Extended Cold Weather Parking w/o Charging Ability

Log out of Tesla app on you phone and don't check it. Let the car sleep. As you said sentry mode off, also preconditioning off. Count on 1% range loss first day then 0.5% (or just a bit less) daily after that. If you want to be very conservative and overestimate you losses do your calculations...

Is this the original 12v battery?

Copy & pasting from my post in a different older thread (Tesla is currently not quite 7.5yrs old): "When my ~5.5 year old needed a new 12v batter last year Tesla service sent a ranger (aka mobile service) to come out & replace. Was told that the low battery warning is conservative (ie warns...

The current strength decreases when I use an extension cord.

10gauge 100' extension cord form Uline worked well for me-no hot end pieces nor voltage lost but not cheap Heavy Duty Extension Cord - 100', 10 Gauge, 15 Amp S-23548 - Uline I'm sure there are others brands

    Canadian CHAdeMO charging

Second that. On a trip to the Maritimes last month, northeast NB and the western extremes of the Gaspe-no Supercharger nearby. All fast chargers=50kW, so no benefit to CCS vs Chademo. At least with Chademo adapter I have never had problems like I read about people having at non-Tesla fast CCS...

Moncton to Montreal in late December

Safe rule is car looses 1% battery in first day or two then 0.5% (or less) daily after that. Suggest not only turning off Sentry Mode and disabling any 3rd party apps but log out of your Tesla app while gone. Spacing of Tesla superchargers on Trans Canada is good even for winter. CCS or CHADEMO...

Is level 1 charging a viable long-term option?

Back to the 5-20. Using that you get 100km of real word driving range (~one quarter to one fifth of your battery depending on which model you own) in ~12hrs. That is very useful and depending on how much you drive quite livable for many people. eg You arrive near empty somewhere Fri at 19:00...

Old Gen1 HPWC to give away

If what I was told is correct, that the innards/electronics in my Gen1 H{WC are fried and the the housing and cable + wand are fine, then you should be able to either move the cable from my old HPWC to you work one or move the innards from your work HPWC into my old one. Depending on your skill...

Old Gen1 HPWC to give away

My HPWC, installed early 2016, stopped working. Was told electronics inside were fried but cover, cable (thick-good for 80A) & connector/wand are in good shape. I'm willing to give it away. Strictly "as is" condition. I live in Etobicoke.

Does ChargePoint RFID card work on FLO / BC Hydro networks?

When I spoke with Flo a few years ago they told me both their RFID card and app roam on associated networks in Canada but int the USA only their app roams. Virtual RFID cards are supposed to work like an actual plastic RFID card but don't always.

    Ontario - Flo chargers

As someone who got their EV in May 2016 the problem is as follows. If you remain stuck in a mid 2010 mentality where there are 2 major electric cars; Nissan Leaf for the "real" EV owners and Tesla Model S for the spoiled rich people, then 16a 240v (4kw) charging will fill your 24-30kwh battery...

Used 2017 90d slow sc speeds

Further on range mode-I have found 2 scenarios where range mode is somewhat useful; a)You are doing a trip when it is cold (<5o) and part way your car will sit for a long time (hours) before your do a long trip where range might be in short supply. eg An out and back trip to visit a relative...

Anyone recently charge in Comber Ontario?

Have been there five of the last 7 springtimes. Not there this year yet Check on plugshare.com and/or your in car navigation on the day of to make sure it is working. You should have no trouble getting an unpaired stall to get maximum charging speed. Every time I have been there I have been the...

Don’t forget the power of 120V charging on trips.

While I have a NEMA 5-20 adapter, I have yet to use it. 5-20 outlets have begun to appear in kitchens in the last 10 or so years but I have never seen an outdoor 5-20 outlet in Canada. I understand that they are quite common in the USA.

Don’t forget the power of 120V charging on trips.

I almost ever decline 120v charging on road trips. It is still useful and most available. I still travel of the beaten electrical path but those places are slowly getting fewer. I have spent a week staying at a lodge in remote areas-I had enough range for day-trips. If one day you don't drive...

    Adaptors for '13S

As an owner of a 2016 90D I have had the Chademo adapter since 2017. Have used it a few times including on the Trans Canada before the supercharger build out of a few years ago. One time I used it in Peterborough with over half a dozen Tesla Supercahrgers (wrapped in Shrink Warp and behind a...

How long after a low 12v battery warning?

When my ~5.5 year old needed a new 12v batter last year Tesla service sent a ranger (aka mobile service) to come out & replace. Was told that the low battery warning is conservative (ie warns early) and that you can safely get a few months use out of it if not half a year plus.

CCS1 charger networks in remote Canada useable for Teslas with the Tesla CCS1 adaptor

I have used FLO/AddEnergie/Electric Circuit chargers and found then reliable. Charge Point (only J1772 so far) also works. Ivy worked until their new software in the last month and has not worked since. Mind you for DCFC that is not NACS I use a CHADEMO adapter.

    Supercharger Repair

I had a situation twice a few years ago where the superchargers were probably working but one could not charge. Tesla would have no way of knowing this unless they were monitoring cameras trained on the area. I ended up emailing the president of the Tesla Owners Club who had some internal...

