2023 Model Y Long Range Disappointment in boominess after Demo Drive

Sorry to hear. Was hoping this would eventually get fixed with the newer cars. There seem to be two separate but related issues. You can check out my post here (which was written in the context of whether an aftermarket suspension upgrade would fix the issues), but it's good idea to read the...

3D Printed Rigid Hatch Stops (to reduce uneven road noise)

I should clarify that I'm referring specifically to the low-frequency booming when I say that coilovers aren't the solution. There are two separate issues: low frequency booming pressure buffeting caused by a loose, misaligned, or poorly secured tailgate, which causes ear discomfort or pain...

3D Printed Rigid Hatch Stops (to reduce uneven road noise)

I have MPP Comfort coilovers set to fully soft and the booming is still there. With the coilovers and switch from 21" wheels to 19" wheels, I expected some reduction in boominess. But it's maybe 5-10% less, if that. Do it for ride comfort, do it for handling, do it for looks, but don't do it...

Front door randomly flinging itself open when opened.

This happened on my 2017 X. Tesla Service said water got into the door motor enclosure during car washes/rain and was shorting it out. They replaced the motor under warranty, and the issue never returned.

    Buffeting/Booming issue survey

    Hi @GeoMetry, any updates?
  6. jgrgnt

Which method worked for you to reduce booming?

On my car (March 2022 build, MYP), pressure buffeting was completely solved using a combination of vinyl tubing and rigid hatch stops. Low frequency booming persists, even after switching from 21" to 19" wheels/tires and installing MPP Comfort coilovers. The booming is less noticeable when the...

    UP vs MPP Coilover

My 2018, I felt, was under damped from delivery. The loaner with 30k miles felt more buttoned down than my car did at 50 miles. I recall my test drive of an M3P in 2018 felt dynamically identical to the car I took delivery of a few weeks later, so I never suspected defective shocks. I did...

    UP vs MPP Coilover

I did, and tire pressures were as expected. The difference was in the damping and body control.

    UP vs MPP Coilover

+1 I recently drove a 2018 M3P loaner, built just a few months after my own 2018 M3P, and the suspension was noticeably more controlled than I could remember on my car. Mine was one of the first off the line, so Tesla either made tweaks in that short time period, or I had bad dampers, or the...

FS: 21" Model Y Uberturbine Wheels with Pirelli Tires, Center Caps, TPMS (SoCal)

These were taken off my 2022 Model Y Performance at around 1,000 miles. Excellent condition, no curb rash, scratches or scuffs. Original Pirelli P-Zero T1 summer tires have plenty of tread remaining. TPMS sensors (bluetooth) are installed, and center caps are included, so this package is...

    Cabin Camera Blinded Error

    Wh/mi Range MY 2022

I'm observing a consistent 260-280 wh/mi at the conclusion of long road trips. Our start/end point is Orange County, California. A trip to New Mexico during colder December temps (~35F) returned 280 Wh/mi after 3,000 miles A trip to Colorado during summer (110F in Arizona), which included...

    Cabin Camera Blinded Error

Did you mention the error you receive about the cabin camera being covered? FWIW, here's the wording I used on my service request: Cannot activate Autopilot or FSD Beta at night. Message appears: "Cabin camera is covered or blinded." Cleaned and checked the camera lens, all seems normal...

    Cabin Camera Blinded Error

Update: got my car back today. Service replaced the interior camera (part # 1588124-90-1) and now AP/FSD work at night as expected. No more errors! I don’t remember how the original camera looked prior to replacement, but I took a photo of the new camera and posted it below. Maybe you can spot...

    Cabin Camera Blinded Error

I’ve had this problem for a while. At first, I thought it was because my tinted windows weren’t letting in enough light at night. Thanks to this thread, I checked and confirmed that my camera array seems to lack the IR feature. My MYP (March 2022 build) is at the service center now awaiting new...

Easy and effective low frequency fix

Yes, it happens on non-tinted cars. Mine had the low frequency booming at delivery. Applying a tint (all windows + roof) made no difference.

    Aodhan AFF7's on Model Y's

The fitment looks perfect in this photo. Do you have any more pictures that show the amount of poke? The offset seems pretty aggressive, but it looks like the drop from the KWs tucked the tires in nicely. Thinking about doing this same setup.

    Ear pain/Pressure help

Great review! Would you say it improves (reduces) the low frequency booming at all, or is the 15% noise reduction happening higher up in the frequency range?

Easy and effective low frequency fix

+1 So far, I've had the same experience with regards to pressure buffeting. The only trick that worked was to install clear vinyl tubing (3/16" ID) inside the weather seal. I believe this adds rigidity to the upper part of the hatch near the hinges, which is otherwise unsupported. I tried...

Easy and effective low frequency fix

Easy and effective low frequency fix

Spent this weekend experimenting with a few solutions. My car has mild pressure buffeting and the low frequency "body boom." I was looking to address both and get them to the point where it no longer bothered me. Here's what I did: I used double-sided 3M tape to add 1/8" thick ultra stiff...

Easy and effective low frequency fix

Still haven't gotten around to making the ridged hatch stops, but today I drove our Model X for the first time in about two weeks. It has the low frequency booming, too! It's simply nowhere near as bad as in our Model Y, certainly not bad enough to notice in 70,000 miles of driving! That sort...

Easy and effective low frequency fix

My 3/2022 MYP has the pressure buffering and booming. So far, I’ve tried the paper-pull test on all four bump stops and made adjustments where necessary, but that seemed to make very little difference. My hatch was slightly crooked at delivery, so today I loosened the two bolts on the upper...

I ordered the TPARTS module yesterday for my Ryzen-equipped MYP. I live ten minutes from the TPARTS warehouse in Tustin, CA, so I opted for local pickup. Met Chris, who runs the business. Super nice guy, even offered to install the module for me. I’m glad he did, because it required significant...

    Ear pain/Pressure help

The MYP I test drove in October had terrible pressure buffeting. The MYP I took delivery of last weekend had moderate pressure buffeting, which I'm still trying to resolve via adjustment of the rubber stops. If I turn up the music, it's not too big of a deal, but definitely want to minimize it.

    Power Conversion System (PCS) failure

Interesting thread. My Model 3 Performance has been at the service center for two weeks, waiting for a new Power Conversion System to arrive. Thankfully, I'm still under warranty. I had the same issue as others have reported: charging indicated at 0A or 1A, with spikes up to 32A (even though...

AMD Ryzen UPDATE MODEL 3/Y? [retrofit speculation thread]

Based on this Twitter thread, it appears that the AMD-based MCU and Li-ion battery go hand in hand. This makes an MCU3 retrofit challenging and likely expensive, because wiring harnesses need to be replaced, along with (potentially) other components.

Refreshed 2021+ Model X and Model X Plaid waiting room

Ordered a 5-seat Plaid on 8/6. Delivery estimate continues to show “April”. Have yet to receive the call to switch to 6-seater configuration. When they do call, we will probably cancel the order, since we prefer the fold-flat seats. So someone else can move up a slot!

    Is MCU2 upgrade worth it?

Unless you're planning on upgrading to a new S/X within a year, I'd say it's well worth it. Games and other features aside, the improvement in day-to-day usability is significant. The screen is much more responsive, and reboot cycles take 1/4 to 1/5 the time of MCU1.

Plaid 5 and 7 seat option removed

Has it been confirmed that the 5-seater X is/was supposed to have this? From the photos and renders, it appears the cupholders are still located at the back of the front console, and there is no folding armrest.
