Electric vehicle rebate and 'ute tax' killed off in December 2023

Matt. Stop trying to freeload and pay your fair share.
  2. F

Electric vehicle rebate and 'ute tax' killed off in December 2023

No, I agree that some of the more efficient petrol cars are not paying enough and all petrol cars should be brought into RUCs asap but that A) has nothing to do with emissions And B) is not justification for you and me and every other EV driver not paying our fair share.

Electric vehicle rebate and 'ute tax' killed off in December 2023

It doesn't, despite your fervoured desires for to. If you search the RUC Cost Allocation Model paper, the word emissions appears twice, once defining what the E in ETS is, and the other in a footnote "The classification does not include externalities such as congestion, noise or emissions...

Electric vehicle rebate and 'ute tax' killed off in December 2023

Yes, it corellates, but it has zero to do with the pricing of RUCs or FED, and it is irrelevant.

Electric vehicle rebate and 'ute tax' killed off in December 2023

You are trying to make it about emissions, but it has nothing to do with emissions, it is about paying for the cost of building and maintaining roads. No point discussing this any further.
  6. F

Electric vehicle rebate and 'ute tax' killed off in December 2023

No, petrol vehicles don't pay RUCs... I think it's perfectly fine for EVs to pay the same rate as the other vehicles subject to RUCs.. Why should they get a further discount, they use the same road, weigh the same, take up the same amount of space. Once again, RUCs pay for roads, they are...

Electric vehicle rebate and 'ute tax' killed off in December 2023

No, the reason there is only one weight band for light vehicles is because at the low loadings caused by light vehicles there is nearly zero wear to the roads. It's pointless to create a new weight band for a $1 or $2 discount on RUCs. When you increase the GVM to 6 ton the RUCs only...
  8. F

Electric vehicle rebate and 'ute tax' killed off in December 2023

Nope. Petrol tax is too low, and petrol cars need to be moved across to RUCs. RUCs are fine at $76/1000, possibly too low even

    Supercharger - Tauranga

A little birdy tells me Tesla has put this supercharger install out for quoting, so it's likely to appear on the map shortly.
  10. F

    Supercharger - Taihape

Just passed thru Taihape, the Electricians are onsite and appear to be nearly done installing the v3 dispensers. 6 bays, a dedicated 750kVa transformer, and the signs with instructions for non-Teslas are up. Should be live in two weeks. Had a nosey at the inside of a v3 dispenser, quite...

    Supercharger - Waitomo

I popped in on my way down the line this morning. Concrete plinths are poured, it's a 6 bay site, and yes, 50m or so from Big Azz ice creams, just under the giant apple.
  12. F

    Supercharger - Waitomo

Ah man, now I need to plan a trip down that way just to see how they are progressing in about a month.

Looking for recommendations - Home Charger Cable Extensions

2.5mm² is overkill for 10A, unless you are talking a 40m+ lead. 1.5mm² is plenty. 1.5mm² is rated to 18A at 20m. I'd worry more about the quality of the plug and socket. I charge at 15A on a 20m 1.5mm² extension lead at work. It gets slightly warm to touch.

    Supercharger - Rainbow Point

Oh, right a typo in your previous post. Thinking more about it, I doubt they'll see much traffic from other brands anyway, the ~$0.95/kwh price and a bit out of the way. The hyperchargers in the CBD, the Z Tauhara station if you are bypassing Taupo central and the Z Turangi 200kW chargers...
  15. F

    Supercharger - Rainbow Point

What's crazy about it? With 13 superchargers in Taupo why not open them up and make some money off other brands?
  16. F

    Supercharger - Rainbow Point

This site is now live, NZs largest supercharger site, and probably the highest power public charging site. 9 v3 stalls.

Tesla Software Updates for Model 3 New Zealand

At least the 7th bug fix release in the 44.30 branch.. Is tesla software team just falling to bits?
  18. F

Tesla Software Updates for Model 3 New Zealand

2023.44.30.7 downloading now. Release notes are "Minor Fixes"

Tesla Software Updates for Model 3 New Zealand

Wait till you drive in the rain. Auto wipers are nerfed.

    Model 3 Highland test drive

It was stupid enough with the older cars, but doubling down on stupid interface design just means my next EV won't be a Tesla.

    Supercharger - Ruakura

This site is now live in the App.

    Supercharger - Ruakura

Looks not too far off, might be open for Xmas, depends if they are going to asphalt/concrete the lot.
  23. F

How many Tesla's in New Zealand

At least 720 according to the Nzta open data portal. Might be more depending on how the early ones were described.

