Q: What is the style of this review?
A: Told as a story over two days of a Turo rental, features of the Model 3 are discussed as I recount my time driving around LA (Day 1) and staying in Santa Barbara...
Do you know what the "some cases" applies to? I've been researching both Destination Charging and now Workplace Charging in an effort to understand exactly what costs Tesla will waive, and I can't be sure if they only cover the costs associated with the chargers, or the chargers and installation...
Hey all!
After spending a few minutes in You You Xue's Model 3, there were so many amazing things about the car I enjoyed, but the one thing that specifically stood out to me was the handling. It felt incredibly tight and immediate. As cheesy as it sounds, I felt one with the car in a way I'd...
Hey @MarkinArch! I'm in the same boat as you, Day 1 reservation holder over here in Los Angeles. Can't wait for my RWD LR model, but I'm wondering how accurate my December-February estimate is still is...
@Troy was kind enough to answer my very similar question yesterday. Here was his response:
“@Migdilio, the LR/SR difference is something that complicates the calculations too much. Therefore I didn't add this feature. Hopefully, Tesla will soon start making the Standard Range packs and get rid...
That's so nice of you, @arcus! I hope you enjoy, and feel free to let me know your thoughts. I delved deep on Thorium nuclear power (so deep I was a week late - lesson learned!) in Episode 4. The more I mention it to folks, the more I realize how few people know about this awesome, clean energy...
Hey everyone!
Long time listener, not-quite-first-time caller here! I first fell hard for Tesla a few years back, and then doubled down after reading Tim Urban's fantastic four-part series on Elon Musk. Since March 31, 2016, I've been anxiously biding my time, and splitting it between Electrek...
I wish I could do that. I simply don't trust myself to have the patience and precision to wrap it myself. Thank goodness the screen protector I bought for my Switch came with a backup, because I completely screwed up the first pass...
Triple yes. I'm hoping detailers are already finding solutions for this. I live in LA, but want to take delivery in Fremont so I can get tinted at OCDetailing. Hoping they have a nice looking wrap for the piano madness.
Edit: And thanks for the in-depth reply! Pretty much agree with all of it.
@run-the-joules I personally agree. For me, I prefer the Model 3's smaller size, minimalist interior, and design aesthetic to the Model S. What are the qualities of the 3 that you prefer, and what features - if changed / removed - would make you shift to a Model S?
Agreed, the numbers seem wonky. Looking forward to the Q4 call.
Seeking Alpha predicts 5,000 units a week by March: Tesla Model 3 Ramp: 5,000 To 10,000 - Tesla Motors (NASDAQ:TSLA) | Seeking Alpha
How reliable are Inside EV's numbers? I know Tesla had difficulty with the ramp, but 712 seems awfully low. Granted, they haven't included December in their totals yet...
@Troy, apologies if you mentioned this earlier: do we have reason to believe LR / SR will be available to current non-Tesla owners around the same time? I was under the impression that there would be a delay of several months between the two.
I'm disheartened by some of the responses in this thread. I initially planned a longer response, but it's easier for me to point to my thoughts here: Snippy forum and save everyone the redundancy.
@bigsaul for the record, your request is completely reasonable. Tesla is the only serious electric...
@insaneoctane thank you for posting this. I’ve only recently registered to this forum, but I’ve been a reader since 2016, anxiously biding the last 18 months until my Model 3 arrives.
I fell hard for the mission of Tesla - and more broadly, the mission of Elon Musk - several years ago. I’ve...
Hey @MP3Mike. Yes, it makes sense for Tesla to match the range displayed on the UI to the EPA range reported on the Monroney sticker. But if there is, "behind the scenes," an additional 20-40 available miles, how will that difference manifest, if not in the UI? Will the driver be able to drive...
Hey @Troy. I really appreciate your response! If the Model 3 is capable of up to 352 miles of range based on EPA estimates, why wouldn't this number show up in the UI when the LR Model 3 is fully charged?
This makes sense. Considering this is Tesla's first "true" car for the masses, it's better for them to "dumb things down" and give the average person an experience that doesn't suffer from a lot of variance and rely on customers to do additional thinking and calculations to figure out what their...
@insaneoctane so you agree with Troy (and some others) that Tesla is sandbagging the numbers and that the actual range is considerably higher? If that is the case, what is the end game, and what does it look like? Will Tesla release the "real" numbers at some point before the car goes wide to...
This actually makes good sense, and explains the discrepancy.
I'm still left to wonder about Troy's research, and why he got such different numbers for the Model 3's range when he followed Tesla's previous method of calculating vehicle range for EPA submission. Even if his conclusion (The...
Hey @SageBrush. I am not questioning it; I am pointing out that in the document linked, Tesla only lists one of those two ranges (specifically, SR) as an EPA Estimate.
I'll admit that I'm slightly phased by your hostility, but I appreciate your replies nonetheless. I've been a fan of your...
@shrspeedblade, I agree that the 310 number is fantastic, and I couldn't be happier! I'll be getting the $49,000 bundle sometime between November and January, and I can't wait. My questions stem not from a lack of gratitude about the current reported range, but from an intellectual curiosity...
Hey @SageBrush. I appreciate the reply. I was agreeing with your statement that it's an "idiotic conspiracy theory" that Tesla would artificially suppress the LR Model 3's official range.
I agree with you that it's perfectly reasonable for Tesla to use the EPA rating in the display calculation...
@SageBrush, I agree that it does not make sense for Tesla to do this. For the record, I don't think they are. However, I'm curious to understand how this number squares with Troy's research and findings. Also, it should be noted that in Tesla's press release, only the Model 3 SR's range is...
Hey all. Long time listener, first time caller. I've been following Troy / Teslike's insightful posts re: the potential sandbagging of the LR 3's range ("The 310 miles number is not real. It is a made up number."), in which he pegs the "real" range somewhere between 334 - 352. His research and...
