Independent garages to repair Model S?

Thanks! They are far from me but I will give them a call anyway for advice.

Independent garages to repair Model S?

I have a late 2016 Model S 75D that requires a new steering rack. I've been quoted £3800 by Tesla Service but I think I'd prefer to save money and source a used part if I can find a garage that are willing and capable to install it. I've checked the service manuals and replacing the rack...

2016 75D Throwing up lots of errors, won't engage drive

Yes thankfully I believe the drive train warranty is 100,000 miles or 5 years though I’ve not checked in a while, either way it will be covered. I’m more leaning towards something electrical, hopefully it won’t be too expensive to fix.

2016 75D Throwing up lots of errors, won't engage drive

I'm hoping someone out there can shed some light on this. As of this morning the car refuses to engage Drive and is throwing up a raft of errors including the following: Automatic Emergency Braking is disabled Power reduced - Service is required Acceleration and top speed reduced Traction...

Nav on Autopilot in the UK :-)

Yes this rule has ruined auto lane change. I tried it today and it aborted just after initiating a lane change because the 5 second limit had expired. The IC displayed a "lane change timed out" message or similar. How is this helping safety? I'm not sure I see any point in NoA apart from it...

    Software Update 2019.16.x

Agreed, no way will we get advanced summon in the EU for the foreseeable future. I tried NoA in the UK this morning. I noticed you have to use the indicator to confirm the lane change rather than the autopilot stalk that is used in the US. Seems clear that regulators here only allow a lane...

    AutoSteer nerfed in EU

I tried this update on some windy UK roads this afternoon. On some tighter curves the IC popped up an “Autopilot limited” message and the car decelerated but it did make the turns. I can’t quantify with numbers but my impression is the car only exceeded the steering limit when it entered...

    Software Update 2019.12.x

That does seem a bit on the low side, I assume your battery was warm? Looking at TeslaFI it looks like the 110kw is only good up to about 30% charge and from there tapers to about 98kw @ 45%.

    Software Update 2019.12.x

Getting 111kw on a 2016 75D with this firmware. Quite a nice bump.

    Just got 19.8.3 this morning...

I've noticed that Autopilot tracks vehicles in the outside lane to prevent undertaking on motorways. I've never noticed this in previous releases. Is this new? I came from 2018.50.x.

    Just got 19.8.3 this morning...

Thanks for checking. I'm not 100% sure whether this release has it in Europe or not, we will have to wait and see. I does depend on having the latest maps downloaded to the car too so its possible it could show up on your car at some point.
  12. T

    Just got 19.8.3 this morning...

Do you have EAP? I heard Europe was getting Navigate on Autopilot. Maybe us UK lot are getting left out.

Mobileye - Most Impressive Self Driving Demo Yet (CES 2019)

Agreed. If Tesla ever activates the Model 3 cabin camera as a driver attention monitor and gets rid of the torque nag, everyone on here would be thrilled. You can bet no one would have an issue with Tesla advertising it as hands free driving (and why should they as it is the truth, hands off but...

Anthony Levandowski beats Tesla's Elon Musk to first Auto Cross country (3k Miles, 0 disengagement)

I saw it as a demo of NOA level autonomy that was actually reliable enough to travel decent distances without intervention. I see that as being impressive given the current state of Autopilot. You assume Tesla has this nailed already but hasn’t shown it to us. I don’t have that level of faith in...

Anthony Levandowski beats Tesla's Elon Musk to first Auto Cross country (3k Miles, 0 disengagement)

I agree you can’t compare a demo with production hardware/software, however Tesla haven’t even demo’d something as impressive as this cross country drive let alone released something capable of doing it. I suppose they could be keeping quiet then unleash something truly amazing out of nowhere...

