    FSD's "prediction" on a intersection

I remembered seeing some arguments about "FSD shows the crossroad before FSD can actually see it, so HD map is used by FSD". I don't agree. It's like speed limits. They are just some extra info to help AP/FSD, not the "HD map" Waymo and Cruise used. Here is an example I observed about how FSD...

George Hotz and Lex Fridman talks about Autopilot

It's too deep for me to sort out the key points. I'll leave that to you guys. ;) Tesla Autopilot big rewrite to 4D perception and annotation If I ran Tesla, I wouldn't change much Comma.ai mission is to solve self-driving cars Tesla Autopilot and openpilot communicating uncertainty...

Unchosen prototype headlight of Model S & current headlight samsara (defective parts)

Dozens of Model S owners here in Taiwan had reported headlight replacements for 2-5 times a year! DRLs, suppose to emit white, turned yellow after 1-4 months EVERYTIME until you get out of this samsara. Yes, it's under warranty, but it's extremely time-consuming and bothering! We wonder who is...

Front motor rarely used in city driving and not used for regen

A China owner monitored the torque of motors (not sure what app is it) in city driving. He found that front motor is rarely used and ISN'T used for regen. Interesting. Video: 微博

    What's your AVERAGE 10%-80% time? (SCV2, pre-uncorked)

I am considering to buy a Model 3. Because living in an apartment, time spent on supercharging is an important factor for me. I asked few owners I met. They didn't have average time in mind. Most YouTube videos only show "best cases." The best one I've seen is 36m42s. I am curious about how...

Lack of battery heater may cause very slow SuC charging speed

According to previous info: Tesla Model 3: Exclusive first look at Tesla’s new battery pack architecture "Waste heat from the powertrain can be used when the car is moving, but Tesla designed a thermal controller for Model 3 that can also use heat from the powertrain even when the vehicle is...

NO mechanical handle for rear doors. Seriously?

According to https://www.tesla.com/sites/default/files/downloads/2017_Model_3_Emergency_Response_Guide_en.pdf There is no mechanical release handle for rear doors. In an accident, anything could happen. What if front doors are blocked or unable to open due to impact, and people must leave the...

Light color on dashboard is a NO

It's a basic design guide of dashboard. Light color objects cause shadows on the glass which is downside to the eyesight of driver. The wood trim can easily be made of a darker color. Hope Tesla will fix it later.

Hazard lights switch in final interior?

As far as I heard before, MS kept hazard switch as a physical button due to regulations. If this is correct, maybe we can expect a more finished interior (smoother transition) around the 15" LCD, while many people concerned about the extrusion.

Ground landing charts & stats (altitude, speed, & time)

Made few simple charts based on NROL-76 video with an interval of 10 sec. Would really like to have the horizontal position to know more about how first stage went through. Main Engine Cutoff @ 140s, 66km Boostback Burn @ 156-200s, 86-132km, 1580-840m/s Entry Burn @ 431-456s , 68-39km...

    Estimating specs from battery modules

What we know: 1) S&X have 14(16) modules for 75(90) kWh 2) M3 has 8 modules (not sure if it's capped) and 215 mi (EPA) for base model 3) M3 has lower Wh/mi than MS 4) EPA range of MS is based on ~290 Wh/mi 5) Capped M3 will be 75 kWh (by Elon) Here is the math: In short: 1) Base M3 has 55 kWh...

Is rear pano-window a poor design?

I think the design of MS is almost perfect. Why change it and make it worse? 1. It limits trunk opening a lot! 2. For rear passengers, the view is severely limited because of the roof structure around B pillar. Glass roof (with the best view) on MS is NOT available. 3. On the other side, the...
