    Autonomous Car Progress

You did. If the car had crashed, you’d be legally responsible. If you had gone too fast, you’d be fined. Same thing as when a FSD or AP car crashes and Tesla says « Tesla is not responsible, it is very clear per the license agreement that the driver must remain attentive at all time and...

Will Mercedes jump to level 3 before Tesla? Looks like it.

You are right, I was wrong :) It is indeed only on highways and at low-speed, a not-too-exciting combination at this point

Will Mercedes jump to level 3 before Tesla? Looks like it.

My bad, I was wrong in thinking it was on city street, that effectively does reduce the appeal of it quite a bit...

Will Mercedes jump to level 3 before Tesla? Looks like it.

Contrary to some critics above, L3 up to 40mph is actually pretty good. It means you can get a decent L2 system (not worse than Tesla’s) on highways and other 80-90km/h roads, and switch to full L3 when you are in the city (where it is mostly limited to 50km/h anyway, that is, under 40mph)...

    Autonomous Car Progress

And that will run on 2016-2022 FSD cars, obviously… It is so convenient to be able to mean multiple different things when saying « FSD » :) One time it means robotaxis, one time it means L2, one time it means L3, it depends on what liability you face at any point in time essentially. Handy...

Michelin Pilot Sport EV: size issue?

Last year, Michelin announced the Pilot Sport EV, but they really only made it to market this year. Now, if I look at the 2017 model S tire size in 21’’, I’ve got this: Front: 245-35-21 Rear: 265-35-21 However, if I look at the sizes available on the Michelin website, it lists only in 255, 265...

    Tesla FSD/Autopilot under attack

Lots to unpack in this thread, from copyright law to proper use of NTSBHSASBH. But really, the core concept most people on this forum seem disagree over IMO is the legal vs. human aspect. Some are arguing that what Tesla is doing is legally right, that they didn’t promise anything, when they...

    OFFICIAL BUTTON WATCH

Except it is not the case: being available in the US (which it is far from being...), doesn't make it available in other geos for obvious different rules, regulatory and cultural reasons. But, hey, your angry bad boy self-centered style is still funny.

    OFFICIAL BUTTON WATCH

Well, I don’t quite care where you want to drive or not :) the point is that Tesla sold cars outside of the USA.

    OFFICIAL BUTTON WATCH

Yes, I get that, but because Waymo only operates today in specific locations doesn’t mean it cannot operate in other areas. We don’t know for sure why Waymo is not in multiple cities. One option, but just an option, is that, as you say, it is because they CANNOT drive in other cities and that...

    OFFICIAL BUTTON WATCH

This is merely an opinion. For what it’s worth, we don’t know what is required from Waymo to extend to other regions, this might just be a logistical decision. Or not. Similarly, until I see a Tesla FSD in the streets of busy Tel Aviv, circling the Arche in Paris or in the Irish narrow...

If you can't sleep in it, it is not self-driving

Actually, only some of it is related to regulations (such as the auto-lane changes on highways), but a lot of other features are either not working well or not implemented (round-abouts are legions here). So, getting it to work in the USA doesn’t automatically makes it work outside of the USA.

Rear camera gets fuzzy and purple when hot

LOL, yeah, I knew my title was slightly click-bait’ish - guilty as charged! As for temperatures in CH, it only gets hot where Tesla’s are, obviously! I went to the service-center today and they indeed changed the camera, I’ll wait for the next hot day to confirm it is fixed. Which might need...

Rear camera gets fuzzy and purple when hot

When my car stayed under the sun an is very hot, the rear camera gets all fuzzy and purple - but in other condition just works fine. This is an AP2/MCU1 that got upgraded to AP3/MCU2 a few quarters ago, any thoughts?

Did Tesla show it can get itself out of North America? Let me know when that happens :)

Prepaid service vs. Tesla’s recommended service positions

Thanks @PCMc, that’s really good. What I don’t get though is that it seemed as they were covering a lot more under those plans. If they do all of those things, the prepaid maintenance was worth it, if they don’t do any of those and merely check what you described, then it is certainly not worth...

Prepaid service vs. Tesla’s recommended service positions

I pre-paid for services on my early 2017 MS and never quite cared about what was being done or not to the car - I trusted Tesla to know how to do their job. This year, just before going on vacations, I looked at what was specifically advised by Tesla to do: Car Maintenance This document talks...

    Preventing hacking/stealing (OBD2, fob, etc.)

Nice, have you tried it with a Tesla? Are you happy about it?
  22. caligula666

    Preventing hacking/stealing (OBD2, fob, etc.)

What do you mean? Well, I know what you mean :) but are you talking about an easy to execute OBD2 type of device that can disable the PIN or are you talking about something more engaged, such as rooting the car, etc. ? Because, if that part is easy, then the key part is slightly irrelevant as...

    Preventing hacking/stealing (OBD2, fob, etc.)

Yes, thanks for the feedback. I should have made it clear: I’m interested to hear about hacking strategies that would be implemented in a few minutes (after which, unless your car was specifically targeted probably for other reasons, an average hacker would move on to another target). In Europe...

    Preventing hacking/stealing (OBD2, fob, etc.)

I read through multiple threads and articles on the Model S security and the various iterations it went through and I’d like to make sure my understanding is proper. First, there is the ability to clone a key fob. V1 keys are 40 bits and easy to clone. V2 keys are 80 bits and, while a previous...

