FSD refund? Anyone taken tesla to the dispute tribunal over this?

What car would you replace your Model 3 with Rob? You’ve always been a staunch supporter on Stuff etc. I have the new Highland AWD and it’s very good. Other options are still weak IMO - Ioniq5 is fat & dull, Ioniq6 is butt ugly, i4 is crazy expensive, BYD Seal seems to have mixed reviews…

Tesla Model Y - Whilsting Noise Unresolved - Regret ever buying the car

Hi there, I had a temporary whistle on my 2019 Model 3 and it turned out to be the driver’s wing mirror. It must have got hit and the plastic casing had separated from the base somehow. I squeezed it fairly hard together, it went click - no more whistle!

Electric vehicle rebate and 'ute tax' killed off in December 2023

Except if you’re a landlord, then you get special welfare treatment because - you know - they’re an endangered class of people or something.

Electric vehicle rebate and 'ute tax' killed off in December 2023

Explain why my EV should pay x2 the amount of a petrol Camry Hybrid, when my EV is lighter. We’ve gone from using no RUC for EVs as an incentive, to paying twice the logical amount just because the Transport Minister can’t be bothered thinking about it. NZ now stands out as one of the very few...

Electric vehicle rebate and 'ute tax' killed off in December 2023

Fabulous chart mate. Very compelling. I’ve said it before but it bears saying again - the move to RUC for EVs and petrol cars is ad hoc and foolish policy. RUCs are an inefficient method of taxation especially for EVs. The tax was intended to recover the cost of heavy diesel trucks damaging...

Electric vehicle rebate and 'ute tax' killed off in December 2023

The current lot are not interested in solutions - they just want to smash anything the previous lot did. It’s not good government and it’s not good leadership. The first policy to go should be the FBT exemption on utes. It’s fundamentally flawed and encourages businesses to lease more utes...

    Model 3 Highland test drive

Hi all, I test drove the AWD LR Model 3 Highland yesterday. Coming from a 2019 SR+ the new vehicle was certainly quieter and more refined. It’s not a radical redesign but it certainly elevates the quality of the vehicle, likely to compete with BYD and VW etc. The absence of stalks was a bit...

How many Tesla's in New Zealand

Hmmm, those numbers are down quite a bit on 2022, which is odd considering the Clean Car Discount was in place all thru 2023. Competition from MG & BYD?

    Energy Sector News

That first article about exceptions to reporting under the Clean Air Act beggars belief. Local government can say the air is cleaner than it actually is, because “someone else’s” forest fire dirtied the air in their district? What is the point of air quality monitoring if you then change the...

Electric vehicle rebate and 'ute tax' killed off in December 2023

I think it’s a disastrous policy decision to scrap it. Policies like this need to be in place for 5-10 years to be effective. The key benefit was to grow the used EV market so folks could pickup decent EVs for $20k-40k with 300km+ range. With transport being our second largest source of...

Britomart car park Auckland Destination chargers

Too true - a mixed blessing of the normalisation of EVs. I do miss the “Tesla wave” from other drivers. It was a kinder, gentler time I guess.

Has anyone noticed their ultrasonic circles have disappeared from the animated onscreen display? 2019 SR+ here.

NZ Superchargers opening up to other EVs

Oh, this will cause chaos in the always-popular Taupo supercharger, once that site is opened up to all others… I still resent this change actually. Too bad if you bought a EV6 or an i4 - go fast charge some place else at 50kW. Tesla paid for its charging network from Tesla car buyers!

The worst of all worlds - Police to use BMW i4s

According to Stuff the BMW i4 is under consideration for use as a patrol car - Fully electric BMW i4 joins NZ Police fleet as part of $1.7m trial This is the worst of all worlds - excessive purchase cost, bad PR for EVs, and marginal operational performance. The 80.7kWh battery supposedly takes...

Why does Tesla vehicles have so many issues?

People who take the time to post have issues with their cars. It’s self-selection and not an accurate sample size. Issues also went in phases over the years since 2012 - paint, panel alignment, motor noise, rattles - but have generally been addressed by Tesla. What you are reading about here...

