Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Reminds me of when the Model Y heat exchanger was taped up using wood trim. It was obvious that it did not take 150 people to come up with this temporary solution in order to get the cars on the road. Questionable? yes. Effective? yes.

They probably put him there to make up for Test Track. It's a GM sponsored vision--circa 2012--of how they would electrify the entire automotive industry.

It's interesting they make a comparison to Microsoft and Nvidia coming up with their own 16-bit floating point standard in 2002, in order to expand consumer-grade computing possibilities. Tesla doing the same 20 years later, going to ironically primitive 8-bit in order to achieve a mind-boggling...

Many were underweight and had 2 trading sessions to fix it after earnings. I'm sure some still failed to bite the bullet and are stuck buying in at ATH or waiting for a dip. Must be pretty embarrassing at this point, possibly career-ending?

Cannot imply this. There could have been years of sub-1.0 versioning, or they restarted versioning after going vision-only.

A skewed Y/3 demand would be very ideal. It would allow the new factories to scale structural battery manufacturing, and any other novelties, on just the Y, then apply the lessons learned to the 3. Otherwise, you would be ramping new technology on two models simultaneously and have to optimize...

We are all asking, "how long can the bear mental gymnastics be sustained?" I think we are closer to an answer, now that the P/E is dropping like Jeff Bezos from outer space, and the profit is not "dependent" on reg credits—but neither has seemed to make a dent in their firmly cemented antipathy...

Here's some investor discussion for you. The growth story should be shock and awe. The 50% YOY growth target achieves dominance eventually, but most of the growth comes after the mid-2020s. The risk with this is that mid-decade, the EV space will become territorialized by whoever is able to...

Hold the phone, if the flaming Plaid owner was with Susquehanna, I think that warrants an investigation into whether Susquehanna (or this individual) has a greater than normal number of expiring sold options, or is under the water profit-wise.

Interesting that 18% of S/X are leased vs. 7% of 3/Y. I would not expect another refresh any time soon, so perhaps many are planning to switch to Roadster after their lease.

The media is definitely steering clear of this fire story right now. I don't see any headlines on ThinkorSwim. I think the government focus on EVs is deflecting a lot of potential FUD. Sails to the wind.

Arguably, the expectation of Starlink IPO access adds extrinsic value to Tesla shares, like a warrant. I don't know if there is even a legal basis for it, but if it starts looking more likely as time goes on, the "volatility" will go up and add value.

I wish they would expand upon the very short Kato Road music video that was released, perhaps a press tour of the facility or old-style Elon walkthrough like he used to do in the SpaceX factory. With the intense scrutiny of everything Musk does or says, he could immediately focus attention on it...

It seems lost on people that the original promise made at Battery Day was Plaid by end-of-2021. It is now arriving significantly early. (The range may differ from promised, but remains to be seen). The underlying cells do not really matter to fulfilling the product launch.

F-150 Lightning really highlights how batteries are everything now. With a 150+ kWh pack, they are masking the horrendous efficiency in the powertrain and poor drag coefficient. All of Tesla's technological superiority in cells, inverters, motors, control logic, structural pack, etc, seems moot...

The social media backlash against Musk for perceived betrayal (which is inane) should be interpreted psychologically. He is such a beloved father figure and so much hope has been placed in him to 'save the world', or bring wealth and riches, that many childlike minds will readily lash out at him...

Twitter videos of overrun gas stations rolling in. Tomorrow's news, today. Then again, it is merely a matter of schadenfreude to investors, as certainly actual news in support of EVs will have no bearing on the share price.

    Walt Disney World

You are inappropriately generalizing your personal use case, which is a minimalistic version of a Disney trip. Not every day is spent at a park; not every car is 'inactive', not every car starts with a full charge, and it is not always easy to leave and supercharge when getting low. My own...

    Charging with a gas generator?

    Charging with a gas generator?

Agree neither the grid nor gasoline distribution can be relied upon, however, - you can keep 10 gallons of gas in your shed - the grid is susceptible to doomsday scenarios--months-long outages due to solar flare or cascading failure--while with fuel, shortages would not last so long The...

    Charging with a gas generator?

Tesla will need to address the generator issue upon launch of CyTruck in order to win over most pickup owners. The primary concern will not be getting stuck in a remote area, but prolonged electric outages at home. Pickups are often tied to their owner's livelihood or sense of security, so no...

Any Model Y with new projector headlights in the USA?

You are in a tiny minority of the most exacting niche of Tesla buyers.... power to you for waiting, but this will not create any significant amount of demand, especially since adaptive lights are not legal in the US yet; and besides, Musk just stated that they are not demand-limited.

Will Tesla cut prices on its Model Y in 2021 with three more factories open?

Having secured an incredible $12B via equity offerings in 2020 - which was virtually free money in light of the surging valuation - Tesla has $20B cash, enough to cut prices and still finish building the new factories. However, there is no good reason, as demand is strong for 3/Y at the current...

    New Holding Co - X

The idea is terrible because a megacorp with the vague and signally mission of "save humanity" would be extremely prone to mission creep, invasion by academics and powerpointers, wasteful side ventures, excess bureaucracy, etc. Google's "don't be evil" has become a joke for this same reason...

As a thought exercise, if Tesla had structured a market offering in the form of imbalance orders, or some kind of Closing Cross algorithm, they could have filled the 12 million share imbalance and made about $8 billion. This wouldn't be possible at another time, but in this case the imbalance...
