It may definitely worth it nowadays, for the Tesla users in China.

Bluetooth in garaged X keeps taking control of my iPhone

They may include this in driver profiles if the profiles become smart enough to realize whos currently sitting on the seats. They can check existence of a driver or passengers (the way they did to check for seatbelt warning) on any seat and if it returns zero, this may be used to keep BT off...

Could 1 Pedal Driving lead to 'Unintended Acceleration' incidents?

They may find a smarter way to turn on and off creep mode in the future, crowded traffic, limited spaces like garages, creep on, open road conditions, creep off, etc..

No incentive to keep improving AutoPilot on HW1

Even a tiny bit of modification on the hw setup will certainly require realworld test of millions of miles before enabled. Which will prevent use of valuable and limited resources of the company for development of newer and more advanced models. Does this sound logical? Whats going to happen is...

    Faraday Future Live Event

The key is in your mobile phone and car is smart enough to open door when your phone comes close. I hope your mobile phone is also smart enough to understand whos pocket it is in. (Actually this might be the reason of failure, they keep stay very close to car after pressing selfpark button so...

    Faraday Future Live Event

Anyone impressed here? Im not. I initially could not get the speech and thought main speaker was German, then I listen YT to understand how much I should be thankful. They seem to make a great car, but they dont know how to sell it. I wish they could have a chance to see this video first...

    Driving in icy/snow condition

I have never used an awd car, but always changing all four on my ICEs every winter/summer. I dont rely on these all season whatever tires, just make it right and buy a winter set. There will always be situations where even high experience needs a bit of chance/support. We dont have all-snow...

Could 1 Pedal Driving lead to 'Unintended Acceleration' incidents?

I can understand if a car accelerates and crashes into a shop or whatever. but this is a restricted space and the car is very much able to see the restriction (wall). Why it allows itself to accelerate? prison break mode ? Tesla can easily prevent this happen by checking whether its on a clear...

    Energy demand in EV era

Even if we find a parking area large enough to hold several panels on roof, it will also be large enough to let several EV cars parked under, so capacity will never be enough for all the waiting cars in there. Such places may only provide support for a very limited number of EV cars, means it...

    Energy demand in EV era

I guess its easy to bend duck's head. Electric company cooperates with Tesla and a software adjusts start of charge regionally, based on electric demand data. To benefit from even cheaper charging rates, all you have to do is accept the question appears on screen, asks for joining the cheap...

    Energy demand in EV era

Then things are turning to how to keep EV rev. in clean borders. If the trend you mentioned wind and solar continues same speed (it cannot, have to stop somewhere, lack of installation areas), 6GW clean energy will support annual conversion of roughy 1.2 million cars (6000/310 *62000) from oil...

    Energy demand in EV era

Thanks for these informative replies, but I am not quite sure that night time charging will present a great adventage by means of load, thinking hundreds of thousands of thirsty cars. There may be more complicated scenarios, like rush for a small vacation as happened on short holidays, all...

    Energy demand in EV era

Dont know if this was discussed before, but I wonder how much pressure will be put on energy supply, if x percent of ICE cars are swapped with EVs? I believe millions of EV cars will become the major electric consumers and wondering where we will find out a "clean" source which is able to...

Hoping my MS lasts longer than my Tesla mug did

This is a common problem of mugs with Luda mode enabled. The handle obviously cannot handle the handling speed. Also, its a shame Tesla relied on passive air cooling on such apparatus frequently subjected to sudden heat fluctuations.

Letter to Mr. Musk from a 1-day old outdated Model S owner

I was very happy and proud when I bought my 55 inches samsung smart tv, back in 2012. Next year, my smart tv was looking dumb comparing to new models features. This year, they removed skype and now my tv camera (reason of great cost at buying) is completely useless (a decision from producers)...

Speculation: Global Impact of Autonomous Vehicles

I asked Tesla sales about the full self driving capability...