Anthony Levandowski beats Tesla's Elon Musk to first Auto Cross country (3k Miles, 0 disengagement)

I suspect if Tesla had *anything* that could complete a coast to coast in a similar fashion to Levandowski, gamed or not, they would be showcasing it as a demo of what is to come from EAP in the near future. Their silence on their current capability speaks volumes to me.
  17. T

Anthony Levandowski beats Tesla's Elon Musk to first Auto Cross country (3k Miles, 0 disengagement)

I stand corrected. Still find it difficult to imagine a Tesla coming anywhere near that with the current firmware.
  18. T

Anthony Levandowski beats Tesla's Elon Musk to first Auto Cross country (3k Miles, 0 disengagement)

Well I’m no stats expert but I’ve driven tens of thousands of miles on autopilot and I’d say my average forced disengagement rate is about once every 50 miles. That’s on a sample size of about 20,000 autopilot miles. That’s enough data for me to know to a decent confidence that it would take...
  19. T

Anthony Levandowski beats Tesla's Elon Musk to first Auto Cross country (3k Miles, 0 disengagement)

For those saying this is no better than Autopilot, how many miles do you think Autopilot can do without a disengagement? In my experience it’s biggest failing on a highway is its lack of inference on the intent of other drivers. This results in Autopilot being too late to react to obvious...

    V9 in the UK - 2018.42.2

I’ve been waiting to see if V9 might trigger the new nav but I’ve had V9 a few days and nothing so far. Oh well! I’ll raise it when it’s in for annual service next. Tesla’s roll out strategy is a mystery to me.
  21. T

    V9 in the UK - 2018.42.2

Nope not had anything replaced. I hear the routing is significantly better in the new nav which would be welcome as I find the current one virtually useless. I end up using Google Maps on my phone.
  22. T

    V9 in the UK - 2018.42.2

Not strictly related to V9 but are there still plenty of us in the UK with the old navigation maps on the instrument cluster? I never have received the new maps despite having the car on WiFi. Anyone else in the same boat?

AP 3.0: Upgrade from AP 2.0/2.5.

I'm not a lawyer but as I understand it, in order to successfully sue you need to demonstrate a loss. If you haven't bought the FSD upgrade you have experienced no loss regardless of what computer is in the car.

    Software Update 2018.21.9 75bdbc11

Had something interesting happen this morning. I was driving on a local road at 35mph. A pedestrian was crossing the road around 60m ahead of me and was moving slowly enough that I needed to brake mildly to give him room. The car made two low pitched beeps, applied the brakes on its own and...
  25. T

    Software Update 2018.21.9 75bdbc11

That was my experience too. The car seems more likely to swerve towards side streets when the white line temporarily disappears. 10.4 did the odd twitch of the wheel in these situations, but this release is far worse. Strange as I thought the NN was the same as 10.4.
  26. T

    Software Update 2018.21.9 75bdbc11

On local roads this build seems more susceptible to dive for side streets. I've had this happen 4 times today on my morning commute which I'm thinking is too much to be a coincidence. I'd strongly recommend keeping hands on the wheel. Aside from that Autosteer seems about the same as previous...

    Software Update 2018.21.9 75bdbc11

I just installed 21.9. My release notes had the adjacent lanes but not the slowing down for off ramps. I’m in the UK. I guess the maps for that feature aren’t ready here yet.

    Software Update 2018.21.9 75bdbc11

Just had a Software Update notification, installing it now. Maybe I’m going to be at the cutting edge on this one!

    2018.21 0fa48d9

You’re right. If I’d driven 30,000 incident free miles on AP I can imagine complacency creeping in. The system could still be significantly less safe than a human driver at that point. This will be a bigger problem for people that are first exposed to AP when it’s more mature and the error rate...
  30. T

    2018.21 0fa48d9

Agreed. The truth is that none of us know the failure rate of AP in ideal conditions on a divided highway. No single person can experience enough autopilot miles to know how safe it really is. Safety can only be demonstrated by looking at millions of miles of driving data comparing hands free...

    2018.21 0fa48d9

Do you think this change is specific to 2018.21 or could it be that the ADAS tiles have updated for the roads you're driving on and would see the same on earlier firmware?
  32. T

    2018.21 0fa48d9

I wonder to what extent they can use the ultrasonics to validate the camera based blind spot recognition. Can they use them to measure the false negatives from the cameras to gain confidence before deploying EAP auto lane change?
  33. T

    2018.21 0fa48d9

The explanation that the truck was still in the FOV of the main camera while the rear of the truck was passing by the vehicle explains why it appears to track differently. Makes sense to me though disappointing that it looks as if we still have a way to go before EAP is delivered. I'm confused...