    MODEL Y DELIVERY New Zealand

Viking Paglia unloaded at Auckland a couple of days ago. You should be getting an updated delivery date shortly if yours was on that ship.
  25. F

    Supercharger - Taihape

I guess it's a walk down to the public toilets if the steakhouse closed. It's the same at Bulls, the public toilets are over by the the chargeNet hypercharger so probably 200m away.
  26. F

    Supercharger - Taihape

A new supercharger pin has appeared. Taihape. Assuming the pin location is accurate as they have been lately, it will be in the carpark of the Rustic Steakhouse, next to the Bottle-O, which is on State Highway 1 about 100m up the hill from the iconic gumboot.
  27. F

    Supercharger - Ruakura

Progress at Ruakura.. Just saw on the old bookface some photos, looks like it's going to be six stalls, concrete plinths have been poured with orange ducting sticking out. Also, A new pin has appeared at Taihape, Q1 2024 target. It's only 15mins away from the existing Mangaweka site, so...

Gen3 wall charger, 3-phase install question

So what is the current at which it will operate when continuously loaded under worst case scenario?
  29. F

Gen3 wall charger, 3-phase install question

Unless I'm mistaken std breakers aren't 100% rated?
  30. F

Gen3 wall charger, 3-phase install question

Breaker is sized to prevent a short from igniting your wiring/house, not to protect the device on the end of the wire. (Most domestic 10A sockets are on a 16A or 20A breaker) Standard breakers are rated for 80% of their rated current continuously...
  31. F

Gen3 wall charger, 3-phase install question

Personally I'd be asking the sparky to install a 40A breaker and 6mm² (or 10mm² depending on if its being run in insulated walls etc) cable in case you eventually upgrade to a car with 22kW onboard charger. The breaker should be larger than the max continuous load, not equal to it.
  32. F

    Supercharger - Ruakura

Passed by again today, still no supercharger hardware, the only noticable progress is that the car park area has pegs and mark out paint that weren't previously there. It's currently a gravel lot, so it's probably going to be sealed like the main carpark as part of the upgrades.
  33. F

    Charger vandalism

Strange, last time I was there it was the other way round, the one shown was working, and the other one was not functional.
  34. F

    Supercharger - Ruakura

The pin placement is accurate. No signs of supercharger hardware yet, but a brand spanking new 750kVA transformer with construction fencing around it right in front of the Berry store carpark is confirmation enough for me.

Model 3 Air con not fully functioning

Is there a visual check for this seal that can be done by waving a smartphone under the dash or something? Mine is probably from the same batch (vin ends in nc600xxx), so if I can verify the seal is missing I'll chase up getting it remedied, particularly as the summer performance of the aircon...

CCS Type 2 local recommendations for BYO Cable?

Ah well, that makes all the difference, definately worth $300 more for a cable that will probably barely get used.
  37. F

CCS Type 2 local recommendations for BYO Cable?

And it's going to be $600 landed, all for a silly button that opens the charge flap? A $10 remote off alibaba does the same thing, and doesn't require either end of the cable to be plugged in.
  38. F

CCS Type 2 local recommendations for BYO Cable?

Its only a 16A cable, so you halve your charge speed at single phase type2 outlets.
  39. F

CCS Type 2 local recommendations for BYO Cable?

It's a $300ish dollar cable to be able to charge slowly. If you average 7kW charging and value a kwh of charge at 30c that's 143hrs of free charging to break even. The Tesla supplied cable is good quality. https://shop.tesla.com/en_nz/product/mennekes-type-2-adapter---7_5m

    Supercharger - Bulls

So I just swung by, and one of the guys doing the install wandered over for a chat. They are aiming for having them livened up for the weekend, and as well as the 2 cabinets/6stands there now, they have already done the ducting for another 3 stands (and I assume 1 more cabinet).

    New Zealand Road Trips

No adapter for current Tesla cars, they use CCS2 natively. The pain in the ass is having to download and install the app for every different charge network, and register and setup card payments.
  43. F

    New Zealand Road Trips

And Z certainly seem to be trotting out chargers at a good pace, and not just the 75kWs, quite a few 150kW+ stations. Noticed today one of my local(ish) stations is getting a 75kW charger installed which fills in a hole where there aren't any decent chargers nearby.
  44. F

    New Zealand Road Trips

Z has there own chargers and there own app. They are no longer associated with chargeNet.
  45. F

    Supercharger - Bulls

I think I'm passing through there on Monday & Thursday, I'll take a look as my car charges at ChargeNet.
  46. F

    Supercharger - Glenfield

They've removed them all. Posts are there, but no signs.
  47. F

    Supercharger - Glenfield

Still doesn't, even though I'm plugged in and charging at it. Shows in the phone app, but wouldn't send to the car.
  48. F

    Tesla Westgate

Hopefully with 6 bays of v3 superchargers..
  49. F

    Supercharger - Ruakura

Ruakura Supercharger Target opening in Q4 2023 I suspect that this means Cambridge will be dropped, its pretty close and also just off SH1, I doubt they'll build two new sites so close in a short timeframe.

Tesla Software Updates for Model 3 New Zealand

For me it happened a couple of updates before 26.8. How long has the longest period you gone without rebooting to force a check? I have a feeling its deliberate by Tesla and the software check has been turned down to weekly. Trying to see how long it goes without checking but keep having to...
