Vendor Tesla Model 3 with XPEL Ceramic Window Tint

My son paid $900 for all windows including windshield (but not sunroof) with the best Xpel and I paid $450 for all windows including windshield with Ilumar IRX. They would do the glass roof for $125 more. This is in MA.

Tinting front windshield: 50% or 70%?

This makes no sense. They would not change their Stratos product line hue between shades.

    Tinting Front Windshield

That's not true. Even if the factory windshield rejects heat, the added ceramic film still cuts whatever gets through in half again.

    Tint question

Because adding tint will reduce it further. For example, say that the existing glass roof blocks 60% of all solar energy hitting it. There is still 40% left, and my head can feel it badly enough in the summer that I have to use a roof screen insert or more tint. Personally I am going with the...

    Model 3 Tire Pressure

Note that door stickers are tire pressure for max gross weight, so a fully loaded car with luggage and ~800lb of passengers. So perhaps 40 is best for normal use.

How to improve Model 3 braking feel?

My 2020 brakes feel like they have air in them and are the worse feeling brakes of the last 10 cars I have had, possibly even including my Hummer H1. I will ask at my next service appointment (in 5 days) if that is typical or if they have air in them.

Pros and Cons to removing the Aero Caps?

This is a good idea to use the existing wheels for winter tires. They are wheels by the way - "rims" are just the outer part of a wheel. Only multi-part wheels like some BBS have separate rims.
  10. T

Pros and Cons to removing the Aero Caps?

I am leaving them on for a few reasons. One is that the wheel covers look fine in person, and only look bad in photos. Also, there is a 12 mile difference in range - more if you go faster. Also, part of the point of a Tesla is to not do things the traditional way just for the sake of making...

    HPWC SER vs Romex Wire?

The first splice system I bought was brass plated. I learned that it was not compatible with AL, so I had to scrap it and start over. Now it is spliced with this:

    HPWC SER vs Romex Wire?

"whether or not you have the lugs on the butt splices, breaker, and receptacle." I don't think I have lugs. Do you have a photo of what this would look like? I followed the directions for how much jacket to remove for the splice connectors, and used a Jokari tool. I used NoOx. Never saw any...

2020 model year Model 3 discussion

I was surprised to see people getting 2020 VIN in October. I thought they just started in mid-December. Tesla seems to be changing their policy for model years, and I heard it is related to export model paperwork.

Stealth Performance M3s in stock - Raleigh NC

Seems hard to believe that the factory spoiler is functional. In any case, I would never go over 145 with my car. Battery might only last for 20 minutes at that speed.
  17. T

Performance Model 3 without 20” Rims

That is what I thought, but then you told me that "Stealth is not the same as performance. Different calibers, stock 18’s don’t fit.." So I took that to mean that me suggesting that a factory Stealth model was not what he wanted.
  18. T

Performance Model 3 without 20” Rims

Yes, one cannot put stock 18 inch wheels on a normal Performance. I mentioned it because someone looking for a Performance drivetrain with 18 inch wheels could search for one of these Stealth Performance models. There are aftermarket 18 inch wheels that fit the larger brakes:

Stealth Performance M3s in stock - Raleigh NC

It says it on the website for my VIN. My car is a 2020 Performance with 18 inch wheels, no spoiler, base brakes, and black pedals. The sales rep called it a "Stealth Performance."

Stealth Performance M3s in stock - Raleigh NC

My 2020 Stealth has 18 inch all season tires and says 145 top speed. Maybe with the 19 inch sport tires it is 162.

Insurance on a Stealth VS LR AWD

I got Geico yesterday. Website asked for the VIN but not the sales price. It was not expensive to insure.

Performance Model 3 without 20” Rims

I got a 2020 Stealth with 18 inch wheels yesterday. I didn't even know it existed but called for a test drive appointment of a LR and the sales guy mentioned it. I bought it within minutes. I am 90% sure it would have been sold in the next two hours because I headed right to the dealer and when...

Performance Mode 3 Variant Naming Convention.

So - bought a 2020 Stealth yesterday with 18 inch wheels in red and get it on the 30th. Sales rep says it will come with track mode. I am not sure what to call it.

    HPWC SER vs Romex Wire?

So when I installed this, it was for a Cybertruck that is 2-3 years away. On Christmas, my wife made a certificate gift for a family Tesla, and wanted something for us now. We don't need a car now since we won't have an extra driver until the summer, but I decided to call Tesla for a test drive...

    HPWC SER vs Romex Wire?

I put that connector in with the screw inside the panel because if I did it the normal way, the plaster would be in the way due to it being recessed. I knew it was backwards. The flex tubing is not actually used in the panel as conduit. It has a real gray PVC conduit coming into it and the flex...

“More Valuable” Stealth Performance Model 3 Unicorn

I have never heard of this variant, but called today for a test drive and they had one and offered it to me. 2020 VIN and tax credit. I immediately bought it. I have no doubt it would have been sold within an hour had I not. I get it Sat and was told it has track mode. You also get chrome trim...

    HPWC SER vs Romex Wire?

This 125 amp panel is way better. Feels about 3x the weight and has a 125 amp bus bar. Still only about $45. Somehow I managed to have my conduit come through the wall at exactly the right spot. Waiting on some parts now to finish this. Had to return the splice kit as it was not rated for AL...

    HPWC SER vs Romex Wire?

