All season tires that don’t cut range for a 2018 MX

Specifically they were the Scorpion A3s, though the Scorpion Weatheractives were also on sale at my local Discount Tyre/Tire.

All season tires that don’t cut range for a 2018 MX

AAAAARRRGGGHHH!!!!! Too late! I just got four new Pirelli Scorpions put on yesterday, at Discount Tire Store. I wish I had checked back here and seen your post first. Will have to wait another 30,000 miles. Thank you for your recommendation.

All season tires that don’t cut range for a 2018 MX

I’m thinking about going with the Pirelli Scorpion AS Plus 3s for our X100D, that rides on 20 inch rims. I hope I won’t regret doing so. My highest priority is low road/tyre noise. My second priority is maximising range. I don’t care that much how long they’ll last since I’d want to get rid...

Door Seal Wind Noise Kit for Model X - anybody try?

That’s a shame. And you’re right. Spent almost an hour installing these seals, no instructions provided, and they made no difference. The Model X out of the box is already a very loud vehicle. Above 25 mph the cabin drones and roars with a cacophony of creaks, rattles, road and wind noise...

    Charging Errors

I followed your advice last night and lowered amperage from the maximum of 72 amps to 68 amps. Car started on schedule (midnight), and completed the charge to my preset 80%. Worked like a charm! Thanks so much.

    Model 3 Road Noise

I’m wondering if your technique would work on a Model X. When I get home I’m thinking about pulling off the rocker panels and copying you. But I’d better have some silicone glue on hand before I start. It’ll be my luck that I’ll destroy all those clips.

    Model 3 Road Noise

Thank you for confirming my biases. After trying out different brands I ended with some variation of the Pirelli Cinturatos. Now all our Teslas, a Model S and two Model Xs are shod with Pirelli All Seasons of some kind. Not only are the Pirellis the quietest tyres I’ve ridden on, but...

    Tipping for PPF?

I’m about to face this situation myself. A few weeks ago I turned in my brand new Lucid Air GT to the same outfit who wrapped and coated our previous three Teslas. When I pick up my car the shop will have it for five days. Total bill for PPF, ceramic coating and tinting, $4900. Should I...

I just got it done, both half shafts. Approximately $1400 in San Diego CA.

Thank you for your response, Shawn. I appreciate it very much. Will add checking the central body controller to my list of things to be looked at on my upcoming service visit.

the automatic driver door is not opening when I approach the vehicle

Reviving an old reply here since this just happened to me. Got new batteries for both fobs. Don’t have the other fob on me right now to test. What’s the Central Body Controller? Thanks.

Ticking noise on acceleration and regen (not the single click or the acceleration shudder or the rocking chair creak)

Thanks for your update, and this time with good news! I listened to your video again. If ever I hear a sound like that in our Model X, I’ll know what it is. Thanks again.

Ticking noise on acceleration and regen (not the single click or the acceleration shudder or the rocking chair creak)

Unfortunately, it can be. Though I would have hoped that by now Tesla had gotten itself ahead of the spare parts curve. Our Model X100D was involved in a collision that almost totaled it. Fortunately none in my family were hurt. The other driver, the one at fault, was not so lucky. It took...

Ticking noise on acceleration and regen (not the single click or the acceleration shudder or the rocking chair creak)

The noise I’m hearing is not like yours in that its pitch and volume DO NOT vary with speed. There IS a humming, thrumming noise coming from the the area of the two front wheel wells, however. I just changed out the two front tyres, and the noise has quietened down but not gone away. The...

Ticking noise on acceleration and regen (not the single click or the acceleration shudder or the rocking chair creak)

Thank you for your posts. I’m attempting to track down a noise from our Model X100D too. Do post an update when your replacement DU is installed. I’m curious to know if that fixes the noise.

    Music streaming - Spotify alternatives

I wonder if it’s any good. It can’t be worse than what we had before - Slacker Radio. I think there was a total of five fans of that service worldwide. It was pretty awful.

