    DAB is here

I have a model S from mid 2017 and have the latest update 2020.36.16. I don't see any DAB channels. I can understand that Tesla doesn't want to bother with AM any more, within 5 years there will probably be no more transmitters, but FM is still a dominant medium for music (at low quality) and...

Another front suspension control arm failure

To me it looks like a design fault. That little bit of metal might be enough if it's made of titanium, but aluminium alloys, I think not. We have some rough roads and while I take them at low speed I don't like the look of it.

    Tesla ruined it

We're all crazy, isn't that great. I'm enjoying it.

    A Fart Toy. Seriously?

Seems it would be an easy SW fix, I'll subscribe to that one, but on the fart scene, it's saved me from interior seat damage on a long trip with a bored toddler so I'm not complaining that they've done it. I may not be under 11 but my passengers sometimes are.

Model 3 Accident, Is this car really safe to drive?

Airbags are deployed only in those situations where the the collision is detected early enough to ensure they don't crack your skull, ie you haven't moved too far towards the steering wheel at the time the deployment is decided. They also won't deploy if the vehicle is sufficiently decelerated...

Autopilot Still in Beta? Edmund's Review

I have an MS75D without advanced auto pilot and self driving and mine tried to steer me into a car I was overtaking. Mine also gives lane departure warnings sometimes while crossing a line even though I have my indicators on. There are a few quirks in there, and I'm not prepared to put my life...

    General Discussion: 2018 Investor Roundtable

GM, VW Volvo Audi and BMW are all talking about massive EV manufacturing. Where is their Gigafactory? I don't think anyone in the world can compete with Tesla at the moment on high range EV's

Cabin noise comparison: 12/2017 Model S vs 1/2018 Model 3

I've used some android equivalent on a Samsung S8 in my model S75D and found that the body has a distinct resonance at around 70Hz which is amongst the lowest I've measured on various cars. They were resurfacing the freeway on my way to work and had dimpled the surface to improve adhesion. Well...

    Sudden Unintended Acceleration

I write embedded SW for a living. imagine Tesla has a bug where an errant routine decides to write a new value into the throttle position register/buffer. The car will put that into the telemetry buffer because it can't tell the difference between an actual throttle press and one that was placed...

    Tesla moments

I'm not dyslexic but use patterns exclusively when navigating a GUI. It's way more efficient. It's driven me to convert Win7 to look exactly like XP and I have icons arranged consistently on my PC and different but also consistently on my phone. By doing things this way I can navigate the...

Still worth getting a Model 3 if Electricity costs more than Gas?

A proper schedule maintenance is going to be more on an ICE vehicle because it's based on km's more so than time. An EV really only needs an annual checkup. You can also save by going to a competent mechanic outside Tesla as I think their SC charges are a bit higher than should be

Exactly How Strong is the Regen?

We have a 550m high hill near our place that has lovely winding roads though beautiful country. The road to the top is about 30km. I drove up there and noted that my average usage was around 240whr per km. After a a nice coffee at the top I drove back down the same way. The total trip average...

Exactly How Strong is the Regen?

You already have a continuous setting, it's called the accelerator pedal. Back off slowly and get very little regen, back off fast and you get a lot.

TACC/Autopilot discussion moved from general thread

I have a model S without AP and the other day I did a lane change to pass a vehicle going maybe 10kph below the speed limit. I got to 1/4 way past and the steering was yanked in the direction of the vehicle seemingly because it thought I was going to hit the raised curb on the side of the lane...

    General Discussion: 2018 Investor Roundtable

No indication of why/how this happened and what speeds were involved. If the impact was <30mph into that pole then I would expect no cabin damage. More amazing is 65mph into the back of a stationary fire truck and the occupants are unhurt. .

Exactly How Strong is the Regen?

All you need to do is not take your foot off the accelerator completely, and then you can adjust regen continuously between maximum and zero. Remember it's a linear control not a switch. I have maximum regen set but control the amount with accelerator all the time and almost never need brakes...

Anheuser-Busch Ordered 40 Tesla Semi Trucks

The question has to be how many of their truck fleet is replaced each year due to wear out etc. If it's on average 50 then this is definitely not a test.

Updated 100D Performance tests and Chill Mode

Sorry to disappoint you, but the acceleration performance is not just a matter of SW. There are issues with internal resistance of the battery that changes with capacity. Only Tesla can tell you the exact difference, but try this with a pen-lite battery (AA size) place a 20A current meter across...

    Uncork Impact on Efficiency?

Is that a Tesla granny or a regular granny? I'm inclined to agree with you, the physics of power loss dictate efficiency. Tyres will likely suffer a little as well when you use the grunt. That said, more interesting would be if you frequently avail yourself of the additional grunt, whether...

75 and 75D variants increased performance from July 1st - software and hardware improvements?

It all depends on whether it has a 75kWh battery or only 60kWh. They would have used all the 60kWh packs before switching to 75kWh. You can't uncork a screw top bottle. With the performance additions it depends on whether the new HW went into the car or not when yours was built. Logic dictates...

    POLL - Glass Roof

I think you mean you were surprised, not shocked. Tesla uses glass with a metallisation layer that dramatically reduced heat ingress (IR) which means additional tinting is a waste of money. All normal glass is a good barrier against UV, in fact it takes extra effort to make glass that can pass...

What's the record for longest service/loaner period?

I'm usually a pretty patient person, but if I gave my $143,000 car to Tesla and I got it back like this I'd be going through consumer affairs and getting a new one.

    New Service Experience

I've found Tesla Service somewhat unresponsive here in Oz, don't get me wrong, once they've acknowledge you things move and they are of course very polite and they give you a loner etc. but it took 3 or 4 emails over a few days for them to decide "ok lets see your car" and that was > 3 weeks ago...

Blog I Like Big Batteries And I Cannot Lie

I'm not sure I entirely agree, I live in Australia and would have liked to have a 100kW version but the price was prohibitive, but I've lived in Germany and I would imagine for most people 40kW would be sufficient. My sister for example used to have an old Mazda and the longest trip she ever did...

Vendor Tesla Model S Bodykit Aerokit by Prior Design PD-S1000 EVS Motors

Consider that with an EV and the currently relatively limited charging infrastructure losing 5% in range is a bit much to handle. If your product improves performance, a P100D currently does 0-100 in around 2.3 seconds, and given this is incredibly close to the theoretical limit, I'm guessing...

    75D Steering

Sports mode by its very definition should have precise control and road feel. If you can't feel the road you have no real idea of how much adhesion you have, quite crucial in such a powerful car I would have thought. I haven't taken delivery of my MS yet (~2 months) but I hope they resolve this...
