Rebooted MCU Display Not Responding $1948 Bill

It's more than just logging, they cache a lot of things there and they use the whole chip which leaves little to no room for wear leveling. It's a culmination of poor design choices.
  2. T

    Salvage Car Owners Support Group.

Nope, that's not it. eMMC has all contacts on the bottom of the chip. It's a BGA.

MCU1 upgrade - Radio and XM

    Thanks!

MCU1 upgrade - Radio and XM

Also do you have a pn on the harness/wiring? I need to swap mine out.
  5. T

MCU1 upgrade - Radio and XM

Is that an S or X? Mine definitely did not just slide out after removing those same bolts/screws. That was a 17 Model X.

    MCU1 and IC

Need to have this repaired before sale now. Mods please remove.

MCU1 upgrade - Radio and XM

The lots of work is the fact that the tuner is buried in the dash and not easily removed. Now if you want to you could just run the new cabling and zip tie the new one up under the dash but if you want it to be mounted the way it should be then you have a good bit of work to do.

Rebooted MCU Display Not Responding $1948 Bill

Logging isn't the only thing wearing the eMMC down. They also cache all the music your stream there.... Lots-O-writes.....

    MCU1 and IC

This is not an MCU2 it is still MCU1. Yes, all the trim pieces fit all MCUs. No official asking price. Make an offer.
  10. T

    MCU1 and IC

Forgot to mention that I will have to remove the trim from the MCU so it will not have one.
  11. T

    MCU1 and IC

Have one of each. Still have to finish a few things so may be a few days before it ships but should be ready early this week. I have root access and can provide this to you. Make an offer!

    Premium Audio Amp PN 1004833-10-A

You could but it takes a lot more than just this part.

    Premium Audio Amp PN 1004833-10-A

Title says it all. Have one, don't need it. Make offer.

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

What causes that? Have you seen the gateway not come back up after a reboot?
  15. T

    Lighting Upgrade

You could probably get a mobile service guy to do it if they are already there. If you schedule something just for this they will likely charge for it.
  16. T

    Lighting Upgrade

There is a config setting that they need to do to enable the lights.

    Buying 2017 X100D Long Range

Yep, wish that were the case though... Then I'd have MCU2 and not the slow failing version that I have instead...

New model S is coming sooner than we all think

Maybe just unlucky.... First look at Tesla's new Model S and Model X wireless phone charger - Electrek
  19. T

    Buying 2017 X100D Long Range

August 2017 was just for AP2.5. Still has MCU1. MCU2 was around March 2018.
  20. T

New model S is coming sooner than we all think

Refresh already happened, they added full wireless charging capability....... For your phone that is.

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

Then why is the the name Intel in it? I'm sure it could also be used to do MCU 1 replacement as well.
  23. T

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

Yeah I mean certainly there is an issue of over burdening the service centers but they need to figure that out. Model Y is gonna break them if they can't take the number of customers who want to upgrade their MCU. Also this is something that mobile service can easily take care of.
  24. T

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

There is even a script on the MCU to do a complete profile backup to Tesla prior to swapping....
  25. T

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

???? That only proves the point. It's entirely possible to do. Green did his and paved the way for the rest of us to do it outside Tesla. Edit: I see what you were saying. It technically works, that's what I was saying. It's a policy thing with Tesla not doing it. Same as battery upgrades.
  26. T

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

The same way they determine who gets upgraded batteries.... Stock. If they have stock of refurb units them it gets that, if not and the wait is long or not able to be determined then they get a newer version. That's how I got a 90kwhr battery.
  27. T

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

Even if you did it wouldn't work. I can give you the invoice for my P85 Model S that they upgraded the battery so that it ended up being a legit P90 but that won't get them to do the exact same upgrade for you. Right now it seems they only do these sorts of things when they have to. They COULD...
  28. T

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

I did not buy it. This was a statement from Tesla service. It would be new and have a 1 year parts warranty I was told. That's the tricky part.
  29. T

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

To be fair he did say these were only for failed units. So similar to what they have done for batteries. That is if you have an 85 and they don't have any then they may put a 90 in and "upgrade" it.
  30. T

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

As an update I was able to get them to agree to sell it out the door. $2500 plus $500 core charge, which I can't get back as they won't accept an MCU1 as the core for MCU2. I will be sourcing mine through salvage....

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

In the "with a grain of salt" section.... I had a mobile service tech out and as we talked about various aspects of the car we came around to the MCU and upgrades. Oddly enough he stated that he had done several upgrades of tegra to Intel MCUs on AP1 vehicles and that the IC didn't even need to...

    Salvage Car Owners Support Group.

It sounds like a lot! Though it still needs to be tied back to cost and then compared. I'll do some research later
  33. T

    Salvage Car Owners Support Group.

Yeah, if they could show a life cycle capacity that justified the cost then I'd be all for that.
  34. T

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

You can get it to turn off by doing a full 12v reset, or rebooting the gateway if you have that access. Learned that one the hard way too.... Now be aware that you can't then turn it on again... Flip side of that hard lesson
  35. T

    Salvage Car Owners Support Group.

Yeah as much as we accuse Tesla of doing "California engineering" the lead acid is actually a good choice as those of us that have highs in the single digits, sometimes negative, really need it.
  36. T

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

My particular MCU is in a 2017 model X. Also I have root access so I can see the values which was also the only way I was able to drive my vehicle since I had pinned to drive enabled when it first failed.
  37. T

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

Pro tip if you believe your EMMC is about to fail disable pin to drive. You will not be able to drive the vehicle if PIN to drive is enabled and the MCU fails.
  38. T

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

There is a value that they can read that is supposed to estimate the average number of block level erases remaining on the chip. However that number is not an accurate predictor of chip failure. As an example my EMMC chip is failing with just over half the expected block erases remaining.
  39. T

WTB MCU Tegra Daughter Board (eMMC can be dead)

Title says it all. Will entertain whole MCU if the price is right ( Prefer it to be premium audio compatible with P/N 1045006)

Why will you need a Cyber Truck?

    Yeah, that's legit
  41. T

Why will you need a Cyber Truck?

Haha, oh no... I realize that there are already ridiculously priced trucks out there. Especially when you have a platinum F250 or F350 diesel... Nobody NEEDS one of those either Edit: I should clarify that I don't propose that those trucks don't have utility, it's just that I don't see the...
  42. T

Why will you need a Cyber Truck?

Well the answer to this whole thread can be summed up in a single, pseudo word. MURICA! Seriously, nobody NEEDS this expensive of a truck. That said I reserved a tri-motor....
  43. T

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

The IC doesn't seem to be resource soaked right now on NoA.
  44. T

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

Sure, but it won't be "FSD" at first... It will be another L2 driving aide with nags, as such it would be reasonable to expect to see what the car is going to want to do. Otherwise it would be pretty nerve racking in the city
  45. T

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

I mean they are going to have to figure it out if they don't intend to retrofit every MCU1 AP2-2.5 vehicle anyways
  46. T

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

Not saying not to show positioning, IC1 does vehicle positioning just fine. It's laggy but it works. Just use 2d images if that's a limitation.
  47. T

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

Yeah, I don't doubt they are better on 2 but given that we had stop signs and lights showing on MCU/IC1 some months ago I'm pretty confident they could make a version of the visuals work. Might be crappy but....