    2018.21 0fa48d9

Interesting that this video doesn’t show tracking the adjacent vehicles towards the rear of the car like the video posted by @AllSeeingEye earlier. I wonder why the difference. The 2018.5/7 betas were in the run up to the big NN change in 10.4. Now we have a new beta with seemingly...
  35. T

    2018.21 0fa48d9

I didn't realise the repeaters were still not calibrated, that does indicate it's just using ultrasonics which is disappointing. In that case they've spent time between 2018.5 and 2018.21 refining the ultrasonics for displaying adjacent vehicles. I wonder why that is since we all assumed the...
  36. T

    2018.21 0fa48d9

If this is 2018.21 then the adjacent lane tracking differs from what we saw in 2018.5. The previous betas only tracked the vehicles while they were in the FOV of the front cameras. I think BigD0g posted a video demonstrating this in the Autopilot Maps thread. Could it be that the newest beta is...
  37. T

    Software Update 2018.10.4

The beta shows vehicles in adjacent lanes doesn’t it? Just tried and 10.4 still doesn’t do this unless you initiate a lane change.
  38. T

    Software Update 2018.10.4

Just to follow up on this, I'm pretty sure this release has the new NN, it seems an improvement in every way over 2018.6. On my morning commute I've noticed: - Recognition of extremely wide lanes so the car no longer hunts from left to right as a lane widens - Cresting hills no longer causes...
  39. T

    Software Update 2018.10.4

First impressions for me is that AP is definitely improved. Going over a hump in the road previously threw the steering left or right. On this release AP didn’t even flinch. I will test more.

Musk: All modes AP by end 2019

Interesting...can Toolbox download and install beta builds for you or do you have to source the firmware elsewhere then use Toolbox to install it on the car?

    2017.50.3.f3425a1 is out!

I should have been more clear that in my case it was raining fairly heavily but it was as if the cameras could not see the raindrops unless they were lit up by the light from oncoming traffic. I can see what you’re saying though, perhaps the sudden change in brightness triggered a false positive...

    2017.50.3.f3425a1 is out!

The first part of my commute this morning was along a dark country lane with no streetlights. The autowipers did not really activate on either setting however light from oncoming traffic triggered them straight away. I'd say this initial release does not work well in the dark, sure it will get...

    Tesla Autopilot maps

Would love for this to be true but there was a rumour of auto lane change months ago that turned out to be just some random autopilot behaviour. However since this is coming from @verygreen I’m sure everyone will take the possibility seriously (even if it came from a friend).

Are the B-pillar cameras heated (S/X)?

I’m Vin 168xxx Nov 16. Smart preconditioning is off, always connected on, energy saving off, firmware 2017.50.2. It does seem that some heating of the B pillar is occurring though less dramatic than in the model 3. I’d say there’s a good chance it would be enough to stop any ice/snow from...

Are the B-pillar cameras heated (S/X)?

Woke up to snow this morning. Car had been parked overnight, plugged in. Snow seems to have cleared somewhat around both B pillar cameras. I was impressed with the tri cam though, check out the pic!

75 and 75D variants increased performance from July 1st - software and hardware improvements?

I've been told by two service centres in the UK (Leeds and Manchester) that my 168XXX VIN 75D is not eligible to be uncorked. Not sure if they're unaware of the recent change in policy or not.

    Uncorking 75Ds in the UK

I've called Leeds and Manchester service today enquiring about by 168XXX VIN 75D. Both told me I was not eligible. I'm not convinced they are aware of the change in eligibility. Does anyone know if they need to check a different system to the one they generally use to check for uncorking?

    HW2.5 capabilities

There are two things I think we can say with some certainty. 1) Tesla will not have the resources to drive two separate FSD development programs, one for AP2 and another for 2.5. Getting FSD working on one platform is a gargantuan challenge as it is. 2) Tesla cannot stop developing AP2 FSD...

Why Model 3 is the better car than Model S

Do you really believe the interior camera will remain a unique feature of the Model 3?
