    Tesla in crisis?

Cause then the millions of Model 3s and Model Ys already on the road would be the "robotaxi". Otherwise, why would he would have to unveil something new and that doesn't exist in the market today? This is, ostensibly, why they don't allow lease buyouts on the M3/MY, cause they were going to...

    Tesla in crisis?

Yeah, even after just two drives with FSD during this 30 day trial period, it's clear that it's still years away from being something that could even be considered by regulators or underwriters for unsupervised use (don't get me wrong, super impressive what they can do with cameras but not...

    Tesla in crisis?

Couldn't agree more. In addition to all of this, having the FSD trial this month has shown how far away true self-driving really is. It's cool and all but nowhere near ready for me to trust it to take my kid to school or pick me up from the bar. Elon keeps talking about automation but we all...

Stuck On 2024.2.7 After Not Having Wifi Few Weeks

I got an update last week, it brought the 30 day FSD trial. Nice to have EAP back for next few weeks. I missed it from first Model S. The post above you was right. I think they are rolling out the FSD trial update to everyone and that left some of us without updates for a month or two.

FSD 12 perspective from a previous skeptic

Coming from someone who paid for FSD (like a chump) in 2017 and never got it on my first Model S, I'm impressed with the progress. That being said, I've had a fairly different experience over the past two days with the 30 day trial. TLDR is that it did really well on broad streets and multi...

30 Day Trial of FSD on a 2017 Model S!!

With today's update I got the 30 day trail of FSD on my HW3 upgraded 2017 Model S! Not gonna lie, it's a huge improvement over my previous experience with beta FSD in the fall of 2023 on my previous Model 3. It's way more assertive and confident. That all being said, it still had several of the...

Stuck On 2024.2.7 After Not Having Wifi Few Weeks

I moved a few weeks ago to a new house. During that time, my Model S had intermittent Wifi access. At one point during the move, it notified me that there was an update available. After a few days of the little yellow arrow icon being at the top of my screen, I happened to park close enough to...

    Cybertruck is a scam.

Never gonna happen. He's even said so. After he was ousted at PayPal, he more or less vowed that it would never happen again. Purposefully setting his position up as CEO at Tesla very early on (after the actual founders were pushed out). The unfortunate reality is that Tesla is intrinsically...

Cyber(nota)truck even more Not a truck than I first thought

Yeah, but it's not just the range. It's that Tesla doesn't seem to be taking it seriously at all. Ok, I get it only could fit 123kwh of battery. Ok, I get it, the design had to be exactly this, or daddy Elon would be guilty of being what he doesn't like about other car makers. Then in lieu of...

    Cybertruck is a scam.

nah... It's a crack from the heater. In the exact spot it happens everytiime with 2016-2019 Model S. There is no chip, don't worry tho, I doubt one poorly made windsheild will impact the stock price ;)

    Cybertruck is a scam.

Yeah, I have a feeling "sell out all the builds for 2024" is EDF* speak for "we've almost hit the number of people we think that would be willing to pay extra for a 'Foundation Series' and not riot when we don't deliver on time" Best estimates put ~600 CT have been made so far. So like 10 - 15...

    Cybertruck is a scam.

well now that you're really speculating here's the TMC chat about it: Defroster cracked windshield on ‘19 model S here's the reddit chat about it: And when under warranty, Tesla was covering this type of crack in older Model S. Since they didn't bother to taper the black enamel to fully...

    Cybertruck is a scam.

Damnnn.... dem monthly payments are getting serious then. Cyberbeast with 5yr loan and 10% down is over $2,000/month right now. That was a mortgage payment not too long ago... But yeah, I could see our dear leader raising the price of the CT (all models for that matter) to meet potentially...

    Cybertruck is a scam.

I leased a 2020 Model 3 through my business for a couple years. It was alright, not great and nothing like either of my Model S. I know your experience with the Model S hasn't been great but both of mine have (older models) been the two best cars I've ever owned. And this was coming from an Audi...

    Cybertruck is a scam.