To me, the only difference between current style of AP and future FSDC will be, FSDC will try to handle all the problems itself in transport between point A and B. The Model 3 I want is getting pretty expensive

You are taking a mid range mid class family grade EV car and adding all the possible bling to make it an entry level Model S, a sport car. Then complaining about the price. You have to use it as is or just add a few survival grade extras for you. Price then will settle around 40-45K range. If...

Concern over performance of "8 years of software updates"

My example about apple was particularly for iphones . I am a samsung owner and my (premium paid) note 2 phone received only one upgrade , from 4.2 to 4.4, that's it. As @Gizmotoy indicates, Apple has a good record on this. Plus, all updates are still free (contrary to MS). The software-driven...

    AP & Evasive Action

Our current overlords will be very pleased with ban of latest human driver from traffic, just not sure if we can see this. I heard going from A to B as a straight line with AP is not yet restricted in Mars. Can be a good selling point ;);)
  32. R

    AP & Evasive Action

I dont think they will be called as car, after some point. See Google's egg. And when our expectations on "how a car should look like" once excluded from equation, level number will become a technical issue.
  33. R

    AP & Evasive Action

Dont you think we are half way there, already ? (ok, I am excluding the turbo boost from todo list). I strongly believe that all these things are products of our unrealistic expectations. Personally, I will continue to expect the unexpected.

Model X didn't warn when my wife was backing up the car and hit a parked car

As long as these features continued to be called as "drive assist", you (driver) are the responsible. If they start giving drivers licenses to blind persons to travel in driver seats of (much advanced versions of) these kind of cars, I believe then we can start sueing the car maker for the...

I had an auto park malfunction / accident. Any one else?

Even if autoparking disabled accidentally, at least car should be able to rise some collision alerts. My poor, el-cheapo aftermarket reversing proximity sensors can do this.
  36. R

    AP & Evasive Action

Agree on this. With new hadware, there may be a limited ability to go backwards. In emergency cases, it might become a lifesaver. Its possible to think on some critical scenarios. A command to let car drive backwards 300 feet, to get away from a threat on the road. Or ability to pull over...
  37. R

    AP & Evasive Action

I concluded on the same. But I believe Tesla can arrange something to prevent this happen again. Like a different kind of friction on the gas pedal or an audio signal on sudden press of break, etc.. Or, simply introduce an Eco mode, prevents Immediate response of gas pedal.
  38. R

    AP & Evasive Action

Then we may start thinking recent accidents with sudden self -acceleration of the car might be related to initial stages of evasive action training :) The question is, who or what scared it? :D
  39. R

    AP & Evasive Action

Since ap system is learning from real world by help of human drivers, do you think one day may it learn to take evasive action where necessary, ie in case of car fire on road, etc? Also wondering if AP is capable of riding backwards in case of emergency?

  41. R

Concern over performance of "8 years of software updates"

Apple has the best record for bringing updates to every possible device they sold, I would be greatly relaxed if Tesla could let development of operating system to apple's hands. In other scenario, we likely to survive in a samsung-like environment where firmware updates quickly forgotten, in a...

Scientists Accidentally Convert CO2 into Ethanol

Tesla releases video showing full autonomy in real world

I wonder whether real world data captured by human Tesla drivers are processed specific to the roads they were captured in, or generic manner. Because things discussed here may just be a reflection of what human drivers normally perform at those locations.

Tesla releases video showing full autonomy in real world

It may be the reason of delay actually. Making a movie of a learning machine can be as difficult as filming an animal starring in a movie. If it decides to park to an unwanted gap, skips the fixed camera. Then Retake the scene, etc.. Not as easy as it seems... :) (unless you switch to 'slave'...

Elon Confirms 10/19 Announcement is Model 3 Part 2

Actually, they did not announce a major change. We all were waiting for ap 2.0 (the press release calls the current as "first generation ap"). Do we have 2.0 now? No. Just the infrastructure of it. As Elon stated, every new sensor config requires millions of miles before making it public so we...

AP following the idiot in front

Here is the scenario. An accident blocks all the lanes except outer half of left lane butyou are not aware of the accident, all you seeing is everyone slowly moving over left line. Do you (or AP) stay and wait in the lane endlessly?
