    Roadster on Top Gear

Crikey. Robert really does sound a bit ranty in that BBC piece, I think he extrapolated a little too much.

Green Car Reports: 2012 Tesla Model S: First Ride Report

I agree, not much detail, and all the pictures they have aren't actually of the betas?

Model S Beta Test "Rides" and the Fremont, CA, Factory tour!

Pretty enormous energy consumption, but I guess they had been going from about 10-70mph with a car full of people ALL day. I think they used the friction brakes at the end of the run too so they would get max regen.

Parts of the Tesla website, possibly everything but the homepage is down for maintenance. The message has a picture of some roadsters on jacks!

Pictures, videos, and news from the Model S (pre-)event Oct 1, 2011

Did you get a look at what's under the "driving" section of the car controls on the touch screen UI?

    Infotainment center / apps

Great to know they're definitely thinking about it. Although it obviously isn't necessary, I think it's something that is really useful for motorway/highway/A-road driving, and seeing as the new Ford Focus has it...Why not you're 50-80k luxury sedan...

Tesla Roadster on SpeedTV's "My Ride Rules!" - Wednesday nights

The Sun delivers over 1kW of power per square meter on the surface on a sunny day. I had to work it out a few times for an astro exam in January and I think the simplistic theoretical figure was 1.4kW. Solar panels are however only roughly 15%? ish efficient, so that's why a small area has such...

    21" Tires

I suppose it all depends on what you care most about. If I were in the market for a Model S I would have to shell out for those lovely turbines, even if they didn't improve range. Here in the UK if it snows just a tiny bit nobody goes anywhere so it's easy to forget the snow/ice issue sometimes.
  14. J

    21" Tires

Is there confirmation of that then? If so, why would you get the 19-inchers? Turbines look better with 7% or so more range!

    Wait for sport/performance option?

Sorry it does, what with all the new info coming in and wanting to get to sleep I put it up quickly in the news section. Personally I wouldn't pay for it as 5.6s is fast enough for me, but I am glad they're doing it purely to see some genuinely interesting and innovative competition for the...

    Model S specs

From the torque curve, you can see the Model S' torque of 415Nm is at 0-7000rpm. That also gives a peak power number as well as power=(torque (lbft)*revs)/5252, so 415Nm at 7000 is 407 hp. Versus the A7's 310, that looks pretty good! I think the Model S is supposed to weigh in at around 4000lbs...

@reed is the twitterers/tweeter/birds name (I don't know I don't use twitter), and he's got lots of pictures not yet linked. One pretty funny one of Musk in the frunk being laughed at.

Pictures, videos, and news from the Model S (pre-)event Oct 1, 2011

Would anybody be able to ask whether adaptive cruise control will be available with Model S? If so, can it take the speed down to 0mph in, for example, a motorway traffic jam. It doesn't matter, but I just think that it's a really cool piece of vehicle innovation.

    Model S Beta

Tesla say here (Model S features) that they have an infrared coating that reduces the solar load transmitted through the glass to 20%, but no mention as to whether there will or will not be a shade or something available for those who leave in really hot places.
  28. J

    Model S Beta

Sounds divisive. Personally at the moment I really, really like it. I agree, really nice to see that empty space between the driver and passenger, makes it look so spacious. Also much easier for the clumsy no-doors-opened driver swaps we always find ourselves doing. I much prefer the instrument...

    Website Updated!!!

For some reason I can't highlight the text to copy and paste, but in the features section the key is mentioned: "Programmable for individual drivers, the Tesla key loads preferred setting (seat, mirror, steering wheel positions) and commands the door handles to slide out as you approach. Lightning GT

Maybe it's possible but I don't know about how feasible the power input required to charge at that rate is. If it uses 200 Wh/mile (a guess) a 150 mile range requires a 30kWh battery, which to charge in 10 mins needs about 180 kW. A LOT of power in short.
  31. J

    Ford Focus EV

Agh horrible! I'd been thinking the focus EV could be extremely popular if it was priced right, but with that dropped in the boot, I doubt it. Astonishing how much of a packaging difference there seems to be between purpose-built EVs and those built on existing platforms.

    Revenge of the Electric Car

I'm not sure what it is exactly, I'm sure it's meant to represent the EV1 because of the hummer pictured. I think(?) they were introduced around the time that GM crushed EV1. Obviously they couldn't show a picture of an actual EV1 being crushed because they're pretty much all...Well, already...

So we went to Palo Alto today

Damn, that car is beautiful! Like how the testers have a 007 symbol on top right of the windscreen, they know what they're driving! Looking at the interior, the touch screen is dominating, will be interesting to see the response of the public when they see a finished interior.

    Fisker Surf (Karma wagon)

Just ridiculous. I mean the Karma is fairly absurd-looking to start with, and this is just too far towards the bat-mobile to not be laughed at. Imagine actually seeing one of these on the road, in a queue of traffic stuck between a BMW 3 series and a Fiat Punto. I think I would actually laugh!

    A Cabriolet, a Van and a Crossover/SUV

It has been kicking around for a while, but the date on this is fresh! Perhaps this is a confirmation that their ambitions are unchanged? We already know about Model X, leaving the van and cabriolet (Roadster 3.0?)

    Elon Musk

Pretty inspiring life he's had if that program is representative at all. Hard to believe how someone like him turns from a student into a multi-millionaire in such a short space of time and just keeps going with what he thinks is important.

    Tesla reports second-quarter

A van and a cabriolet (roadster 3.0?) have been suggested quite speculatively by Tesla before as sharing the Model S platform, and I'd imagine for cost and time saving reasons they'd like to use the platform to it's fullest extent before moving onto a new platform (Bluestar at last?). I did...

    Tesla reports second-quarter

I'd forgotten about their "safest car" target, frankly I thought it was a bit of a pipe dream. I will be amazed if Tesla can bring this car to market being so astonishingly good at pretty much everything and still make money on it, but it looks like they're on track. It's Tesla making and...

    Roadster on Top Gear

This wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it could be. They did actually mention a few decent things about both cars, pointing out that for the money, the leaf was certainly better. They didn't go into running costs properly though and made up some stuff about battery lifetimes. The messing about...

    Fisker Karma

Eurgh that false engine noise is absolutely horrible. That is louder than most small, cheap petrol cars, and sounds a lot worse.

Alain Prost and son team up for first all-electric ice-racing series

So are the jokes in the comments section. But also kind of great: "Those crashes were very shocking. Clearly repulsed by the apex. Looks like it Hertz. OK, these are getting well into the range of "ug... please stop." So I will." "When I saw the crash I was like "Ohm my God!"
