Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

Random thinking aloud.... The model 3 has a combined MCU and AP3 computer (double board in a single module), could Tesla retro fit that and use existing MCU 1 as a dumb display terminal. A different software config, but no new hardware (just used in a different config).

Yes the entertainment system could do with some TLC...

    Neural Networks

Fantastic thread.... Probably the best way to look at this is to consider the new NN's have given AP2 a "new pair of glasses". It can see better, but is not making any new decisions nor is it recognising anything new. It's much much better at seeing what we thought it saw before, road markings...

    Early 75/75D pack degradation

We all focus on miles driven. Has anyone looked at other variables? What about average temperature? What about age? Would interesting to compare e.g. 6 year old 50k mile with 6 year old 300k

    Early 75/75D pack degradation

Blueprinting is literally making the components to the blueprint I.e the exact design rather than to a tolerance. (E.g. if a piston should weigh 10+/- 0.5 then a normal engine would have pistons weighing e.g. 10.5 10.2 9.8 9.5 and be in tolerance, a blueprinted engine would be 4 x 10 ). Has the...

Tesla Model 3 Battery Warranty Includes 70% Retention Guarantee

Interesting... if we go with 3 miles per kW/h, and battery life of 500-1000 cycles (Apple quote 500 cycles to 80%as warranty on their iPhone batteries which get much more abuse). So if you have a 1 kW/h battery it has a life of 3 x 500 - 3 x 1000 or 1500 - 3000 miles Multiply up 30 kW/h =...

Anyone know what happened to Brighouse? Are they still stuck in Wayleave hell? They've been finished but not connected for months now.

How soon will any Tesla drive itself, level 5?

Level 5... aka all roads all conditions >5 years. I think they probably get FSD on freeways/motorways etc (aka Level 4) in <5 years. That will mean you can ask the car to drive on freeway but you take over on local roads.... thats a big chunk of time in many long distance and a large number of...

Community help needed - Underground garage & wifi summon...

Hi, I have similar problems in a parking structure - good LTE but no GPS. I can confirm the car needs 1. Data connection WiFi or LTE 2. Phone connected to WiFi or LTE 3. Key fob within range 4. GPS location for both phone / car to be close to each other. Loose any one and Summon stops. I think...

What's your 6.0+ car name (if you are willing to share?)

Milkfloat - For those outside Britain it's a very early BEV.... top speed 20-25mph... I don't want the Tesla getting ideas above it's station in life. Milk float - Wikipedia

    Still waiting for Waypoints!

Navigon data is about 3 months out of date... I have a garmin GPS with lifetime updates that uses the same data. Typically 2 or 4 updates a year... I can tell roughly that they are about 3 months because of new road openings... Wheras the google maps on the main display are maybe 2 weeks old -...

Rumor: AP2 high speed firmware release on 2/24

So in ElonSpeak(™) - should be able to = 50% probability. Next Month = 31st March So 50% probability of TACC / EAP to 85mph by 31st March?

HW2: It's been a week. How many miles do you have on autosteer?

I've found it great in stop / start rush hour traffic - just following the car in front. Lines are very jittery at times but it seems to cope with the limited case. No blindspot, no traffic in other lanes - just following a car in the current lane. I assume they will add - traffic in other...

Autopilot for HW2 rolling out to all HW2 cars today!

Had about 30 mins in slow moving traffic (accident ahead)... once I got to 5mph (a real achievement!) I engaged auto steer. Really took the pressure of sitting in the slow moving traffic. Discovered it's pretty happy at 8-10mph with one hand holding the wheel at the 4pm position. Looking...

Driver's Door window "catches" or door open - is this normal?

Hi, Hopefully this makes sense... My new facelift driver's door catches when your open it... Immediately when you pull the handle the window drops slightly to allow it to come clear of seal but not quite enough so occasionally it "catches" and you can hear the window get stuck and then bounce...

Initial 1000 HW2 cars getting AP software 12/31/16

I also bought an inventory model with AP2. Didn't pay for the FSD capability... The way I see it 1. I got a fantastic car to begin with - enjoying just driving it and the whole electric car thing 2. In a few weeks I'll get an update to add enhanced autopilot - almost like getting another new...

Mobile Charging Connector - do you bring it with you?

Have a Tesla wall charger so the mobile charger lives in the Frunk.... I also have a Type 2 to type 2 connector (Europe) to allow charging on the road. (I live in a city that is offering free level 2 charging in many car parks so it's worth it).

    Firmware feature request

    Insuring a Tesla in UK

Got mine through LV. Just got my car on 30/12. funnily enough the previous cars was up for renewal 1/1/17... Price for BMW 523 was £458 and for Tesla S60 was £568. (Age 49, no claims, convictions, M33/WA3 postcodes). Got some crazy quotes up to £2500 (including Direct line??- which I know have...

Where would you like to see a new Supercharger?

Agreed - but you tend to "peal off" the main routes and head into the back country. E.g. I have friends in Darlington. No problem one way from Manchester but a return is too far ... and I'm on the limits doing Manchester->Darlington->Leeds Supercharger. If they move to where they want to go next...

Where would you like to see a new Supercharger?

M1 / A1(M) at 50 mile intervals from Northampton upwards e.g. derby/Nottingham area, Workshop/Sheffield, (Barnsley already there), Leeds east (i.e. M1 at Wetherby), Darlington etc... Also some east of A1 e.g. Doncaster. Finally M62 either Birch or Hartshead Moor plus Burtonwood. M6 Lancaster /...

    Just got the Tesla smile!

Took receipt of a UK inventory car on Friday the 30th. (Obviously wanted it before the 25th - but Santa was not forthcoming). The Tesla smile is here! I wanted the panorama roof (to fit roof bars) and version 2 Auto Pilot. The rest was largely irrelevant to me. (well at least less important)...
