Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I've seen a few new Volvos in Italy too. Good for the mission if it's good, one less ICE SUV sold. But I'd wait a few quarters to see how it plays out in terms of numbers and demand.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Yesterday I was there (in the center), walking on the sidewalk, a blue Model 3 was stuck in traffic. Half a minute later, I turn and a blue Model 3 is parked, and another one was turning right at the end of the road... I thought I was tripping, but there were three of them! Milan is the most...

I'll believe carbon-neutral synthetic fuels when I see them. Not only production, but distribution and actual usage in normal cars. It's a possibility, but it's the carbon-neutral part that's hard. EVs are very simple and very easy to understand: zero emissions, as clean as the electricity...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

It seemed to me that your message meant that Tesla competition in EU is active and alive, and you wrote Their sales are increasing, while Tesla's are decreasing. If you are saying that their ICE sales are increasing, it's right. They are dragging their feet, successfully. But they will have to...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

This is 2023 best selling models in Europe: I've yet to see an updated chart with Q1 numbers, but "increasing vs decreasing" it's not very meaningful without knowing actual numbers. FWIW, Tesla allegedly gained market share in Q124. 2024 it's proving to be tough year, for sure, but for...

Good Elon. “As we reorganize Tesla it has come to my attention that some severance packages are incorrectly low,” Musk said in a short email sent to employees on Wednesday and seen by Bloomberg News. “My apologies for this mistake. It is being corrected immediately.” Source: Musk Apologizes...

I'd love this, but I won't get it :D Here is what Elon needs to deliver, in black and white, on the call next week: Do's: - Outline plan to stabilize gross margin. - Outline the plan to grow demand and vehicle volume in 2025-2026 (2024 already a write-off imo). - Outline long-term product...

Yes. Used ICEs will go one for decades, but government incentives to scrap them will be more and more aggressive (as they have been, for decades, to renew the fleet).

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

This is true, but what about delaying the purchase of a new vehicle after that old first car? You are now saving the tens of thousands of $ of the new car, even for a few years. I think the addressable market of a truly L4-5 system is quite large, even at the beginning. Tesla will never build...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Where I live, family often have 2 cars, even if only one of the parents works. The "second" car is used for groceries, errands, etc. If everything goes well, a true robotaxi service could replace this second car. I'm in a town without a taxi service, and if with few euros I could just book a...

That LateAuto articles has its errors and flaws but thinking that Cybertruck is another "Model X" moment is quite reasonable. Boredom is Musk biggest enemy and we don't know how it would have played out, but I'm sure there is a better present out there in the multiverse where Model X didn't...

True, but bear with me in my dream scenario. People get out at 5pm but know that in a 100m radius and a 10 minutes window there will be cars that pools people based on real-time data and an algorithm that maximize efficiency. Variable fares are established taking into account a lot of...

As Sam Altman said, “Elon desperately wants the world to be saved. But only if he can be the one to save it.” (source) You may disagree but I personally find it accurate in this decade of reading/listening everything Elon said. The simple fact that he wants to be able to "control" AI and...

I year ago I posted this comment from a taxi-driver, car-guy friend of mine. In the meantime, he helped sell a few Ys to his colleagues, while not getting one for himself. For a taxi-driver, he's pretty unworried about range ("EVs are good now, and Teslas are the best, and there are...

My message was confusing: I'm much more interested in the rate of production and installation than effective revenue. Starting Q2 with 1.7GWh in transit bodes very well.

  26. aubreymcfato

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

If I recall correctly, Tesla is paid in tranches, so I think at least some revenue could be recognized if the MP are delivered and installed (in Q2). Also, in the P&D report Tesla told us about GWh installed, not revenue. So there is still a chance.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

On March 28 this youtuber made a drone video of Lathrop, and counted 446 Megapacks (around ~1.7 GWh). Given that Tesla recognized 4 GWh for Q1, we can probably expect a better Q2 for Tesla Energy: there is no way these 446 were delivered and installed in just 2 days...

I was expecting even lower for this Q1, ~85k is not that bad, like Q3 last year. And we probably saw some delayed cars in Q1... Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I'll bet 1$ that US will be the one market to have disappointed the most in Q1. Europe data will be over 85k, as Q323 (the rest of Qs are over 90k). People following the EU market were expecting a decrease YoY. Also China was lower, but expected. I think we'll see very low sales in US: but I...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Also, Musk did not explain why while BYD sales increased YoY, Tesla decreased. Maybe the difference is just delayed deliveries in transit for exported markets? Europe, China and US will see all a drop in sales, bot QoQ and YoY.
  32. aubreymcfato

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Depends how you look at it. BYD decreased QoQ, increased YoY. It seems seasonality is big in China.
  33. aubreymcfato

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

This is very true. It could also mean that the very liberal people who follow some MSM and/or Elon on X now disagree vehemently with him, and he still hasn't gotten hold of the real MAGAs. Lose-Lose :D
  34. aubreymcfato

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Europe won't be the only culprit. We'll be no doubt lower than Q123 (best quarter ever, with 94k) but US and China will disappoint too.
  35. aubreymcfato

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Agreed, China seems to play a big role in this drop... although BYD did in fact increase its Q1, YoY.

I find it quite surprising that, after all, Fremont is still the major contributor to Tesla in terms of production (we miss the Q124 datapoint, it'll arrive on Monday): (thanks @piloly for the chart) Berlin and Texas are disappointing a little, see how bad they compare to Shanghai...

The way I see it, the competition has always been there in Norway, but Tesla is winning. Before Tesla arrived, Norway bought a ton of Leafs, then things changed. Look at the evolution of market share: Tesla is growing its share since 2022: we don't see the full picture here but Kia, Toyota...

I'm not sure there is much of a "code" right now. My dream scenario is that Amazon, Saudis and other funds continue to pour money into Rivian, and that Rivian delivers on their electric vans in meaningful numbers.