Went back and read their review of the Highland LR, it was actually a pretty glowing review. Like the only nitpick they had was about the the glass roof. Which can be annoying. Not sure what Tesla has their panties in a bunch about. Maybe cause they published the actual range the car gets and...

    Cybertruck is a scam.

I'm starting to come around to this as well. I'm thinking they can only really make 10-20k of these things in the next 12 months. Looks like they've only made ~600 in the last 60 days and even at this pace, we are already seeing some pretty serious QC issues. It really feels like Cybertruck for...

    Cybertruck is a scam.

The V4 chargers currently still use the V3 charging cabinets. And I think they've only put in a few over the past three months. Only one of which seems to have space for a trailer... Really doesn't seem like they're taking this seriously. Plus to those V4 chargers are open to CCS, so I'd imagine...

    Cybertruck is a scam.

This also has me worried that if Tesla does manage to sell hundreds of thousands of Cybertrucks that take 45-150min to charge to 80%, how much worse the supercharging experiece will get? Currently, supercharging almost always (in the DC area) involves a line. At the very least, someone on the A...
  20. sublimejackman

What do you think is causing the limited tow capability of the new Cybertruck?

This was going to be my exact use case. I could probably stomach stopping every 90min to charge. It's the fact that I would need to drop the trailer, charge for 60-120min, then reattach the trailer. Man... I really hope they start taking towing seriously. Maybe I can pick up a used CT or Rivian...

    Cybertruck is a scam.

The CT tires have "about half" the tread depth of the regular Goodyear AT tires - Out of Spec Reviews in his 70mph higways test video. I suspect this is the reason why videos of the CT struggling in snow/slopes keep popping up. I have a feeling a lot of R&D was focused on keeping the aesthetic...
  22. sublimejackman

What do you think is causing the limited tow capability of the new Cybertruck?

Exactly. Tesla must have realized this very early on and just skipped towing. I'm guessing that design and using the cheaper cells were hard requirements and everything else was worked around those constraints. Maybe later variants will do a better job? Not sure if sacrificing the bed for...
  23. sublimejackman

What do you think is causing the limited tow capability of the new Cybertruck?

In ideal conditions, at a V2 supercharger, it could charge at 125kw during its peak to 70% or .7C. Then down to 100kw to 80%. That's ideal. Everything would have to be perfect. And during that totally not long period of time, if someone parks in the B stall, while you're in A (which will happen...
  24. sublimejackman

What do you think is causing the limited tow capability of the new Cybertruck?

It's the combination of things. Tesla clearly wasn't serious about the CT being anything more (at least in this first pass) than a toy. If you get the range extender (~50Kwh), then V2 supercharging 0-80% would be 2hours and 40min! V3 supercharging would still be over an hour! Where are the 800v...
  25. sublimejackman

What do you think is causing the limited tow capability of the new Cybertruck?

No. Not problem solved. Not at all. The big ass number on the display is a lie. A fairytale. Something the vehicle is unable to achieve even on a sunny day on the flat higways of Kansas. How are you not understanding this?!
  26. sublimejackman

What do you think is causing the limited tow capability of the new Cybertruck?

It's hard to parse the specific issue of the Cybertruck being bad at towing and the general systemic/cultural issues with Tesla as a company. As pointed out to me early, and as noted in the JerryRig video, Tesla has a range estimate lying problem in general. All but the one specific...
  27. sublimejackman

    Cybertruck is a scam.

Yeah. 2 hours to charge from 0 - 80% at a V2 supercharger, 45min at a V3. Makes me wonder why they didn't start rolling out the 800v superchargers in advance. Even just rolling out 4 or 5 locations in Austin and on the east/west coast to show that is was coming would have gone a long way. Maybe...
  28. sublimejackman

What do you think is causing the limited tow capability of the new Cybertruck?

Yeah but that's not how real people work. They've driven gas cars their whole lives. Not spent years researching and have a mind that can keep real time percentages when driving, at least not yet. In a 2003 Chevy Suburban the range estimate is shown in miles based on previous driving. The...

