Early 2019 for Model 3’s, what was the point of an early reservation?

By being a reservation holder you will be in the front of the queue in Australia. I think its a fairly obvious proposition that when you are on the opposite side of the world and drive on the opposite side of the road you arent going to be be getting a car before demand of LHD vehicle was met.

    More details please Minister Frydenburg

If funding Tesla to develop the M3 is the policy motivation wouldn't a direct financial contribution to Tesla be a more efficient means of funding Tesla? I really don't think that is the motivation. If it was, Josh would have been standing in front of a Tesla not a a whole range of sub 100k...

    More details please Minister Frydenburg

The incentive is that you don't pay the 40c per litre fuel levy...the more you offset that the more you save relative to an ICE car. IMHO that's actually the best way to reward EV drivers. A P100D sitting in a millionaires garage being driven 5000kms per year is hardly moving the needle on the...

    CarsGuide Model S Review

I think you are missing a key driver of the price, that a supercharger would cost upwards of 50k as a capital expense for example. Ongoing costs are not just the cost of electricity either, think about vandalism, wear and tear as more and more superchargers are installed. I don't see any way...

    CarsGuide Model S Review

I spend at least $200 for a full tank of diesel in my land cruiser. Albeit I vet far better range but obviously nowhere near the level of performance. That said, charge at home off-peak for 2 - 3 $ unless you need to travel. Problem solved.

    Carbon fibre wheels/rims

You are talking 10k minimum for CF wheels. Would be cool for something like electric GT but kind of OTT for a daily driver.

    New S60 battery degradation thoughts

You didn't pay for that battery capacity and the benefits it provides. Not sure why you feel entitled to it.

    True Cost of Ownership

Whilst self-maintenance will leave you with more money in your pocket that is not something that a vast majority of people will do. Even if you do it yourself, time is not free. Tesla Model S - Next Generation ?

Tesla has proven that they are not "like all car makers out there" Most manufacturers will release a new model, leave it literally stagnant for 4-10 years and do a cosmetic refresh at some stage. Contrast that that with Tesla who continuously update and improve their cars as they learn and...

UAW sends out organizers to unionize Tesla’s factory

So UAW accepted money at the expense of the workers they supposedly represent. The Federal government under Obama essentially gifted UAW a majority stake in the US auto industry whilst UAW screwed over the workers in "negotiations". And to top it off, UAW made $5.6 million in contributions to...

UAW sends out organizers to unionize Tesla’s factory

OK so you are saying that UAW sacrificed NUMMI workers for the sake of the broader UAW base (see: Detroit). Remind me again why it is a good idea for Tesla employees to join the UAW. As for "funny money". Today GM is worth 56 billion USD. A 17.5% stake of GM is not funny money. That's...

This Motor Industry Will Self Destruct In... ?

Being generous, an electric drivetrain is around 3 - 4 X as efficient as an ICE (of course this is a general statement as opposed to a specific comparison) Even then it doesn't tip the scales in favour of electric drive for this application. This serves to illustrate that even with such an...

I appreciate that you are bullish on electric transportation, but lets play with the numbers here. The factory kerb weight of my Landcruiser Wagon is 2265kg. Add a bullbar, winch, under body protection, recovery equipment, servicing tools, an extra spare wheel, cargo, 2 - 3 people and you get...

    Aluminum Battery Shield fell off

You are being too hyperbolic about what's happened. Yes it came off, it is two screws that worked their way loose after clearly not being tightened to the correct torque value by the last person to work in them. You haven't given us info as to whether this was a car retrofitted with the battery...

Is tire damage covers under warranty on initial tires?

Tires are not covered under warranty in the case of a puncture - Tesla's warranty (just like all other warranties) covers defective design or workmanship, a puncture is a wear and tear issue that is your responsibility to fix. The only time you would expect warranty repair to a tire is an issue...