Is Tesla closer than we think?

On « Tesla can do L2 anywhere unlike Waymo », I just want to add that you might want to test a Tesla in different countries before saying so. My tesla breaks when seeing traffic lights… for train tracks next to the road, can’t handle any roundabout which we have 10x more (at least) in Europe vs...
  27. caligula666

Is Tesla closer than we think?

What’s silly in this thread is the mix of « what we know/see » and « what we guess ». What we know as a fact is that Waymo has L4 with about 100k per disengagement. Making fun of the cone incident? Sure, but no real need as this will be counted against the 100k disengagement statistic, so focus...

Is Tesla closer than we think?

So, essentially, the two « guidelines » are: - Nothing Elon says matters when it comes to buying FSD, only your contract matters, we know Elon says things totally unrelated to what the reality of FSD is or is not at Tesla, so you are just plain stupid if you believe anything Elon says, AND - Did...

Is Tesla closer than we think?

This discussion thread is a great example of many discussions on this forum. It starts with a question on Tesla’s possible future achievements (or lack thereof), and it ends up in a « What about Hillary’s emails?!? » « what about Waymo?!? ». Now, I never interacted with a Waymo sales rep (if...

If I accidentally switch to neutral while driving, can I switch back to drive?

Reading this thread long after... But I feel the interpretation battle between what the law says vs. how a Tesla operates (doesn’t have gears, etc.) a bit silly since, if you read the Tesla Owner’s manual Table of Content, it lists the D-N-R-P functions in a chapter called... « Gears » :)...

Headlight doesn't shut down during power-off & no left signal!

Reboot it and make sure it goes to sleep, so don't go on your application of make sure you are not hooked to an API service (such as TeslaFI) that would prevents it to go to sleep. Once it wakes-up, it should be good.

Headlight doesn't shut down during power-off & no left signal!

So, I had seen reports of this getting fixed « overnight » somehow and I didn’t quite believe it. See here for example: 2020.48.26 update broke left turn signal Long story short, this afternoon I go drive my car and: left headlight Is off and left blinking works as expected, at the right...

Headlight doesn't shut down during power-off & no left signal!

That makes sense. What drove me towards a software issue is the über-close concomitance with the update and I then found reports online of people with similar problems after an update and a reboot was typically good enough to fix it. Also, I suspect a bunch of firmware have to be asynchronously...

Headlight doesn't shut down during power-off & no left signal!

This morning, I installed 2020.48.35.5. As I went to the car, the left headlight was switched on (parking mode I'd say) even though the car was still closed. I didn't really care as I thought it might just be a post-software-update glitch and moved on. As I then drove the car, I realized that...

    2020.48.35.5

The font is bigger, good, but the alignment of the speed information along with max speed, etc. Seems irregular and doesn’t look good. Also, maybe that’s a Swiss thing, but the speed limit number within the red circle is not aligned (too low and too left) and so looks pretty bad. Seems like a...

    Tire Pressure: Strange Warning

Dear All, I’m getting strange TPMS warning in my cars, see pic below. Why strange? Well, the pressure of the tires showing up in red can be sometimes lower (OK) but also *higher* than the pressure of the tires that are showing up as normal. Initially, I had only one of the two front tires...

Anyone do radio restore after MCU2 upgrade yet?

I forgot to follow-up on that thread but did on the EU-specific thread. I did the radio upgrade and ended up with FM + DAB+, works great. But I don’t have AM anymore which is fine as no radio in Switzerland emits in AM anymore (and FM will be switched off in 2024). But that might be different in...

Upgrade to MCU2 and AP HW3.0 [Europe]

Another change that I observed is that my MCU1-equiped car would not be able to maintain a stable connection to the wifi AP, hence impact its ability to download upgrades, etc. The stats were showing constant disconnects, etc. As soon as I parked with my now MCU2 car, it connected solidly to the...

Upgrade to MCU2 and AP HW3.0 [Europe]

So, I checked: the radio can receive *both* FM and DAB. The user interface is a bit awkward. Its goal is to "hide" any difference between FM and DAB, but in doing so, it makes it more confusing IMO. There is no AM though, which doesn't mean that there would not be an AM available in other...

Upgrade to MCU2 and AP HW3.0 [Europe]

;) So they openly told me about a month ago that they were first doing the AP3 upgrades solely ALONG MCU2. One way to understand this is that they’d rather have people pay for MCU2, but that wasn’t my perception: the way I understood it at that time is that this is the only thing they are ABLE...

Upgrade to MCU2 and AP HW3.0 [Europe]

Upgrade to MCU2 and AP HW3.0 [Europe]

Just got the install from AP2 to AP3, MCU1 to MCU2 and additional radio module done in Berne on a S90D from early 2017. All seems great. I still need to dig into the features but one thing that surprised me is that the radio module seems to be ADB only, or I didn’t see the FM selector yet. A...

Upgrade to MCU2 and AP HW3.0 [Europe]

Bern center in Switzerland told me that they first do AP3 updates for people upgrading to MCU2 at the same time. Unclear if it was just a way to prioritize things or because they didn’t have the AP3-MCU1 harness. Went there last week for another issue and they checked if they could do it on the...