I asked if there was one that would work, and they said HOM1224L125PC or HOM816L125PC Is it against the NEC to drive a main-lug 125 bus-bar panel from another panel using a 100 amp breaker over wire that is rated for 100 amps? The Schneider rep said it was fine because "HOM816L125PGC just have...

What is the maximum branch breaker OR Back-Fed main breaker that can be installed in the QO612L100F/S-RB, QO612L100DF/S, QO816L100F/S-RB, QO816L100DF/S Load Centers?
  31. T

    HPWC SER vs Romex Wire?

A Model-X gets 325 miles on a 100. So a CT would need a 150 to get 500 miles if it was the same efficiency. So maybe a 200 is possible for the 500 mile version, but I would be surprised.
  32. T

    HPWC SER vs Romex Wire?

I am preparing for CyberTruck, which may end up with a 300kwh battery. So it may take 3x as long for a full charge as current cars. Not that it would ever need a full charge since it is charged every night. In other news, Schneider Electric swears you are not supposed to use a 100 amp branch...
  33. T

    HPWC SER vs Romex Wire?

Not sure to make of this. Schneider Electric sent it to me saying this first space can be used for a 100 amp breaker. Is that only when used for back feeding, or could it be used for a normal 100 amp branch?
  34. T

    HPWC SER vs Romex Wire?

And even then, my "100 amp" sub-panel has a label on it saying a branch circuit cannot be more than 70 amp breaker. So in order to do a 90 amp breaker, I would need to replace the sub-panel with a dedicated cutoff such as a "Square D by Schneider Electric D223N 100-Amp 240-Volt Two-Pole Indoor...
  35. T

    HPWC SER vs Romex Wire?

I am sad. Even though basically every electrician uses a 100 amp breaker for 2-2-2-4 SER cable to a sub-panel (that is how my existing sub-panels are wired), the NEC makes you use the 75C ampacity column. So, that means you are supposed to use a 90 amp breaker. I had my heart set on 100 amps...
  36. T

    HPWC SER vs Romex Wire?

Totally would do lug-breaker panel instead of "disconnect" because they cost less ($19 at Home Depot or Lowes) and also allow for adding circuits.
  37. T

    HPWC SER vs Romex Wire?

#4 doesn’t have the ampacity for 100 amps. Need #3.

    HPWC SER vs Romex Wire?

I am using clamps for the wires entering the box. Not sure if that is what you mean by connectors, but I am not leaving them bare if that is what you are asking. The ground comes isolated on this panel, but yes, it will be kept isolated. Also for that matter, I need a ground bar kit which the...

    HPWC SER vs Romex Wire?

A possible snag. My Square D by Schneider Electric HOM612L100SCP Homeline 100 Amp 6-Space 12-Circuit panel says on the label that the max branch breaker is 70 amps. Their website FAQ uses different language and speaks of 70 amps as the "largest single pole" breaker. I can't call them on the...

    HPWC SER vs Romex Wire?

Electrician was supposed to give me a quote this morning to do this work, but he didn't yet, and I got impatient and so I started doing it myself. I bet it is done by the time he emails me. I expect to finish Monday night as I have a giant junction box coming on Monday for the splice. My 20...

    HPWC SER vs Romex Wire?

Since my THHN can be colored wire, and yes I know I can use all black. But if ai buy colors for a subpanel hookup, do I get 3 AWG black, red, and white and then 5 AWG green? Can the green be stranded too?
  42. T

    HPWC SER vs Romex Wire?

Yes. 20 feet of it is underground. The splice will be in a giant $40 metal electrical junction box. dialtectric grease will be used. Four of these will be used: Gardner Bender HSB-28 Cable Splice Kit, 8-2 AWG, Black

    HPWC SER vs Romex Wire?

I read that SER cannot be used in conduit underground because it is not rated for wet. But this says "wet or dry locations:" https://www.lowes.com/pd/Southwire-2-2-2-4-Aluminum-Ser-Service-Entrance-Cable-By-the-Foot/4294349 Anyway, I have my plan. 100 amp sub-panel with 3 AWG THHN that goes in...

    HPWC SER vs Romex Wire?

The electrician claims that you can't sleeve SER cable in PVC conduit to go outside. Is that true?
  45. T

    HPWC SER vs Romex Wire?

"Actually #4 is allowed to be fused at 90A for THHN." He wanted to use #4 Romex, not #4 THHN. I told him that Romex must use the 60C column, and that required #2.
  46. T

    HPWC SER vs Romex Wire?

In no way did I mean to use 90C charts for wire. I just said to purchase 90C wire.
  47. T

    HPWC SER vs Romex Wire?

Question: If I just wanted to connect my main panel to a sub-panel, should I not use this? https://www.lowes.com/pd/Southwire-2-2-2-4-Aluminum-Ser-Service-Entrance-Cable-By-the-Foot/4294349 I assume it is allowed underground in PVC conduit? Or not? And the 75C column for aluminum is 90 amps...

    HPWC SER vs Romex Wire?

So glad I read this thread as it allowed me to ask the right questions. Master electrician just came to talk about a 90 or 100 amp sub panel in my garage. He said he wanted to use individual wires (THHN) through 1.25” conduit from my garage to outside my utility room, then use a box to change...

    HPWC SER vs Romex Wire?

This thread was useful because it gave me the idea of putting a sub-panel in the garage rather than just directly wire a Wall Connector. Here are the notes I made after reading this thread: Install small 12 circuit flush-mount sub-panel in garage. Must have 75C rating for panel and breakers...
