Suspected repeater camera defect that affects FSD performance

Does anyone know if this issue is related to the mysterious error message "Auto park unavailable" that I get in my MX from time to time. It only seems to happen when there is bright sun on the side of the car. I am guessing the error is due to the repeater being blinded. And yes, the message...

When getting in your car, you should always walk around the back and give the backup camera lens a swipe with your thumb. See the owner's manual, pg 106. :-)

Cancelled my MS order out of frustration

Maybe it depends where you are. I am in Portland, and the delivery and service here have been outstanding. MS in 2017, MX 5 months ago. Customer service has always been good, and the service center has been as well. That said, it would indeed be lovely if the service were good everywhere.

Possible. What do you think the HW3 hardware lacks that it needs?

POLL: When will "Quantum Leap" FSD be released to the HW3 fleet?

Never is quite a long time. 30 years ago the cars we have were the stuff of science fiction. Of course, maybe by 'never', we mean 10 years. And there you have it. 10 years is the new never.

    SpaceX Internet Satellite Network: Starlink

That may depend on your situation. If you have no internet service at all at your location, you might think it was fantastic. My understanding is that they are focusing on rural remote subscribers for now.

    A Couple of Suggestions:

I'm not sure this will work so well. The rear camera is mounted low near the license plate, but the forward facing camera is up high, not so far from where your eyes are.

    2019.28.1

I just got this release a few minutes ago. What is notable about it for me, is that I was in the first 0.6% of people on Teslafi to get it. My previous earliest release was somewhere in the low 20%s. I do have the box checked saying I want releases early. Is it possible this is now actually...

    Understanding my power consumption

Cabin overheat protection prevents the car from sleeping much of the time. We had it on recently and the car would wake up for about 45 minutes every two hours. I assume this is to check cabin temperature, and it seems to do this even at night. We turned it off and vampire drain went way down...

The new FSD computer vs HW2.0/2.5 with ONLY AP or EAP

My best guess is that the situation is as follows. Of course I know nothing, but that has never stopped me before. 1) Tesla is training a new neural net that includes support for lots of new FSD features. This was demoed on Autonomy Day, but has not yet been released to the field. This new net...

    2019.12.1 update

The new faster supercharging is great. But I'm wondering what will happen on old superchargers that are still paired. Now the first car will be able to use most of the available juice for most of its charging time. This will be annoying at busy superchargers if you are the second arrival. I...

Autonomy Investor Day - April 22 at 2pm ET

Don't forget that Tesla will be taking some portion of the revenue for any privately held car that is operating as a Robotaxi. So they get a fleet of cars generating revenue without additional capitol costs for the car. So they can sell the car, make some modest profit on the sale, and then...

Electric Car Holy Grail: The Facts Show No One Can Top Tesla

We bought our Model S about three years ago. Since that time a number of new features have been added to the car that did not exist, and were not being discussed when we bought it. Other features have dramatically improved over that period of time. (To be fair some of the improvement was sorely...

2500 mile round trip AWD ... findings

We've taken our Model S on a number of road trips, mostly from Portland to the San Francisco area. Sometimes we've done it in one day, sometimes in two days. For us the differences between driving in an ICE and our MS almost all favor the Tesla. We have come to view charging stops as nice...

    Software Update 2019.12.x

Maybe someone with more detailed knowledge can chime in here, but I thought that the reason dashcam was not available on AP2 hardware was due to the absence of redundancy (primarily wiring, but maybe also processor?) that prevented it running in parallel with vehicle operation. That made me hope...

How about have Elon's voice for navigation instead of the current woman.

Even better, how about being able to select the voice style. Abusive, seductive, amused, or standard, in male or female. Don't you want your car to be able to say "Turn right on MacDonald Ave, and don't miss it like last time, you moron!" I do. At least for a day. Sure it sounds frivolous...

    Autopilot bug with lane change

I'm not interested in getting involved with a detailed discussion about what a lot of different partially conflicting pieces of text really mean. But it's obvious that there is confusion over what each of these packages contain, and it seems to me that Tesla could avoid a lot of problems here if...

