Cheers - sounds promising. Its what I am hoping for / expecting. Trading the Etron for a model 3? :-)

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

Cheers - Ill look forward to testing out this on the 3. Im a big fan of of adaptive cruise - until I get behind people who dont drive smoothly. Still no definitive answer whether touching the brakes on light regen activates more regen prior to activating the friction brakes. Will find out...

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

Yep - similar with the PHEV but I just use the paddles down the freeway without hanging my foot on the accelerator. So can you run down the freeway on low regen without brakes or does it need to be in high? (the 3 could be different to your S of course)

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

Yes I can do this with the PHEV also but I find it less relaxing to drive (maybe its just me). I find the paddles which adjust the regen to be useful around town - often I will cruise downhill for a few km with zero or small regen and with no feet on pedals - yes I do have adaptive cruise also...

Regen question I havent seen an answer to .. If you set regen to 'low', then when you lightly touch the brake does it first increase the regen before actually applying the friction brakes? My PHEV does this and it is quite effective.

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

Looking at the docs in cimryan/teslausb it would quite likely do what you need, even with a bit of customising to regularly clear out some of the allocated 16GB (assume you mean GB not MB) to somewhere else safe. Unless you are a bit familiar with Linux it may be tough work though ...

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

Awesome - maybe some duct tape and you have 7x24 J tariff. My controlled load ripple controller has 30Amps written on it so that would be the max for me without the risk of it self destructing. Agreed. I like to get as much info as possible so that I can buy the right gear and get it...

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

Cool - thanks. Ill keep an eye on that one. Looks like it allows for copying footage over to your home WiFi so may do what you want. You can also run an SSD on an RPI => lots of storage if you want. Ill leave it for down the track when the 'new car' feeling starts wearing off.

As far as I am aware, by definition, controlled load is remotely controlled by the electricity supplier using a ripple control box. If you have one it will be in your meter box and pretty obvious. It will have an LED showing when the circuit is on. In practice I dont think the times change...

Agreed - thats logical. Murphy sometimes says otherwise :-) Let us know how you go with Tesla.

    Help with HPWC

Looking at your first photo I was thinking the red and purple? signal wires look like they have a pretty severe kink in them just before the crimp on connectors. A screwdriver slip while doing up the large neutral? Might be worth checking the continuity of those two - or trim and re crimp.

Or if you already have J Tariff / controlled load installed then the EV charger needs to be wired in with a changeover switch (either hot water or EV) apparently. I already have 3 phase solar with a not so smart meter (cost me about $800), plus controlled load with an old disk meter. Given...

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

No problem. Ill write up a parts list. If you have some IT and basic electronics skills its not too difficult. It does take up a bit of space in the meter box so I built up a second one for the sparky to wire in to the main one. Took me days ... took him an hour :-) If you have a Tesla...

Making my head hurt - but yes - similar to me. You can charge on controlled load (when available) at a good rate OR you can charge using solar (when its sunny) at a good rate. So it becomes a charging timing issue. I expect some University will have a degree in solar plans and charging...

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

My garage opener has one button ... if its down it goes up ... if its up it goes down. I Expect homelink would be useless for me as it has no idea what the inital state is - up or down. I expect there are plenty of doors like this.

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

Agreed - I have not seen evidence of anything other than a flat rate plus feedin rate on solar meters in SA. (and I paid a heap to get this dumb meter installed 4 years ago with my solar). You may want to check if an EV charger on its own would enable the install of the controlled load / off...

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

In SA there are no 'time of use' off peak tariffs which apply to your entire house consumption as far as I am aware. All we have is controlled load / off peak which is its own metered circuit with either a ripple controller or a simple fixed timer. Then we have the shameful state of play with...

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

Looks like the distributor not the retailer - possibly worse ... Not so good if you are in Vic under United Energy https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2795503 , or as Paulp says, in SA with a new service with Solar. Ausgrid in NSW seems OK with controlled load for a hardwired charger...

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

Guess this is a bit OT... but Very interesting! I bit of research on the Whirlpool green tech thread https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum/143 shows that controlled load in general seems to be getting marginalised by the retailers as paulp indicates - a bit at odds with the above. So they...

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

I havent heard this before either. My solar was installed about 4 years ago with controlled load remaining in tact. Solar feedin is 18c - controlled load costs 20c. I plan to hard wire the Tesla WC into the controlled load circuit also, but a couple of things ... - it is single phase only...

Sounds like a good option is to wait and see - possibly not a lot to gain by optioning now - unless its a big reason in its own right for buying the car.

Order in - White Performance. Was originally budgeting $90K for the expected LR AWD so Ill be eating baked beans for a while to make up the difference. Finally got my referral code entered in together with my reservation. Seemed to want to configure with either one or the other but not both...

Yes (they are) / Eventually / You keep waiting / Not yet as there's nothing concrete to be approved yet. Personally I will wait and order FSD later as - No LCTax later - Might be a special deal at some stage - I would like to see it approved and working (as you point out) in Aus.

Same choice here. Overall they are extracting more $ from me than originally intended - but Ive already messaged the kids that it will be coming out of their inheritance and they are fine with it :) I cant see any difference.

So early adopters have a limited model choice as expected and also limited options (eg no white interior / no 19" wheels). Upside is that what is offered is probably a fair compromise for both a 'value' and a 'performance' option. The optioned down performance model may not be available later...

Aus Model 3 order page open!

That was quick! Performance model without the 'performance extras' is interesting. I expect this will be a good option for a saving of $6,200 although many would want to option the 19" wheels which isnt available.

Aus Model 3 order page open!

Seem to be only 2 options at this stage .. Standard Range+ $66,000 ($70,277 drive away for SA) Performance $85,000 ($93,265 drive away for SA) Plus options...

    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

I have a Powerwall 2 and this appears to carry a referral code which I assume I can use for myself. So it may be existing owners of S/X/Roadster/Powerwall2.
