Tesla Solar in Houston & Surrounding Area’s

I have 2 PW2s and go from 100 to ~40-10 most days by the time free nights kick in. One PW was actually replaced about a year in. Original PW (~3 yr), Capacity 12.3 kWh and 20 MWh charge/discharge total. Newer PW (~2 yrs), Capacity 13.5 kWh and 15 MWh charge/discharge total.

Tesla Solar in Houston & Surrounding Area’s

Took a quick look at all my bills and usage Energy Charges - This matches SMT's billing usage. It's the last day of the cycle's reading (rounded) minus the first day (rounded) Nights free credit - Can't figure it out, but this number has been higher than Energy Charges all but one month, so...

Tesla Solar in Houston & Surrounding Area’s

Yeah, each bill doesn't match my calculations, but the mismatch has gone both ways. But so far, cumulatively, it's pretty close to my estimate. Since I started with $100 credit, I may never pay them a penny. I currently track to net $2 each week before I stop selling back to the grid. This...

In the 0% reserve club... Had to pull ~11 kwh from the grid on Sunday before the free nights started. Now need to put ~100 kwh back into the next couple weeks to zero out the bill.

One should be mine... finally got my first bill. But the free night credit kwh was more than the total energy kwh 🤷‍♂️

For additional info, solar was initially sized for ~66% offset. But my current lifetime generation is 32MWh and 70MWh imported from grid.

Tesla Solar in Houston & Surrounding Area’s

I've been on free nights for 10+ years, EV(s) for the past ~6, and solar/pw for past ~2 (grid charging past ~6 months). I don't think I've yet to have an "uneconomical" month. Since going solar/pw, I have <10 days where I use more than 4 kWh peak (~$1) and I would attribute all of them to...

Tesla Solar in Houston & Surrounding Area’s

For those with Just Energy or Amigo, how long did the first bill take? I'm now 9 days past the first reading and still no bill. Mainly trying to see if I'm getting credits for generation yet. (The last payment date is always the current date so was hoping that's a sign of the generation credit)

    Deliveries of $80k X?

They do have access to something. I was with a SA having them check on an inventory VIN to see if it was a "reject" or not. They were very quick on that tab and even moved the laptop out of my view.

    Deliveries of $80k X?

    The "sale" occurs in Fremont.

Vendor My Tesla Remote - A 3rd party remote that doesn't ask for your credentials

+1 on using bluetooth on the phone too, could be a work around if this is easier to implement than 2 cars on 1 watch. Mainly want to be able to let other family members have "keys" to the car without giving them app access.

Tesla Vehicle Charging with PV+PW [and no grid]

I just wish there was a way to dump excess (once PW is full) to the car rather than back to the grid.

Powerwall 2 + UPS Connundrum - and solution

Didn't notice this before, but you may be able to verify the override in the api. https://teg/api/site_info now has this "grid_code_overrides": [ { "name": "soc_freq_droop_config_df_max", "value": 2.5 } ]

Powerwall 2 + UPS Connundrum - and solution

I confirmed by API, but you will also know when you don't hear all the UPS beeping. The only way to test is by having a full PW and killing the grid.

Powerwall 2 + UPS Connundrum - and solution

I submitted through the app and they came back asking for model numbers. However, the next day they said the change was made. They didn't tell me the freq and I never sent in my the models numbers. However, I was able to confirm they changed it to 62.5 Hz when testing it.

Does solar make sense in Texas?

Solar/PW installed last week and while waiting for PTO, I've been turning on the solar for a few hours during the day to charge the PW. Here is my usage/cost from my energy provider on a free night plan: And a couple daily breakdowns:

Anyone know how to set the storm watch via API? I see the storm watch endpoint in the cloud api, but not sure what parameters to send in order to enable/disable it.

    UPS, part 2

s/meter/meters/ Doesn't that show the current frequency, not the frequency it would shift to in order to cut off solar.
  30. D

    UPS, part 2

Is this frequency shift still applicable to Tesla's inverter? I'm still waiting for PTO so haven't been able to test it out yet.

They were able to cluster them better, but claim the southwest facing roof is 47 degrees pitch and not eligible. Hopefully they can send someone to verify the angle since it should be 45 degrres.

    Post Your Tesla Solar Layout

There's not that many, probably interpreted stain marks from the satellite images as penetrations. It will cover ~133% of our day time usage. Night time rates are really low here due to wind, and can even go negative many nights including last night ($/MW)

    Post Your Tesla Solar Layout

Got the initial layout and was wondering if I should ask to move any to the south-west facing side. Seems like there will always be a panel in the chimney shadow. PVWatts show <5% difference in production.

    Anyone using Griddy for electricity?

My current electric contract is expiring and currently trying to decide between fixed or time of day plans. I decided to test out my front 2 ports since I ordered the jeda pad and wanted to see if I needed to route power from the 12V plug. Already have J1772 EVSE, should I get the Tesla Wall Charger?

If you have the means, go for it. Personally, dealing with the adapter every time is not worth it. We had a HPWC and J1772 EVSE. I got rid of the EVSE for a second HPWC.

HPWC: 40 amp with pigtail vs 48 amp hardwired

When charging, some of the energy is used to power the car including heating/cooling the battery and a little to transmissions loss. I would ballpark about 1kWh is not going into the battery depending on the temperature and other things. So 40/48Amps is really charging the battery at ~36/44...

HPWC: 40 amp with pigtail vs 48 amp hardwired

What's the cost difference? 20% faster charging and cleaner install is probably worth at least 100 bucks to me.
