Any Hardcore Car Enthusiast Out Here? I Have Questions About Going to Model 3

    We had 5 BMW’s before our Model 3 - 2-7’s, 2-5’s and a 3 series. We’ve had the Model 3 since March 2018, and we’ll never go back.

Cautionary Tale FSD Computer Upgrade to 3.0

Our VIN is extremely close to 10,000 and we got the car in March 2018. We had no issues upgrading.

Thanks for the info. I’ll try it. Not sure why they have car stereo and speaker for options. 🤔

We’re having the same problem. It started with the Christmas software update and I haven’t been able resolve it. We have an end of warranty appointment this week, and plan to ask if they have a solution.

2017-2020 Model 3 recalled for trunk/rear camera issue

As of 12:30 PST on 12/30/21, I don’t believe the site has been updated. Our car is one of the first 10,000 Model 3’s, from early ‘18 and recall is not yet indicated.

    Wipers randomly turn on

Anyone else have their windshield wipers randomly swipe with no moisture? Ours did it about 6 times in a 12 mile trip. Just one swipe each time.

    118 sentry events

My husband works a lot in the garage, around the car. His anecdotal impression was that he was draining the battery, so he turned off sentry for that location. You don’t think that was accurate?

    118 sentry events

We saw John Legend at the Greek Theatre in LA last night. Cars are parked on the grounds of Griffith Park, without much structure. in about 3 hours, the car recorded 118 sentry events! I didn’t look at my range when I got out, but assume that there was significant drain in that short time. And...

12V battery replacement [by tesla mobile service]

Our 3 1/2 year old Model 3 got a notification for battery replacement, so we made an app appointment for service, which was 6 days away. The mobile service took less than 10 minutes and it was free. We are thrilled.

Where to mount candy bar style fastrak transponder in M3?

Clean air stickers are for solo drivers being allowed in carpool lanes. Fastrak is for specific sections of freeway or bridges that charge for access. The transponder is a pre-paid account for those tolls. For example, the 110 freeway near downtown LA has fastrak lanes, which requires pre-payment.

No test drive until 3rd week of July?

For those of us who stood in line for hours on March 31, 2016 to plunk down $1,000 for a car we had never seen, only to get the car 2 years later without ever sitting in one, I can only say - have patience. It’s worth the wait.

Is there a limit to how many times I can use roadside assistance?

$80 to repair a flat tire. If they can’t do it right away, they give you a loaner tire until it can be replaced or repaired. Excellent service.

    Flat tire on road trip

It was a slow leak while parked, so there were no notifications until we drove. We have done thousands of miles in road trips, with this being the only problem, but we’ll probably get some sort of tire repair kit for future issues. We have all other emergency supplies and AAA.

    Flat tire on road trip

We were in the Napa area at a relative’s home when we discovered our flat tire. Ordinarily, my husband would have pulled the tire and taken it in for repair or replacement, but we were 400 miles from home with no tools. We called roadside assistance, who could get a loaner tire to us that day...

Best way to keep heat from coming through the sunroof?

Southern California here. We put the Tesla shades on around the end of June, and remove them in late September. They work great and only take a minute to install or take out. I appreciate the cases that store them.

Question for those in sunny/warmer climates! (glass roof)

Southern California here. We bought the Tesla sunscreens for the front and back roof. We only really need them when we are on long trips. They are really easy to install, and fold into their own case. We put them on in about May and remove in October. The screens cut down the glare and probably...

Car died 1200 miles from home... ugh

My BMW's transmission went out 400 miles from home. My VW's radiator failed 1,200 miles from home. My cousin's corvette broke an axle 500 miles from home. All of these incidents were a major hassle, but I can't imagine requesting renumeration from any of those companies, beyond the actual...

Shout out to SJV Tesla Owners Club

We drove down the 5 yesterday, and stopped at the new Supercharger in Patterson, CA. Share your positive Tesla Service experience

We've had our car for 2 1/2 years. The car has been excellent, so we only took it in for the FSD HW upgrade when it became available. We took it to Buena Park, CA SC during COVID. Everyone took great focus on safety, which we appreciated. It went in at 8:30 AM, and was ready by the end of...

I got a HW 3.0 upgrade last week and had an identical experience to jjrandorin. I went to the Buena Park SC, and everything was handled beautifully. Final FSD Update - Change of HD 2.5 to HD 3.0.

We had ours done today. We dropped it of at 8:30, and it was done by 4:00. I only drove it home, but there is a big difference in the braking. Essentially, it’s just one pedal now. I’ll spend more time looking it over tomorrow.

Long term(ish) Model 3 owners, how reliable has the car been to you?

March 2018 delivery, with 21,000 miles and at least 7 road trips of 1,000+ miles. We’ve had zero issues. The car has been incredible. (Knocking on wood now.)

This is a huge stretch, but they usually apply to infrequently used components. For example, the center console is huge, so almost nothing resides in the glove compartment. On the rare occasion that I open it, I have to remember where to access it on the screen.

Our car was delivered 2 years ago today and almost exactly 4 years from our March 31, 2016 order date. It has been nothing less than extraordinary in the time we’ve had it. Our range anxiety immediately evaporated when we took a trip right after we got it. Superchargers are easy to find and...
