    Front license plate falling off

Unless Tony has some other tricks up his sleeve, I suspect that's always going to be the case for S and X. The QB grabs onto the top and bottom of the grille/bumper on the 3 and Y, but there is no bumper there on the S and X. Those grilles are particularly flexible compared to the 3 and Y also...

    Stiff Ride

I have the @RedwoodMotors kit on my Model 3 and am looking forward to doing the same on the Model Y. @MountainPass and Unplugged have kits also.

    Emergency Jack

I'm in the camp of carrying an air compressor and plug kit rather than a jack and spare. I call it my "no spare tire kit". It's not going to be enough for every possible situation, but it has always been enough for me in the past.

    Ring Car Connect

Ring is taking a pretty big risk on this, IMO. Surely Tesla will add this functionality at some point to the app. Maybe it will still be worth it to a Ring user to have it in their app with other cameras, but seems like a small market to me.

    What about License Plates? SnapPlate

After seeing grille damage on the forums from some of the other license plate mounts, one of our top priorities in designing SnapPlate for ourselves was to protect that grille. There's nothing to stop a person or car wash from pulling on it until something breaks, so we made sure the plate mount...

    Wired Charging in Model Y?

We wanted to be able to keep the wireless pad in place and add USB-C PD charging speeds, so here's what we came up with: Wired Phone Fast-Charging Kit for Model 3/Y The trick was finding USB-C to USB-C cables that would fit, but these do and can handle the full 27W to capable devices.

    Phone Fast-Charging with USB-C PD

Since my phone only charges at 5W on the wireless pad and that's not fast enough to do much good on my typical short trips, I've been working on a solution to use that 27W-capable USB-C port in the center console. We found a manufacturer to make USB-C cables in the proper dimensions, made an...

Aftermarket Suspension with OEM Height and Softer Ride

Hold on a minute there. I started this thread in March of 2019, 9 months before Redwood's products were even announced. This has been a journey of me looking for a suspension kit that meets my needs and being educated about several things along the way, which is the point of a forum right? I...

Aftermarket Suspension with OEM Height and Softer Ride

Thanks! Just to be clear, that was a general physics statement, not specific to either of these suspensions. If you design for 1" of travel vs 0.5" of travel, given the same force applied, you're going to have to double your spring rate. F=kx. Though on that note, one thing I have been able to...

Aftermarket Suspension with OEM Height and Softer Ride

We have 50 or so feet of brick entrance to our subdivision and that's definitely quieter and smoother now. It just overall takes the edge off of any bumps. The only negative I've found is a little bit of rubber squeak on speed bumps. I tried to quantify the difference of various bigger bumps...

Aftermarket Suspension with OEM Height and Softer Ride

After multiple weeks of various delays, I finally have the @RedwoodMotors Grand Touring kit on and I've spent a week with it driving various roads around and playing with the damping settings. Overall, I'm well pleased with it. I've been working to get something like this for almost two years...

Ottosteer Tesla Model 3 Front License Plate Bracket?

Sorry to see that happen. Our initial prototype for SnapPlate used the factory plate mount with felt on the back. I still really like the look of it, but we decided against it because dirty felt still scratches paint.

Anyone switch from a M3 to a MY?

I've done well in life. In many aspects. I am thankful.

Anyone switch from a M3 to a MY?

I still have the 3 and my wife now has a Y. The main draws for us on the Y are the hatchback making the storage space so much more usable, more rear seat space, the larger glass roof, and the higher ride height. On the 3, we mainly like the better efficiency (and range) and lower price...

Aftermarket Suspension with OEM Height and Softer Ride

Thanks for the explanation. I get that the shaft is hidden behind the dust cover. My mistake. Can you explain more why droop is more important for the street. I certainly understand needing that travel for a pothole, for example, but isn't compression travel equally needed for a bump? I'm...

Aftermarket Suspension with OEM Height and Softer Ride

@zman222, I understand that the arrangement of the bump stop and dust cover are different from what I thought based on the photo I pulled from their site. Would you mind sliding the bump stop down on your car for another photo so we can see how much compression travel is available? Again, I...

Aftermarket Suspension with OEM Height and Softer Ride

I definitely have no intention of making false accusations and as I've said already, I have first hand experience that the Unplugged kit is an improvement over stock and I'm sure the MPP kit is as well, but is it as good as it could be given that it's designed to drop the ride height? My...