    Ontario - Flo chargers

Let us know how it went. Flo claims to have the most reliable charging network in North America outside of Tesla. I have used my Flo RFID card in Ontario, Add Energie in New Brunswick and Electric Circuit in Quebec. The FLO apps "roams" on associated networks, the RFID card only "roams" on other...

Do you live life, 120 Volts at a time?

When we travel and rent a cottage or stay at a B&B/resort we often live on 120v for a week or more at a time. We have also stayed at places with 240v and/or some kind of formal destination charging. 120v is livable but can be a pain. It has not, so far, stopped us from doing what we want but...

    Extension cords: NEMA 14-30, 10-30, 6-50, or 6-20...

Also consider a Tesla extension cord. When not out of stock: NEW! Tesla Extension Cord – EVSE Adapters . You thus put it between your UMC and car. Thus you do not loose heat sensing if you have a Gen 2 mobile connector.

discharging below 10% or charging above 90% ?

As long as you do not leave it at >90% (especially >95%) for many many hours or days, >90% (including 100%) is less harmful than <10% and especially 0% and getting stranded. PLUS your blood pressure will be better without worry about running out! Enjoy the car.

    Best and Worst destination chargers

Tesla wall connector=best. Charge point-I have the RFID card and has worked quickly every time. I have a wallet in my glove compartment with ~6 RFID cards. It is a small hassle to order the cards but then at location it takes <10 seconds to start.

    Battery Range 2016 90D

    Battery Range 2016 90D

Early 2016 pre-refresh here. ~75,000km. Full charge is ~423km on 100%. Not more than ~20 supercharger session in 6years most 10-20% up to 50-80%. Originally car said 460km range. However my real world range has not changed much since the car was 6 months old.
  29. G

How often can I max charge?

Better to charge to 100% (ideally not more than a few hours before you leave) and arrive with some charge at your destination/charging stop then to run out of charge.

    Tesla Camping charging adaptor

Agree with ecrarfan & brulaz above. Was not available at time I got my custom made adapter. Also TT30 adapter is a obvious missing connector in Tesla catalogue of adapters.

    Tesla Camping charging adaptor

Consider getting a TT-30 to NEMA 14-30 adapter. Advantage: you never have to manually turn down the amperage (***this is a biggie safety wise*** ie in case someone else connects it up and does not know to turn down the current draw from the 14-50's 32a continuous to the 14-30's 24a...

Best charger setup for Canadian winters (can't park in garage)

I vote for options #4 unless you anticipate moving in the next few years. If one day you buy a non Tesla EV you can always buy a Tesla to J1772 (like Jstub or other) so your reliable & relatively inexpensive EVSE is not gone to waste.

Should I buy winter tires or wait? Picking up 1st car - MYLR 1st week of March in Toronto

If you can get winter tires go for it. As much as possible charge overnight!!! a) plugshare.com b)If you are staying at a B&B call ahead and ask about a "3 prong standard outlet with nothing else on the circuit for me to use to charge over night". Buying winter tires - Should I get separate wheels?

I have found the Michelin X-Ice to be good winter tires with decent response and traction. Just don't let the tire pressure get low as they will then feel sloppy. Definitely get TPMS from Tesla. Rims are a personal choice but I advise against plain black steel rims. You've already spent so...

Buying winter tires - Should I get separate wheels?

Get separate winter rims: a)you damage the tire tire a little bit each time you take tire on and off a wheel b)wheels are best stored with tires (even old, worm out rubber on them) c)more convenient (but takes up more space) but if you do not have room most tire sellers will store wheel &...

    Low Voltage Battery

I spoke with a Tesla mechanic when I had this message and was told you usually have at least a month before it becomes critical, ie. car won't turn on. However your vampire drain may be higher as your main battery pack may have to charge the 12v battery more often. Unlike an ICE vehicle...

Charging tesla in calgary (no garage)

I have charged my 2016 Model S outside when vacationing/traveling in winter. Above freezing at 120v 12a I get ~1.4%/hour. When it drop to -5o (Celsius of course) the charge rate falls a bit to near or just below 1% (so about 2/3 of warmer temps). When it get colder say -15o to -20o charge...

Any referrals for shops in Etobicoke/GTA supplying winter wheel/tire packages?

I deal with Kipling Tire-good location if you are in central or south Etobicoke. They have been good. They know Teslas and will get you TPMS, rims & tires. Note that this time of year is very, very busy at all tire places. Was there today to have winter tires put on. For those who store...

    Toronto Service question

I live in Etobicoke and had my 5.25yr old 12v battery replaced earlier this month with mobile service. Also charge port light ring that was partly covered by extended "warranty". As my car is outdoors I asked for an am service time to decrease the chance of rain.

toronto to montreal in model 3 standard range+. which supercharger station to use to get to Montreal fastest ?

From Toronto to Montreal if you drive slow enough and don't have a headwind (preferably a tailwind) and minimal AC/heat you might make Cornwall. Most likely you will need to stop for electrons in Belleville or Kingston. The former is much more likely to have spots available. You will arrive...