Overnight Fire at Gruber Motors in Arizona

Playing armchair psychotherapist here - Pete Gruber may be a pathological narcissist, and suffers from macular degneration. Ergo the inability to reflect, and the need for wearing sunglasses even while indoors. Just a WAG and probably just as wildly off.

MASTER THREAD: FSD Subscription Available 16 Jul 2021

This, right here. I ended up going barrio and buying a cheap convex blind spot mirror from Autozone, for the driver’s side door mirror. Ugly as hell and tacky beyond belief, but it works. And like you said, the electronic blind spot monitoring/warning system on my old Honda Odyssey worked...

MASTER THREAD: FSD Subscription Available 16 Jul 2021

So our March 2017 build S75D came with AP2, with “EAP” - something that’s not even offered anymore - but no FSD. Less than a year ago, I had the MCU1 replaced with MCU2. From what I can tell on the app, if I subscribe to the so-called Full Self-Driving Capability, the only thing I will...

    Plaid+ CANCELLED

Good point! Let’s see - at 412 miles EPA rated range, that should give me a real world range of 280 plus miles. Decidedly better, and enough range to complete my 280 mile weekly commute to work without stopping to charge. My friends who own M3s of various configurations all remark very...

    Plaid+ CANCELLED

So. Now looking at the regular, ole, plain jane Model S Plaid. 390 miles EPA rated range. Translating from Elon-speak to real world ownership and real world driving of three Teslas, I’m estimating a real world range of 270 miles. Not bad, but is it worth the price of trading up, when our...
  31. avesraggiana

    Plaid+ CANCELLED

Yes, but the discrepancy between Tesla’s EPA estimates and real world driving range is still wider than that of Porsche, VW, Audi or just about any other EV manufacturer you can name. Those other automakers, though boasting lower rated range, come pretty close to their EPA estimates in real...

First Refreshed Model X Deliveries in July

Legion are the people who still think that Elon Musk is Jesus Christ returning. For all their shortcomings, and there are a few (no overhead grab handles, not much storage space, chintzy feeling interiors), I am enamoured of my Teslas, but I’m not enamoured of Elon Musk. Elon Musk can’t do...

    Model S Phone Mounts

I have the Jaronx thingy too. It's not completely satisfactory; as you said, nothing third party really is. I don't even use mine for my phone. I've just kept mine in my car, unused, because it would kill me to throw it away after having spent 19.99.

Supercharger - San Juan Capistrano, CA (7 V2 stalls)

Stopped here late last night, as I do about three time a month on my drive back to San Diego. This supercharger has become the rent-free, AirBNB for the local homeless population. One lady was asleep on the ground, with all her belongings strewn all around her such that one supercharger was...

Tesla Brand All Weather Interior Mats

Go with the 3D all-weathers. Much more attractive, better designed and better fitting than the Tesla-branded Weathertechs. I don't know how the latter could have screwed all weather rubber mats so badly. I removed the cheap fabric Tesla floor mats from our three vehicles (2 Model Xs and...

Hadn't thought about that, which is probably why no one has yet attempted it. Maybe I'll start conservatively and have just the front doors and the wheel wells done.
  40. avesraggiana

Scoob’s sound proofing before & after experiment...

Slight non sequitur. I'm actually waiting intently for a thread to start about someone doing a soundproofing project just like this, but in a Model X. I'm thinking that applying similar material just to all four door panels and the front wheel well area might make an appreciable difference...

    Help! Should I buy a model S??

I would wait. At least until a newer, reworked Model S is released. In the meantime I would work on building up a credit history so that such a large downpayment would no longer be required. The longer you wait, the better the Model S will be, and, assuming you start building a good...

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

Man, I thought I had a rough weekly commute. Mine is only 141 miles EACH WAY, for a total roundtrip of 282. My car also sits at work for anywhere from two to four days before I return, and loses 2% to 4% battery charge. I drive a March 2017 build S75D. It hasn’t been nerfed yet as far as I...

Slight non sequitur - these "noise reduction kits" for the Model 3 are ubiquitous on the internet. Have similar kits been made for the Model S and Model X? My Model X could definitely use any help in road and wind noise reduction.
