    Plaid subwoofer upgrade

Sorry about the late reply. I took it back to Fremont Service saying that should never happen. The manager agreed and fixed it for free. I believe his tech held the torx head with vice grips and carefully drilled it out. My solution so far has been 7" Hertz speakers in the front doors which...

    Plaid subwoofer upgrade

Sorry, I can't. I bought them from Junior's Car Stereo in Fremont. He has a Plaid and can order the whole set. At this point I don't recommend getting the woofer, looks like a LOT of work to install. The rest are pretty easy. Be sure to get the sound deadening material as well for the door skin...

    Plaid subwoofer upgrade

I think you are correct, but it does not sound that bad. Know of a place that sells sheet fiberglass? I have used MDF in the past. Around here it's all cloth and resin.

    Plaid subwoofer upgrade

OK, finally got the time. NOT a drop in. The online manual makes it easy if all goes well. There is room for the Mille if you make a box and mount a little higher than stock. But my tale is different. One of the bolts holding the stock enclosure spun its nut instead of coming off. It's the...

    Plaid subwoofer upgrade

Has anyone done this and kept the stock position? I upgraded the rest of the speakers to Hertz Mille. No other changes yet, the stock system seems to drive the speakers just fine and sound is much improved. I also added some sound deadening in the doors so no doubt that helped. The last...

"Refreshed" Model S model VIBRATION tracking and information thread!!!

Lowering pretty much solved my half shaft vibration, but I got a new rattle at 20 mph. Tesla service has a vibration team and they re-torqued the whole front suspension but to no avail. Then they made the passenger door harder to close by moving the latch and she is now rattle free. The door is...

Plaids with 20" tires AND rear inner tire wear?

They blame camber which is the lesser problem. Toe is the bigger problem and alignment not done at low ride height is second.
  9. T

Tesla Model S Plaid 21" Rear Inner Tire Defect

Look at the Tesla specs, use the ones closest to zero. Be sure the car is set to its lowest ride height. Inner tire wear is mostly from the toe in which Tesla sets way too much and somewhat because of the excessive camber.
  10. T

Tesla Model S Plaid 21" Rear Inner Tire Defect

Not at all, the suspension design is exceedingly good. But wheel alignment specs from Tesla are bad. Set to minimum spec at low ride height. Many Tesla SC will not do that for you. Some alignment shops will not get it right.

Yellow screen? Force Tesla to Replace it!

Just do it yourself, any cheap UV box for fingernails works, probably two overnight treatments. Yeah, Tesla should take care of it, but I did it myself and saved many hours over service center visits. Take the bottom off the UV box so the UV hits the screen and tape it to one corner of the...

Need tech advice for adding camera

I am hoping to put a back up camera, same as original, mounted in upper section of radiator opening on the front. The idea is to see how close the curb is when pulling forward into a space. Dummy install, if it works: put a camera up front, wire to remote switch next to backup camera to...

    Plaid Vibration around 38-42MPH....

Good weather lately. Vibration is almost gone at the lower height. As far as the brackets vs links, the brackets are harder, but not prohibitively so. I talked to UP tech and they told me why the brackets were better, not sure I agree, but they are in and working well. Note: you may be...

    Plaid Vibration around 38-42MPH....

Got the UP lowering brackets in. Much harder than it looked at first. Finding a screw in the right front tire slowed things a bit as well. Too much rain to check vibration, but I think it's better.

    Plaid Vibration around 38-42MPH....

Going to install lowering links to see if they help. But really wondering if I should sell and get the 1000V Plaid when it comes out.

    Plaid Vibration around 38-42MPH....

I think they have done a lot, understand what is happening, but have no solution. On paper the axle angles are fine, out in the real world they have a harmonic or its just too much angle. They can't fix the angle...

    Plaid Vibration around 38-42MPH....

Thanks, since you really helped my P100D wheel alignment, what are you running on your Plaid?
  18. T

    Plaid Vibration around 38-42MPH....

Have you tried lowering your Plaid? Some say it helps. As you say, my old P100D (GF car now) did not vibrate. Makes me wonder if it is an axle or harmonic in the dual motors.

Do it yourself. It takes a few nights to develop the adhesive and get rid of the yellow entirely.

Creak/Groan when car gets a twist.

4 month old Model S Plaid. Was silent until about a week ago. Now when I go into my driveway, which I must approach at an angle while set to low ride height, I hear creaking from the back. To double check I went slowly over speed bumps and the car is definately making noises. My P100D is silent...

Yellow screen? Force Tesla to Replace it!

This is a recent event? Our club has a UV box we pass around to totally eliminate the yellow. It's really not an issue any more except to those who hate Tesla and want legislation instead of wanting to fix their problem. Tesla has not sued the supplier for failing to fully develop the glue.