    Auto Windshield wipers are Junk

I have noticed a significant improvement recently, although I would not call it good yet, and I can't pinpoint what software versions caused the improvement. What I notice now is slightly more prompt removal of low levels of water on the windshield, and better handling of really bad conditions...

Tesla drivers are safer than Tesla autopilot.

It seems clear that we don't really know why Autopilot helps or hurts overall safety. We each probably have a sense about how using Autopilot affects safety, but we have no obvious way to know if our sense is correct or not. One reason for this is that Autopilot may be safer under some...

    Software Update 2018.42.x

    Software Update 2018.42.x

Only a few species recognize themselves in a mirror. Humans, gorillas, orangutans, elephants, maybe some cetaceans. The rest do not. It seems the Tesla will need to evolve more before reaching this level of sentience.

Missed the memo? Slow supercharging close to home?

A note for people who don't already know ... The tapered charging rate is why you can reduce charging time on a trip by limiting each charge to just enough to get to the next supercharger with enough safety margin. The car's default for telling you how long to charge and when you have enough...

    AP1/AP2 comparison

I've owned an AP2 Model S since May of 2017, and have experienced the evolution of AP2 from drunk teen aged driver to better than I am on the highway, as long as nothing unusual happens. A week ago my car was in the shop for several days and I was given an AP1 P90D loaner (lovely car). So I...

Avoiding the curb when parking head-in without Air Suspension

Our Model S does not have air suspension. When we are parking head in, the ultrasonics do not detect curbs high enough for us to hit or scrape on. And for some reason, perhaps related to the nosecone on the front, it's pretty difficult to estimate when we might hit the curb. We've scraped the...

How to tell if EAP is using brakes?

I think I can tell when the mechanical brakes are applied because there always seems to be a detectable 'bump' when they get applied. It seems to me that regen is very smooth. When slowing calmly (like for a lower speed turn) the deceleration seems smooth. But on those rare occasions where...

    Identifying the correct driver

My wife and I both drive our Model S, and we've noticed an issue with driver identification when one of us approaches the passenger door carrying a key before the driver approaches the driver's door. It seems that when this happens, the car assumes the passenger is the driver and selects that...

    Lane placement improvements are needed

I have an AP-2 model S that I got last May, and have lived through the evolution of AP-2 from the era when it would immediately make everyone in the car nervous, to the current state of affairs (17.44 for me) where after some period of time it makes my wife nervous. Of course, full disclosure...

Will L5 FSD be possible with Model 3's AP 2.5 hardware?

Wouldn't it be in Nvidia's marketing interest to assert that their new hardware will be needed? And what do they mean by 'Full autonomy'? Do they mean level 5? There is a lot of loose terminology floating around, and people seem to use variations to strengthen their arguments. Tesla uses the...

    Stupid question alert!

Here you see the result of not buying gas anymore. I'm unclear on the price! It's actually about $2.75. And yeah, it's only that low because our national policies are more affected by money than common sense.

    Stupid question alert!

Probably you aren't going to get the price of the car to zero by driving 250k miles, but it will be the MOST FUN you've ever had driving that far before!
  45. R

    Stupid question alert!

Not a dumb question. Probably you will not run your battery below 10% regularly, and you shouldn't if you can help it. And probably you won't regularly charge to over 90%, and you probably shouldn't, if you can help it. But your entire battery capacity is 75KWh, yes. So 9.38 * 0.8 = ~ 7.5...

    Adaptive Cruise Control (TACC) Annoyance

I see behavior like you describe as well. It happens even when the further obstacle is MUCH less than 160 meters ahead. I believe it is a limitation of the control algorithm, and that they have a little more work to do on that. :-) It appears to see that the car it is following has left the...

    Questions about Software limited batteries

I have a 2017 MS 60D, and have some questions about how software limiting the battery is done, and what it really means.. 1) Since the battery is actually a 75, how is the capacity reduced? I have heard two different stories about this. One, that a module is 'turned off', and that they do...
