    Model S Software/Firmware wishlist

Challenge... accepted? UserVoice itself isn't free, so I hunted around for some other options. Have a look at this: Unofficial Tesla Feedback If this seems viable I'd happily admit other moderators or hand the reins over to TMC.

"Autopilot unavailable for remainder of drive"

Confirmed: acts as benign and simple as adjusting stereo volume (from the wheel) or pulling on the CC stalk will dismiss the "apply light force" warning. I'll try this out for a bit. I also got over myself a bit and raised the steering wheel a scoche, so that I can see at least some of the...

    Model S Software/Firmware wishlist

I wouldn't call that approach equivalent to uservoice. What you're describing is a shocking amount of work, which in theory is far more valuable than UV in concept, but only at one point in time, and if that time is right... the value erodes sharply from there. In contrast, user voice...

Sure would be nice to have all these ideas in uservoice so we could vote on them.

"Autopilot unavailable for remainder of drive"

I assume you mean it will dismiss the "please apply light force" alert in particular? It won't help with the problem that I sometimes don't notice the warnings to start with, but I might like a more deterministic form of input when I do.

"Autopilot unavailable for remainder of drive"

If "I switch hands frequently" and "does not require conscious effort" are both true, I think that means you have some practiced muscle memory that keeps you going even on straight roads with no lane changes... that would still require conscious effort until it becomes automatic. As I described...

"Autopilot unavailable for remainder of drive"

Maybe not disabled, but it could be maimed. I searched yesterday for the terms in "Autopilot unavailable for remainder of drive" and I got nothing. Today, I get exactly the posts in this thread. I couldn't think of a better way to zero in on the topic... how could a thread exist and not...

"Autopilot unavailable for remainder of drive"

Yes, it means torque. My wife told me she was kept squeezing the steering wheel and the warning never went away, I tried not to chuckle, which isn't fair because the car doesn't give great clues about what it means (at least now it uses the word "force" instead of "hold"). Things got a lot...

"Autopilot unavailable for remainder of drive"

In my experience the torque required to disengage (even in "take over immediately" scenarios) is significantly greater than the torque required to convince the car you're holding the wheel. Am I wrong about this? It's kind of annoying since it's usually the case that I've effectively already...

"Autopilot unavailable for remainder of drive"

I concede that my language was hyperbolous, but you did struggle to come up with an example that was relevant to EVs. Battery and tire pressure are relevant, but they really don't require frequent checks. Speed is relevant, but cruise control keeps me legal (well, within 20% of legal, anyway)...

"Autopilot unavailable for remainder of drive"

Whenever I see this infuriating alert, it makes me want to jump out of the car and let it drive itself into the ocean. This punitive alert appears when you "miss" multiple apply light force to steering wheel warnings -- the alert means you can't use autopilot until you next park the car. When...

    Voice commands often don't "take"

I seem to see more problems when transitioning from wifi to cellular, but it does eventually stabilize. A correlation with connection issues of some kind seems likely. When it fails, I find that the speech button doesn't always capture all of the audio. I get better results if I push the...

    Sudden Unexpected Acceleration today

My assessment: It's the driver's fault, but they can likely assign blame to a systemic flaw in human architecture. The manufacturer (of humans) offers zero customer support on these matters, however, so buyer beware. I have observed that I ride different pedals in my S than in any other car...

Rear Camera, Can it be kept clean?

I wash my car far less often than weekly. Does anyone else wash their car quasi-weekly and still see the camera get dirty a lot? The soil on the camera has to come from somewhere; one hypothesis is that the rest of the car is the primary source (whole car is dirt collector; aerodynamics +...

Rear Camera, Can it be kept clean?

@Snerruc / @Akikiki : How often do you guys wash your cars? Do you use a wax treatment? Clearly the trunk overhang isn't good enough protection for everyone (we all have the same trunk AFAIK), so if there are people who don't get dirty rear cameras there must be differences in either...

    AP2 / 8.1 : "Cruise Not Available"-AP intermittently not working in 17.11.{3,10} versions

I upgraded to 17.11.45 this morning. I took two drives, so far 0 for 2 on the AP features with the update; "Cruise unavailable" both times. I'm curious about this OTA option, so I'll be contact the service center.

Poll: Do your power folding mirrors work properly?

I had my mirror replaced about a month ago. Extension was working great for a few weeks. Then suddenly it stopped extending consistently again.

I Enjoy the Car, I Really Dislike Tesla the Car Company

I think it's debatable. Without real data, it's speculation as to whether one or the other of "perfect experiences" vs "bad experiences" are over-represented in forum posts. Negative experiences do tend to be overrepresented in prevalence in many forums, but brand loyalty can have the same...

    100D upgrade to 72amp charger?

I don't understand this hypothetical. If you're trying to get just enough juice to get home, and the superchargers are fully queued, where would you go to get your 60 minutes of 72 amp charge? This weekend I wound up using an 80 AMP public charge station, though I could only draw 48 AMP from...

    Tesla Wifi Sux

I had a terrible time getting my Model S connected to WiFi myself, it probably took a week of experimentation. I tried 5 different routers and countless physical configurations (including router antenna orientations). In the process I discovered some silly things, such as the fact that...

    8.1 HW2 Summon Issues

Disabling "Always pressed" made summon start working for me. Unfortunately, not too long after, the "Cruise not available" feature started working as well. I had been able to use autosteer and TACC for a week up until that point. Coincidence I'm sure.

Doing a brake job myself help please

I changed my own brake pads once, decades ago. Then I plowed into a Cherokee from behind when it stopped short and my stopping distance was... not as short. In my case it's because I misjudged whether the rotors needed to be turned, and I didn't turn them. I was dirt poor and mechanically...

Rear Camera, Can it be kept clean?

On most days, I can clean the camera with a cloth as I depart from home, and on the outset of my journey I have a crystal clear rear camera image. When I get to my destination 20 minutes later, it is dirty enough I can't use it again. If I have to drive in reverse when I get there, I often...

Poll: Do your power folding mirrors work properly?

According to a service rep I exchanged e-mail with, the Firmware for the mirror was issued specifically with 17.4.12. My car has 17.7.2. I think the service rep was confused because they said that just because it was in 17.4.12 does not mean that it was part of the later release 17.7.2, and my...

Poll: Do your power folding mirrors work properly?

My mirror was stuck again last night, on 17.7.2. We weren't told which build included the reported firmware fix, so it's hard to know whether the issue is still software or mechanical. I suppose I'll have to contact services again. I can still work around it by double-pressing the folding...

    About version numbers...

I should have stated: I'm a software engineer so I do know how version numbers work :). The fact that they changed the version/build labelling scheme explains 90% of my confusion, and now that I understand this I can finally make sense of the Tesla Firmware tracker app. The remaining...

Poll: Do your power folding mirrors work properly?

Missing an option: "No, and I continue to work around it by re-extending the mirrors myself". In my case I work around it by pressing the fold/extend button twice in succession.

Poll: Do your power folding mirrors work properly?

Having this issue since day 1, 2016/12/19. I have had problems as recently as a couple of days ago. I work around it by tapping the folding button twice in succession. If I time it right, it just starts to fold in, as it cancels that action and starts folding out again, this time fully...

    About version numbers...

What is the relationship between "7.0", "8.0" or "8.1" and "17.7.2" or "2.52.120"? These are very different numbers in different ranges... Are they on independent aspects of the system, or are they different ways of describing the version of the same whole firmware stack? Is there a...