Car feels wobbly after new tires

I had this on mine with second set of tires. Alignment needs to be at the minimum factory settings, almost exactly. If they aligned them "good enough" and in spec but closer to the max settings you get what you describe as well as rapid tire wear. Tell the alignment guy, minimum settings.

An honest review of the yoke

I am pretty much used to the yoke. I also drive GF's P100D and it is not a smooth transition. IMO the worst part is the turn signals are not left/right, they are up/down, just plain stupid. Heat controls are also wrong, left/right and not up/down. Controls should be positioned to make sense...

Model S Plaid Brakes Are Terrible!

They don't mention the clips are there for efficiency. Having the pads against the rotors gives a little drag.

    Tires wear out unusually quickly.

Have you taken your car to a 3rd party alignment shop and told them "set to minimum specs while on low ride height"? Is your inside rear wearing faster than the rest of the tires? Are there any unusual signs of wear? I got almost 30K miles out of a set of Pilot Super Sports when touring the...

New Model S Plaid/LR. whistling wind noise at 79+ MPH

It will probably vary by car. After two trips to the SC they admitted they are not a body shop. I have a friend who works at EBC and does really expensive cars. He agreed to align the doors for a drive in the Plaid. First he checked all the seals, they were OK. He took off each door latch...

Home delivery of Plaid Monday Feb 7 2022 Guys who dropped the car off were clueless. I asked about that, and they said they were hired to be safe drivers, not technical people. 1) no lower cover for trunk 2) driver door window molding bad / window not adjusted right, has wind noise 3) driver...

    Winter tire recommendations

I am not sure of my offset, but just got back from a very snowy trip to Coeur D'Alene with these 19" tires on a P100D. As much confidence as you can get on glare ice and snow. The 19's are much more forgiving of bad conditions than the '21s.

My new Plaid compared to my 2018 P100D

Odd, my 2017 was fine for quality control, luxury materials and great on storage space. I am looking forward to trying the yoke. I just wonder what you are doing here if you don't like the cars Tesla makes?

Upgrading Brake Pads for Plaid - Racing Brake

Since mine is a P100D track time is only one lap full tilt, then slower. Quite a few laps though since 2017 when I first put on RB rotors front and rear. No problems, did the rotors, brake lines and replaced fluid, stock calipers.

Plaid handling improvements: better wheels, tires, brakes, suspension options

2017 P100D that I probably drive too hard is at 330 - 340 most of the time, flat ground 85 mph. Running 265/285 Sports or Cups depending on how stupid I feel like driving. BTW, great news on your Plaid handling, took me two years to get my P100D sorted somewhat close to that.

Tesla Service - Getting worse by the day....and weirder

Savannah was great for a headlight on our last cross country road trip. But Fremont for a windshield was a mess. Uber took half an hour, car was not ready after I got the call. In the end the service rep said "If you want better service, come work for us, get your friends to work for us, we...

    Plaid handling

Does the Plaid have track mode or plans for it? Currently running a P100D with 265 front, 285 rear, Lexani wheels (very light forged monobloc) and RB rotors, rear camber adjusters. Wheel alignment is top secret, but she is neutral in the corners. Problem is not enough rear power bias so I have...

    Need New Tires - 21" - What's Best?

I have not seen the alignment component mentioned. I have gotten 23 and almost 30 thousand miles on my last two sets of Michelin Sports. I keep the car on low and have a local shop do the alignment to Tesla minimum specs, that is, as little alignment as Tesla allows. I had to buy camber...

So what makes a Plaid + worth $30k more than a Plaid? [Update: Plaid+ canceled]

For brakes I am hoping Plaid+ goes two piece. Carbon still has problems in the rain, so aluminum hats and slotted, drilled rotors are my choice. For wheels, they need to up the ante substantially with some really light forged rims. This would save many buyers $10K in aftermarket upgrades.

Vendor Rear Adjustable Camber Bushings for Model S/X Group Buy

Tesla will align to their spec which is probably not what you want. Have your local shop set the alignment to the minimum Tesla allows at your most often used ride height (usually "low"). Note the shop has to know how to get the pan off the rear, if it's their first Tesla they have to look up...

Vendor Rear Adjustable Camber Bushings for Model S/X Group Buy

Yes. Wifey said "You are getting too serious about the Tesla" and now no more comments from her. 265/35/21 is not a typo. The passenger side had no issues, the driver side needed a tiewrap to hold the inner fender forward against the cooling line. Check the wheel order picture for width and...

Final on wheels/tires. Very neutral handling and higher lateral Gs (according to Dragy) after these changes: UP adjustable rear camber arms Michelin Sport 4S all around, 265/35 front and 285/30 rear Car factory height set to always low except my driveway, alignment done on low after up down...