Aftermarket Suspension with OEM Height and Softer Ride

Please send a kit to review! I asked for a way to test this over a year ago and you told me to go find someone with it. These suspensions are so expensive and difficult to compare and you guys hold your specs so secret it's really hard to shop for these! It's like every company wants us to...

Aftermarket Suspension with OEM Height and Softer Ride

@zman222's post illustrates exactly why I chose to pass on the MPP comfort coilovers + a lift kit when I contacted them over a year ago about developing a luxury suspension kit for us. This photo of the rear shock clearly shows how it is riding directly on the yellow bump stop. This is the same...

Aftermarket Suspension with OEM Height and Softer Ride

Short answer, I haven't installed it yet. As I was driving home from picking the kit up, my car started making an awful noise when going over bumps and turning. I spent the morning tracking it down to the upper control arm ball joint, so I need to get that fixed before replacing the suspension...

Aftermarket Suspension with OEM Height and Softer Ride

No remote adjusters for me. They just make it easier to adjust the firmness of the ride. Once I have it set to my liking, I won't likely touch it again, but somebody who wants a soft commute during the week, but likes to hit the curvy roads on the weekend may want it. I picked up the kit...

Aftermarket Suspension with OEM Height and Softer Ride

Over the last year I've been working with a suspension company to do exactly that. Based on their recommendations, we kept the stock springs and replaced the dampers with Koni adjustables. The results were underwhelming. Rather than dump additional money into that project, when Redwood...

Front License Plate for Model Y

I definitely like the OEM looks of the Otto, but having the plate so close to the bumper, but not attached was a deal breaker for me. I know people use felt or rubber pads on the back side, but all it takes is one grain of sand to get between the pad and the bumper and it will wear right through...

Front License Plate for Model Y

Personally, I like the breakaway plate mount of the SnapPlate and I think the aesthetic blends in better with the car compared to the trellis design of the Quick Bandit, but it's great that we have so many options (like 6 or 7 now) when most cars have one. There's something for everyone in the...

Aftermarket Suspension with OEM Height and Softer Ride

My concern with the MPP kit is while it is adjustable from 10mm to 60mm drop, they do it using the spring preload setting rather than by changing the length of the damper body. The damper length is designed to be about a 35mm drop (right in the middle) and any adjustment outside of that has...

    Front license plate holder.

You're totally right that it breaks along the layers, but that was a conscious decision to print it in an orientation that the layers go where we wanted them. We actually have a version of the plate mount with reinforcement screws to put the layers there into compression which makes it quite...

Model 3 20" Referral Zero-G +40 Offset Wheels and Tires

Yeah that'd be a good thing to put in there wouldn't it. I'm seeing people asking $4500-4000, but no idea what they're actually selling for. So I guess I'll ask $4000.

Lucky for you, there are plenty of options to go that direction. A lot of us are coming from luxury cars though and since none of them can seem to bring a competitive EV to market, we're left to the aftermarket with Tesla.

Aftermarket Suspension with OEM Height and Softer Ride

Interesting. I'm sure this is another performance-oriented setup, not comfort. They're really light on information and that photo isn't even close to right since the rear springs are separate from the damper and they have a different top hat. Still, I'm glad to see more options entering the...

    The Bandit vs Slipstream Bracket

Do you have some experience suggesting that melting plastic in a 3D printer makes it inferior to melting plastic in an injection mold? No doubt each technology has pros and cons, but you just have to design for the tool being used. Like I said, we have well over 1000 SnapPlates on the road right...

    The Bandit vs Slipstream Bracket

This is exactly why I made SnapPlate. It goes on when I need it and stays off the rest of the time. I used an early prototype to get my fix-it ticket signed off. Why the plastic hate? Many plastics, like those used extensively on the car itself, are well-capable of standing up to the...

Anyone seen damage like this to the jack points?

Mine was delivered with the scuffs on the rocker panels, likely from loading or unloading it at some point. They took care of it the next time I had a reason to bring it in. Make sure they know about the issues as you find them, but bundle service trips together as best as you can.

Model 3 just arrived, which floormats are better?

The 3D MAXpiders were my favorite until TAPTES came out with a clone of them and fixed my two minor gripes by using a backing material that isn't scratchy and not putting a huge shiny logo on them. If I was in a snowy climate, TUXMAT all the way, but otherwise, TAPTES.
