how well they worked. Well, I'll be ordering genuine struts from Tesla...

    Power Conversion System (PCS) failure

I was 8 days past warranty, and only 18k miles. A very young and pampered Model3, I kid you not. They also goodwilled only part of it, I am out $1200 as well.

    Power Conversion System (PCS) failure

I just joined the failed PCS club :( Stuck at 16A, which is 12 miles per hour charging. Since the virus, I've been charging at 120V, been working out for me. So I never noticed deteriorating PCS. Not sure when it failed. Before the virus, charging seemed fine using Tesla destination...

    Vampire battery drain test

Interesting... it did work on my model 3 for about a month or so. Am I the only one here where the anti-AC-stink no longer works?

Unplug 14-50 Adapter or leave it plugged in all the time?

This. Airports presumably use high quality outlets, and deal with constant plugging and unplugging. Most barely make good contact. It's an exaggeration of what would happen in a home, but it shows outlet can wear out.

    Vampire battery drain test

Or even the opposite of that- can the car run the hvac fan for a few minutes to dry out the vents? This combats the well known problem of stinky A/C. In some (many?) climates, the a/c will get a bad case of musky damp smell if you don't dry out the evaporator by running air with a/c off...

Cabin Filter Replacement with Breathe Easy Filters | AC Smell

Could crack a window for the extension cord, then seal the crack with some blue painter's tape. Btw, apparently these ozone generators can't be shipped to California.

Free Destination Charging: 50x L2 80A Stations @ Caltech, Pasadena, CA

It only seems under utilized because these pictures are from off hours. Electric vehicles, especially Tesla, are popular in California. Even more so for the Caltech community. You won't have to wait. These chargers are fully utilized, at least during the day at the first lot. All manner of...

Quite disappointment with my new Model 3's range. Should I be?

If your tesla is garage, you might want to plug it in everyday, like a cellphone. That's not how people run gas cars, but electric is different. And it is easy to top off the charge.

What to do?!?!? 2013 Model S 60 Battery fail

I know this is an old-ish post, but I just want to understand :) so are you saying pay cash for the car, instead of financing it (at a low rate) and taking the same amount of cash and investing it? Depreciation affects both scenarios, so no difference there.

MASTER THREAD: 2019.36.2.1 - new HOLD mode and other features

So is "before peak energy rates begin" lumped together with Scheduled Departure? Hard to imagine many people coincidentally want to leave the house just as high electric rates begin. Apples and oranges, imo. They are separate things, and should not be lumped together. So if cheap overnight...

MASTER THREAD: 2019.36.1 update released with 5% power increase

Did she give regular mode a try for a week or two? Better to cut off the dino car holdovers sooner than later :)

    Model 3 LR tire rotation?

Which Costco? At Costco locations in Los Angeles, they (politely) refuse to work on tires not purchased there. They say it is from higher ups, not sure what level, perhaps regional. This policy kicked in maybe 8 years ago? The local Costco tire guys acknowledged that it places new car...

Reducing noise and keeping the door sills clean

I took French in high school, so I was amused at Audi's branding prowess. It was widely talked about a few years ago, but just in case someone hasn't heard yet: étron translation, according to Google Translate...

Tesla wont cover rattles or any noise related defects after 15k miles?

So..... has anyone downloaded the warranty statement from last year before the "new" exclusions were sneaked in?

"Group buy opportunity" for reasonably priced Mud Flaps (Model 3)

Just to clarify, what did you pay for similar looking ones?

    NEMA "15-40"?

He fessed up in the comments that he is not an electrician, and is not surprised that he flubbed it. Unfortunately, he mis-speaks it maaaany times in the video. I hope new people won't get the wrong number in their heads after watching this video.

2019.5.4 bug - unable to use touchscreen when charging

Yep, I reset a couple of times. No difference. I haven't charged out in the wild since then, but next week I probably will.

2019.5.4 bug - unable to use touchscreen when charging

My 3 updated to 5.4 the other day. The immediate bug I noticed was the inability to use the touchscreen when charging. When charging, you get the charge screen where it has the time, etc in large font. In the past, if you simply touch the touchscreen, it goes back to regular mode. You can...

    Touchscreen replacement instructions / DIY?

I know this is an old-ish thread, but did the ribbon have a terminator on the MCU side? Or was it soldered on, or inaccessible/etc. I once messed up a ribbon cable socket on a Honda Navigation. No cat, just me misreading how the latches worked on that particular oddball ribbon socket.

Free Destination Charging: 50x L2 80A Stations @ Caltech, Pasadena, CA

I've been a fan of the original Caltech Rpi powered L2 chargers. I would get 48A, yielding 41 mph. I haven't had to visit campus in awhile, but this morning I did. But I couldn't get any charge from the raspberry pi chargers. My Model 3 would error out with "no power at wall". The display...

Blog Which Model 3 Color Will You Choose?

It might very well be regional, like how the Sun states don't really care about AWD/4WD but the Snow states like it. I just rented a black car for a week, and it is noticeably hotter when driving it around. Also annoying to park the smoldering charcoal briquette in the garage each day.