    Supercharger - Cambridge, NZ

They clearly need to ban those petrol stations in Cambridge - damn pesky motorists wanting fuel!

    Supercharger - Cambridge, NZ

It’s the Community Board not the Council, and it can be ignored if the Council is feeling vaguely courageous. I doubt the Board really understands much more than “Musk bad”, “Tesla for rich people” which is weird because Cambridge is oozing with wealth. Maybe they are worried their etron or EQS...

Model X fire on Harbour Bridge

No doubt this story will get the haters fired up (no pun intended) - 'Huge plumes' of smoke billowing as Tesla burns on Auckland Harbour Bridge Judging by the burn marks in the picture the traction battery was not the cause - it is too far forward. Should be LFP battery so arguably much less...

NZ car of the year voting lines open (win $5000 charge)

Which is an interesting outcome, given a couple of colleagues have the RAV4 hybrid and it gets much worse fuel economy than a diesel. Why some folks would wait until 2024 to receive a vehicle with 1995-era hybrid technology is simply baffling. It’s also mind boggling that Ford Ranger can get...

Potential upcoming clean car discount changes

The Clean Car Discount is an excellent policy and it needs to be in place for at least 10 years to accelerate decarbonisation of the national fleet. The key is to create an affordable used EV market. Company fleet buyers need to get on board with this too. No doubt the discount will be reduced...

Concerning Build Quality of Tesla Model 3 and Y

I have no particular sympathy for Tesla these days but it could have been damaged at the port/in transit. I agree that the service centre should have prepped all cars carefully, and if necessary delayed this poor chap’s initial vehicle delivery. He in turn should have waited until Jan 2023 for a...

Slow GPS routing and app connection

Recently my GPS routing has been *really* slow. In addition, my phone app often takes several minutes to find my car and update its current status. Unless I have faulty hardware I feel this is software update-related. Any one else observed this recently?

Model Y order page is live

I see they have nerfed the motor so it only does 6.9 seconds. No more “Tesla Smile” for the Made in Shanghai 3/Y owners. I resent having to buy from Shanghai - no more high density batteries and no more quick acceleration.

    New Zealand Road Trips

Epic fail today - feeling quite disillusioned. Hamilton to Taupo in 10-15 deg with some rain, demister on for some of the trip, average speed about 90kmh. The range estimator said 25% remaining (from 80% SOC). We arrived with 15%. I’ve never known it to be soooo wrong before at such slow...

    Supercharger - Tauranga

The Taupo, Hamilton and Palmerston North superchargers are pretty key but I agree the others, in particular the SI sites are not any more useful than ChargeNet.
  26. L

    Supercharging too expensive

In 2019, supercharging at Taupo etc used to cost around 30c/kWh. Now I see at some sites it is 81c/kWh, up from 52c/kWh just a few months ago. I acknowledge fast charging is for road trips, but these rates are not at all competitive with petrol given we have to ‘fill up’ 1.5-2x more often on a...

Tesla Software Updates for Model 3 New Zealand

TBH it sounds like I will be avoiding downloading this one for as long as possible. Not all the updates are “improvements”. Honestly - that gaming mode while driving thing was obviously retarded and just caused Tesla embarrassment.

    NZ Car of the Year…lol

Massive shadenfreud at Driven.co.nz. I love these quotes - “we decided to make it 11 and include the Tesla Model 3, as recognition of the growing important of EVs in the NZ market in 2021”. Translation - it wasn’t German enough for us to nominate it but then tens of thousands of people said...

    NZ Car of the Year…lol

So once again the paid shills at Driven have chosen 10 cars to be nominated for Car of the Year. Amazingly 9 of them are EVs but conspicuous by its absence is the Model 3. As usual, they fawned all over the Audi and the EQC and even the lame Mazda MX30….but no mention of the EV that is...

How many Tesla's in New Zealand

Model 3 should absolutely be #1 - it’s the best value EV you can buy right now after the feebate. The MG is also well-priced. I said to our fleet manager that he should stop buying Konas and Ioniqs because they are now relatively more expensive. His response - no, Tesla is a “luxury car” so we...