Tesla helping sponsor Melbourne Charity Cocktail Event for Kids in Care

A great cause to support, good on you Tesla AU. Whilst this is a great cause it is somewhat hyperbolic to say that our "kids in care" situation a human rights travesty. It is however something that state governments around Australia do quite poorly, most children leaving state care find...

Who has the current highest pack energy density in production?

If you are referring to cell density then yes, but if the 100 pack has the same volume as the 90 pack (which it does) then the pack density is obviously higher on the 100.

UAW sends out organizers to unionize Tesla’s factory

Let's not forget that when GM and Chrysler were "reorganised" under Chapter 11 bankruptcy during the GFC, UAW emerged as the largest shareholder in both. They have a vested interest in Tesla failing.

    Public Medium post about unionizing..

Quite telling that when Tesla had a choice as to where they would put GF1 it wasn't near Fremont. Unfortunately as long as they require a large workforce at Fremont they will have to balance profitability with the cost of living for their employees.

This Motor Industry Will Self Destruct In... ?

I think you might need to look up the word 'nobody' in your dictionary. Also you probably don't have a cultural understanding, many Australians who live in urban centres travel the Australian outback. The Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger and Mitsubishi Triton are all in the top ten sold vehicles...

Totally agree, on permanent bases Solar+storage makes sense and there is no reason why white fleet vehicles can't be EV's either.

    Understanding Trump

The dislike button is as much a form of expression as a written response. Maybe you don't like this form of expression, but again this highlights my prior concern that you have a problem with dissent if it does not come in a form you find agreeable.

    Understanding Trump

I am expressing the fact that I disagree with your post. Another example of the close minded left not being able to handle a dissenting opinion. In the Real World, Not Hollywood, the Left Is Close-Minded, and the Right Allows Dissent

This Motor Industry Will Self Destruct In... ?

What you mention is nothing new. I've seen battery + solar in mil use for at least a decade. There is a big difference between stationary storage and EV's. As in my prior post you can't drop a Jerry can full of electrons to an EV that's run out of power.

The military use what is mission appropriate. Are you aware of just how many solar panels and batteries you would need to provide electricity to just a single vehicle? And when that vehicle depletes it's battery 300km from that power source how will you recharge it? With a diesel vehicle you...
  39. D

This Motor Industry Will Self Destruct In... ?

The sheer volume of solar panels and stationary storage required to provide adequate supply of electricity far outweighs the logistics burden of diesel fuel. As I said there is a role for electric vehicles in a military context, but there is no way it makes sense at a FOB or in an...

This Motor Industry Will Self Destruct In... ?

There will continue to be a market for diesel powered vehicles a long way into the future, petrol however is likely to continue as a hobby as you suggest. Why? Using Australia as an example, we have a huge expanse of open land that is traversable only by 4WD, in some cases requiring a Toyota...

Why wasn't Tesla part of the 100 Tech Companies Signing against the Travel Ban?

Your example is the intended use of the H1B programme. Now, lets be honest, too many companies use H1B for the wrong reasons - by and large there are a few large companies abusing the system to lower wages of sys admins and other lower order roles. We all know who they are.

    Tesla pickup

The Rimac Concept One actually uses a two gear system as well. The utility vehicle is a very important market segment and one which will have a huge impact on the petroleum and diesel usage in the US and other countries where this type of vehicle are popular (I.e. Australia)
  45. D

Does anyone have access to Tesla EPC or DIY Service site?

Tesla really should make manuals available for customers worldwide. Many customers have the will to self service, why get in the way? If you don't view SC's as a profit centre and they are bursting at the seems, you should be encouraging self-service as much as possible to relieve some demand.
  46. D

    What the heck!

Why? I see no reason why a Tesla employee that needs a utility vehicle shouldn't be driving what's available. At this stage there are no electric vehicles in that bracket so it will have to be an F truck or similar. Obviously once Tesla enters that market it's not a good look, but for now it's...
