Show off your aftermarket Model X wheels...

My setup is in this thread a couple of times. In short: OEM Air Suspension with lowering links. Front: 22x10.5 et40 with 5mm spacer with 285/35 Rear: 22x11 et20 with 305/30. I had to have rear spindle shaved down to as it would prevent the wheel center caps from being installed. That is...

I'm running 10.5" et40 with a 5mm spacer, in effect having a +35 offset. It doesn't stick out that much. Almost flush it looks like to me. This is the best pic I have to illustrate.

I suppose you could put a spacer on the front if clearing the brakes or struts is an issue. This is assuming the new X has the same fitment as the pre-refresh ones.

There is slight poke just outside of the fenders.

I run a pretty aggressive setup. It's around here somewhere. Not dumped like it's on bags, but it is with lowering links.

Model S Aftermarket Wheel Fitment/Offset Discussion

I think you'll need the flexibility that aftermarket air suspension would provide. I'm not an expert, but those are the only setups that I've seen that can pull off that look. Our OEM air suspensions don't have enough travel to be able to dump it like that, and still be able to raise it high...

Model S Aftermarket Wheel Fitment/Offset Discussion

That's the beauty of the air suspension. You wouldn't drive at that height. That would be disastrous.

Model S Aftermarket Wheel Fitment/Offset Discussion

I *think* you'll need air suspension with camber plates and stretched tires so you can really dial it in so when you air it out it can sit riiiight above the wheel like that.

5mm spacers were used on the front. There is slight poke, but nothing crazy. The tire size was also chosen so there wouldn't be rubbing. Here's some pics I just took the other day after installing the Maxton Design front lip.

I'll be honest, I don't know exactly what they used. They just said it needed spacers in the front. So I said ok, they put em on, and we haven't had any issues or vibrations.

Thankfully, the shop I bought the wheels from, had spacers in stock. Otherwise, I mean, they are small spacers, so you can probably find some on ebay or something. If they were thicker and you needed studs in the spacers to mount the wheels to, then you need to be more picky in choosing the...

Zero issues. Tread still looks fine, though I do expect it will wear inside more than usual since I'm using lowering links. I bought the wheels while they had a sale going on, and paid around 2K if I recall correctly. I think the wheels should probably run somewhere in the 2000-3000 range...

That would certainly help with the wear, but I think it would cause rubbing unfortunately.

DIY Carbon Red Plastidip on the '17 S

I've never used Dip Armor, but seems like a good product with tradeoffs. It also seems to change the properties of "dip." Yes, it hardens it such that it's more resistant to scratches and chemicals/fuel, but it is not impervious to them. For example, in the DYC videos, it seems gas will still...

I went with satin. It doesn't come off too satin honestly unless you add extra coats of just the clear by itself.

You basically have it. Our cars are easy to mask off for liquid wraps. The front, top, and rear glass. Side windows. The bottom of them by the rubber seal and chrome trim is a peel when wet area. Normally you would mask lights, but ours are safe from any reactions with the products. You...

Haha thanks man. The car was red before the blue, but yeah, been switching it up a lot lately to learn from the mistakes I make. Something I've been doing as a hobby. I spray the car with a removable coating called Raail AirWrap. Similar to PlastiDip, but better in a few ways in my opinion.

Haha, not quite exactly like that since that picture from above is before any of the lights and whatnot were peeled off leaving just the body color that blue. Regardless, you are absolutely entitled to your opinion of it. It actually got tons of compliments from all types of people when it...

That was the color on the car that is called "Carbon Blue" in a matte finish using a removable coating product called Raail AirWrap. It's similar to PlastiDip.

If you cleaned properly, thoroughly, and applied enough product, it should hold up just fine. The problem is when you go in to get the tires changed/rotated. Chances are, they will mar up or lift the edges.

If you are spraying the handles alone (for example while doing a chrome delete), you can crack the doors open to keep the handles out and spray them. When I do my full car, I just leave them retracted and spray. I suppose you could unlock the car to get them to present and spray them as well...

https://drpigment.com/collections/all-colors-airwrap You are too kind. I'm not much of a photographer, and only use my phone (Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra). I am trying to improve in choosing angles and not just doing the generic car in the middle of the shot pictures though.

Ah sorry man, I received the wrong ones (textured vs the gloss) so I needed up returning them and not replacing. They are a simple lip that juts out from the sides though.

In short, the product is a clear(ish) peelable paint. Tints, pearls, etc. can be added to create a color or effect. So I sprayed a couple coats of the product untinted without any pigments which will help make the color "pop" a little more.

Couple of new shots. In the bottom picture, I put an additional couple coats of clear liquid wrap over the top, and it brought out the metallic properties a little more as you can see the blurred reflection of the sky on the satin finish.

Checked Alignment: The Good, The Bad, The Ugly

Might have to just go to EVS. Re: the wrap, thanks. It's liquid wrap, and I do it myself. The spot on the mirror had to be peeled since the tolerances are so tight there on my car (doesn't seem to be an issue on my wife's X), and I forgot to turn auto-fold off DOH. It started lifting during...

So I decided to the Ferrada FR1s with matte black face and gloss black lip. 22x10.5 et 40 285/35 22x11 et 20 305/30 5mm spacers in front to clear the strut. Rear spindles needed to be trimmed down to accommodate the center caps. Pictures are in very low setting with lowering links. I have...

Man, I tried to get a lifetime alignment at the Firestone by my home, but they apparently think my car is a spaceship or something and could only offer the "exotic" one-time alignment. Mind you, this is after they first told me they couldn't even do the alignment due to my ride height (lowering...

You can always add red accents if you want to move away from the complete white with black trim look. I have completely changed the color of my S, but I just did a chrome delete for her with liquid vinyl. Much cheaper than vinyl wrap. She wants the red accents. The front "T" could use it...

Hey, I'm with you. I'm not as well versed on these things as a couple members here that advised me on this setup. I thought with people still have rubbing issues with common setups, I was asking for trouble. It's pretty obvious that with these widths, offsets are key. I am beyond happy with...

Ah man, I have relatively lots of clearance for an 11" wheel. I'd say half an inch or so. Sounds like you'll have to try and get that liner to pull away from the wheel somehow. I'd suggest trying what Aggmeister2010 suggested before completely trimming.

No, but they definitely have some. Way more than usual front wheels having to deal with large calipers. I'm used to flat wheels in the front, so was really pleased that I was able to fit 10" in front and 11" in back to get the concavity.

I have always kept badges on my cars, and same with my "lowly" 75D. I didn't care that people knew I had a 75D before, I love the damn thing. I've been dipping the car recently, and finally wanted to see how it would look if I took them off. I like the look.