    New buyer questions

The NZD is also highly volatile so I suspect Tesla has a nice big healthy hedge of say 0.62 USD to the NZD, even though the real FX rate is better than that right now.

    Thoughts On e-tron GT Family

I quite like the Taycan but isn’t there a question of value for money here? One of them *might* get 300 miles but costs more than twice as much. The other *will* get 340 miles but costs half as much. Ultimately with the Taycan you’re buying a badge, fancy stitching and a bunch of bling. Not...

Giga Shanghai will ship MIC M3 to Australia, New Zealand & Japan

Major mistake. There’s no way I’d buy the MIC version - LFP batteries are an inferior solution that simply allows Tesla to get more cars out the door and pocket a higher gross margin at our expense. It’s not a Tesla unless it uses cells from GF1.

No audio bug in Model 3

Yes I’ve had this happen to me more recently. The hands-free is really rubbish at the moment with no audio when it connects. Then the entire sound system vanishes - no indicator sounds nothing. Tesla really needs to fix this as its hugely frustrating to have to hang up on calls and frankly...

    Tyre repair

Wow you guys are really fortunate and/or I’m an idiot. I had a bolt in my front right tyre that hissed when I pulled on it with pliers. I took it to a name tyre shop and they initially said they couldn’t repair it because it was an acoustic foam tyre with “TO” on it (Tesla Original?). It then...

All I want for Christmas is .....

Yes I saw a similar but different transporter on Khyber Pass this afternoon with 4 Model 3s on it. There’s also a new midnight silver performance with turbine wheels that I’ve seen a few times on the road now - the (much) faster version of my SR+

    New buyer questions

The lucky folks that bought a Model 3 in 2019 received the Tesla wall charger for free. I heard you no longer get this for free? To be honest you don’t need it - I’m on a standard 3 pin plug with the larger earth pin (12 amps?) and the charging speed is fine. It will refill your SR+ from 50-100%...

How many Tesla's in New Zealand

Interesting how in the Herald now every article about EVs has become free advertising for the Audi etron. Pretty irritating when it’s one of the weakest value for money buys.

    Electric Vehicle Jobs

I don’t disagree but people don’t instantly adapt. I suggest there is a generational/20 year period where people and their communities retrain and reorient their local economies to new job types. In the meantime you have unemployment, rust belts and political turmoil...seems familiar.

Why is Audi E-Tron selling so well in Norway?

Yawn already, no one cares about a silly boat of an EV with 4 rings bought by people who want snob-appeal. By your logic here the EQC is the best car ever in the history of everything (up 19000%), and is a far better vehicle than the lame etron, with Model 3 clearly struggling with supply. Even...

    Anyone tried the ChargeNet hypercharger?

I asked the person in the desk about the lack of drinks in the fridge. Apparently our Kiwi colleagues are letting us down. Tesla have removed the free stuff because people would come into the lounge, take all the drinks, leave all their trash behind and then bail. Poor form.

    Anyone tried the ChargeNet hypercharger?

What are the access issues at the Auckland supercharger? The code access? The waiting room?
  45. L

    Anyone tried the ChargeNet hypercharger?

I see this has opened in the Bombay hills area - presumably near that Waitomo or BP service centre? Up to 300kW fast charging although most EVs can barely accept half that at present. It costs $30-$60 to fill up - not really good value for money given relative petrol costs. Kind of a silly...

Audi E-Tron Sportback digital matrix LED light

Agreed, a definite pattern of passive aggressive behaviour. I think he probably can’t cope with the fact that his favourite German car makers just aren’t very good at EVs right now. I actually used to like some of his EV favs but now I’m tired of hearing about them, so great work buddy.

    Nissan Ariya

I like the colour but there’s no way this thing is beautiful. Japanese car designers have lost the plot IMO - too much plastic tat and fluff sprouting off the car, particularly around the wheel arches and the rear. Honda Civic is a good recent example of this along with the god awful plastic...

It also happens when you get signed out of the Tesla app - unknowingly. Has happened to me twice.

    Anyone else got rattles?

To be honest that one is no longer so bad - I think it was the plastic part of the passenger seat belt vibrating against the passenger B pillar. I now have a rattle somewhere near my passenger side tweeter speaker!