  30. sublimejackman

What do you think is causing the limited tow capability of the new Cybertruck?

That overrides the remaining "range" displayed on the dashboard? Just display whatever number as long as you put a blurb at the bottom "it's on you, bro but our advertising says 320mi when you can only go 90mi" That and the planner was wrong too in this video, as it usually is, except when it's...
  31. sublimejackman

What do you think is causing the limited tow capability of the new Cybertruck?

So what you're saying is Tesla had no choice but to advertise a 320mi range? No choice but to go with a radical new material that is notoriously difficult to work with? Advertise it towing? Show a 320mi range on the dashbaord? Say it has 800v charging without building a single charger? That's...
  32. sublimejackman

What do you think is causing the limited tow capability of the new Cybertruck?

This video points out literally everything I've been saying. Tesla opted to make a rich kid's toy, that looks "cool", instead of a real world truck. They refuse to admit that the range is poor, they effectively have regulatory cpature over the EPA for these made up range numbers. They chose to...

  34. sublimejackman

What do you think is causing the limited tow capability of the new Cybertruck?

Even when towing 10,000+ pounds, the dashbaord STILL SHOWS the FAKE EPA "Rated Range". Everyone wondering why there have been lines at superchargers for the past week!
  35. sublimejackman

    Cybertruck is a scam.

So this seems to be more data confirming that real world range is closer 170-210miles. 2 hours to charge to 70% on V2 superchargers wooof. Baffling that Tesla didn't start rolling out 800v chargers over the past year (with tow pass thru). Not a good look. THIS is why they went with a smaller...

    Cybertruck is a scam.

Absolutely agree with everything here. We are all fortunate enough to have solid support structures (financial or friends/family) to help if there is an issue. Have the time to research how EVs work and the space to charge (or time to scupercharge). Most don't have those things and until EV...

    Cybertruck is a scam.

I'm with you on this. I love my older Tesla, despite its many flaws. But I would never reccomend a Tesla to someone needs to be at work everyday, drive the kids to school everyday, doesn't have access to 8hrs of level 2 charging a day and/or must drive more than 100mi regularly in a single day...

    Cybertruck is a scam.

Yep. On the Model S. In my old company Model 3, I had to get the windshield replaced (rock hit it), luckily Model 3s can be done by Safelite. This happened while I was shoveling my driveway and the car was "defrosting" behind me, made an audible cracking noise.

    Cybertruck is a scam.

Speaking of Tesla scams. I tried defrost mode for the first time today. I never used it in the past because I KNEW it would do this. But after seeing all those timelapses of it working fine, I thought I would ty it. NOW I have to go to the inner most circle of hell and get the windshield...

    Cybertruck is a scam.

If they stick to these two configurations and these prices, yeah the CT is just a rich kid's toy; selling <100K a year. If they get the price down to ~$65k-$75k rollaway cost for the dual motor with a 500mi EPA range and put in a fair number of 800v trailer accessible superchargers, I think they...

  43. sublimejackman

What do you think is causing the limited tow capability of the new Cybertruck?

The Cybertruck takes an eye-wartering amount of time to charge to 80%. I put 60%, since that seemed to be sweetspot. Charging to 80% would mean every 86 miles, you would charge for 45min!! So at 70mph, you charge every 72min for... 45min! Again, even as someone who has supercharge roadtripped...
  44. sublimejackman

What do you think is causing the limited tow capability of the new Cybertruck?

Just some back of the napkin math here, say you charge to full at home, then stop to supercharge at 5% and then charge to 60%. After 115miles (not even two hours at hwy speeds )you would supercharge. Then supercharge every 63miles for 25min!! Or 33% of the trip would be spent supercharging, best...

    Cybertruck is a scam.

Can't speak for others but that's far from my perspective. I want Tesla to be something I'm proud of and something that lives up to its original promise. They probably can't even fix it at the service center! What are they going to do, sledge hammer it in to place? The panel would need to be completely removed, then bent past its plasic deformation point to account for the springack to its correct position. OR just completely replace the panel...
