Auto Defogger - how to turn it off ?

Like other Tesla "auto" functions, it is designed to be left alone. When I first noticed it, I turned it off once or twice, which involved going into the HVAC screen and pressing the defog toggle button, but I now just leave it alone. It works pretty well in my experience. A Tesla is not really...

Old BT Cabinets to become EV chargers…

This is all fine, but what we need is a national specification for pavement crossing cables which, if complied with, will not need permission from the local authority. Council planning/roads departments are where good ideas go to die.

About to leave warranty - any recommendations? Should I get a service?

I had a suspension squeak in the string. Tesla sent a technician to review the whole suspension set up. Result, I was given an appointment at a service centre, where a large number of corroded parts on 3 or 4 sides were replaced under warranty, just before 4 year basic warranty expired. I was...

    UK Highland Orders

To get the benefit of increased sales from a reduced price, potential customers have to know it has happened. There are huge numbers of people who have either never heard of Tesla (we are "special" people on here), or think they still cost £80,000, the price (for a Model S) when they last heard...

LV insurance hike - quick sense check

I obtained quotes (yesterday) from several comparison sites and Direct Line, and LV= is still extremely competitive, if not still cheapest, for my 2019 M3LR, despite nearly doubling from last year (to mid 500s). Disappointing, but I am out of options.

LV insurance hike - quick sense check

My 2019 M3LR quote has gone up in a similar way. I have obtained quotes from several comparison sites and Direct Line, and LV= is still extremely competitive, if not still cheapest. Disappointing.

EAP Not Insured When Driving In EU

The Irish no longer accept the term "British Isles" as including them. You can see why, although the term is useful to a geographer, and they offer no useful alternative. Look at the fuss over the name of the rugby team, the Lions. You can no longer call them the British Lions or the British...

    Model 3 requiring MOT soon

I took my Model 3 to my local tyre place for a puncture. The guy was clearly terrified of the pucks/lifting issues and more or less said he would do it at my risk. By the time he finished he was happy and confident. Curiously the very next car in line was another Model 3. The owner did not know...

    Model 3 requiring MOT soon

Yes, I used my nearest HEVRA garage, partly because I could be sure it wasn't their first EV, and hopefully also not their first Model 3, and also so I could get a sense of how well they could do other jobs that I would otherwise go to Tesla for (three times further). Cotly Garage in Blairgowrie...

    [UK] 2022.44

Got it in the early hours of 6 December 22. 2019 Model 3 LR. I don't know whether Model, Year etc make any difference to updates. Other than FSD, if you get that you are on a different set of updates (and you are in N America).

    Wow, first world problems, people!
  13. R

    It’s getting cold!!

Yup, my 2019 Model 3 just became a 200 mile car instead of the 300 (well 290) mile car it was in the summer. Wish I had a heat pump. In my car AND in my house. Have neither.

What's everyones insurance renewals this year?

I have been with LV= since I got my Model 3 LR in summer 2019. £382 this year, including a fair number of extras (protected max. NCB, Motor Legal expenses), without which £300 on the dot. I got a 5% discount by calling to tell them they were not the cheapest quote I had on renewal. I did indeed...

Yes, update bug. I stop it by pressing the fat end in, and waiting until the mirrors are fully opened before opening door.

Model 3 Alarm Going Off When Opening Door!

I have the same thing. Hold the door handle fully depressed in, until the mirrors are fully deployed, plus a beat, and it does not happen. Thanks for the update on the fix BTW.

    M3 Gone Wrong

Yes, had it once. Cured it by doing the hardest possible reset immediately I got in the car in the morning, before all the error codes show up. Worked. The same reset did NOT work when the error codes had already appeared (previously). Has not recurred after 6 months. Very happy to cancel my...

    Speeding Fine!

Option 2 is the smart choice. But if you are feeling lucky, plead not guilty, notify the court you have your own speed evidence and invite the prosecution to take it to trial and prove their case. There is a decent chance they will drop the case in favour of a more important case. Their time is...

    Indicator question on Model 3

Yes, agreed. I have had my Model 3 for 2.5 years now, and feel the indicators are the worst feature of the car. I have tried everything. Doesn't work. The worst is when you want to indicate one way then the other quickly. It's pot luck.

    Chargeplace Scotland

Tesla drivers try to charge at the CPS chargers, because they are free, leaving the Tesla chargers mostly deserted. Hopefully soon non-Teslas will be able to charge at the Tesla units, assuming the Dutch trial is successful.

    Chargeplace Scotland

Post codes bear no relation at all to local government areas in Scotland. However, I agree that if away from home, it is often very hard to know the local government area you are in. (Except in Highland, which is bigger than many countries).

    Considering winter tyres

£3000 for tyres and wheels I was quoted, or tyres only for £1100 (Pirelli Winter Sottozero Serie 3), both fully fitted, on an LR with Aero Wheels. I opted for the latter. Absolutely bomb proof in ample Scottish snow for a week last winter. Do you really need them in your neck of the woods (I...

    Energy saving trust loans [Scotland]

I cannot be too critical, because I got the full £35k in 2019, but to see delays and issues two years later is depressing. Proof, if proof were needed, that civil servants just cannot operate effectively in market business, even though the ones I spoke to were well motivated and as helpful as...

    Another Range query....

I am sure you will get 300 in the summer if you drive at legal speed. My 2019 model gets two thirds of the summer mileage in winter. Yours should be somewhat better, with the heat pump.

UK Electricity Generation Carbon Intensity Footprint

It's good this. I am in Dundee, which is North Scotland, so my power is very green, often zero carbon, and almost always very low as they measure it. I get free power, as a resident (others pay, but not much). The shame is that not many locals, beyond the Council and taxis, buy EVs. It's the...

    $TSLA finally admitted to S&P 500

It was baked in originally, for September entry, but when that did not happen the price softened. Now back to where it was, although aftermarket trading is not super reliable. Note that the market is still predicting, not yet experiencing, the S&P purchasing push.

Model 3 premium audio in RHD/UK

My last car was an Audi A8 with the optional super-premium 1000 Watt B&O sound system (£5,500 new 12 years ago, though I got it in a 4 year old car for nothing). The two systems are fairly comparable (to this listener). The Audi went louder, but at mid-volume the Tesla seems a little purer and...

    FSD - rounadabouts and T-junctions

I am really doubtful about FSD's ability to negotiate UK roundabouts in acceptable fashion. Safe, yes, simply by not going until there are no cars visible to the right. Voice control not hearing anything

I think it is a connectivity issue. I reckon the car digitises the sound and sends it to a server to translate it into speech. So if the file cannot upload within a few seconds, you get nothing. The car, unaided, does not offer voice recognition. Sometimes though, there are software...

‘I can almost go from my house to work with no intervention’ - Musk

It is easy to drive thousands of miles without intervention on the American highway network. Distance means nothing. On city roads, and country back roads there is often no right answer. Tyre Pressure on the Sunny Side

My Model 3 is the first car I have had with tyre pressure monitoring. I am sitting in the sun at the moment, and the tyres in the sun are sitting 2psi higher than the shaded tyres. Is this a normal thing? Is 2psi reasonable? Pretty sure the pressures are the same sat in the garage.
