    Roadster 3.0

I asked them to put it in the trunk so I have it. I just didn’t want it installed on the car to keep the original look.

The touch screen immediately showed over 300 miles.

    Installing HVAC Knobs

The spares were provided when I bought the car. I think they were sourced from a Lotus supplier. They appear to be correct but could be just a bit too small. I also have the broken ones that were original equipment.

    Roadster 3.0

Thank you. The Rocklin, California service center did the install. I originally booked it for Fremont but switched to Rocklin, which seems to have caused an issue with getting all of the correct parts to the new location (even though I made the change weeks before the appointment). The new...

    Installing HVAC Knobs

It seems like it should be really easy to install new knobs for the fan speed and air path (i.e. HVAC controls) on the center console but my initial attempts have not been successful. I have pushed pretty hard and wiggled the knob back and forth with no success. My next steps would be to either...

    Roadster 3.0

Signature 100 #54 is now back on the road with a 3.0 battery. Limited use so far but everything seems to be operating as expected, except the TPMS module isn’t reading tire pressures and is throwing a fault. It took 2.5 months to figure out how to get all of the right parts to the right place to...

Any record of which VIN were test-driven in Bellevue before production?

btw - That car had a functioning 2-speed transmission, which was lots of fun and one of the few times "the public" got to experience the car that way.

Any record of which VIN were test-driven in Bellevue before production?

VP 11 was definitely there that day (Thunder Gray). I can't recall if there was a second car. There was a different car planned but it had an issue on the way up North. It was a long couple of days for the team transporting the car.

    Roadster 3.0

I suggest you have someone look at your logs to see if that sheet is consistently running hotter than the others. If it is then somebody should look at the car for a clogged cooling system or to see if the cooling tubes were installed in a way that they are not flowing properly (i.e. since the...

Where are they now? The first 100 Roadsters

I can't recall the exact delivery sequence but there were a lot of deliveries out of sequence at the time for various reasons. You were very close to the final assembly location, which makes a delivery much easier. Some cars had component failures or paint issues that needed resolution. Etc. You...

Where are they now? The first 100 Roadsters

Your records are correct TEG. I made the original delivery myself. I think it was the metallic black, which would explain why it looks a bit like Thunder Gray in the picture in direct light. That was also the last car built with the 1.0+ powertrain (i.e. 1.0 powertrain with 2-speed gearbox with...

    Roadster 3.0

I think they just desired to do the right thing for early customers. There wasn't an easy solution, they continued working on it, and came up with a creative solution that didn't require complicated rearchitecture. It wasn't announced sooner because they truly didn't know if there was a solution.

    New Battery Break-in ??

I agree Doug_G. Just make sure you are charging at a high enough rate that the car has time to sit at full charge and balance. When people use the 110V connector for primary charge the battery will often go out of balance because the car never quite makes it to full charge.

Roadster 1.5 Owners Wanting 3.0 Upgrade

asgard - you are generally correct, though Tesla upgraded a few prototypes from 1.0, or 1.5, to 2.0 spec. It requires a serious overhaul of the car, but it can be done. For purposes of a 3.0 battery upgrade though, they would need to develop it for the 1.5 car. I'm not sure what the exact issue...

Roadster 1.5 Owners Wanting 3.0 Upgrade

The pic is from my blog ;-) Re: P1 Arriving Now! :) | Tesla Motors Elon and JB do both have early Roadsters. I'm not sure that Elon is still driving his though. I had heard it is now on display, rather than on the road. I could be wrong here. I'm not sure what components JB's car has inside...

Roadster 1.5 Owners Wanting 3.0 Upgrade

wiztecy - I would like to make sure my support comes through properly. While I am not going to put down a deposit, I will buy a 3.0 battery immediately if it is made available, and the terms are acceptable (particularly price). As it stands now, I am an the category who are not buying, and just...

Roadster 1.5 Owners Wanting 3.0 Upgrade

Count me in as a signature, but I won't put down a deposit. The lack of communication around this issue doesn't give me confidence. Why should I put up a deposit without any details? I don't know weight, kWh capacity, timing, cost for a 1.5 variant, etc. As soon as it is available, I will buy...

Where are they now? The first 100 Roadsters

Six - The big battery does not work with the 1.5 powertrain (first 500 cars). Tesla does have a replacement battery available, but it is at the specs of the original. It has also been quoted at a price higher than the new, higher capacity battery. So I'm waiting to see how Tesla responds over...

    Who wants the "Creep" removed?

Creep was designed as a safety feature. Early prototypes did not have the creep and it was really easy to walk away from the car while still on and "in gear." Worst case scenario goes something like this: I jump in my Roadster to go down to the farmer's market to pick up ingredients for a...

Is it possible to remove the Roadster's foot rest?

The dead pedal cannot be easily removed. It is bonded in place and requires cutting to be removed. I have driven without the dead pedal and if you are over six feet tall it is definitely favorable. Just stretch your leg out and use the chassis as a footrest. Just make sure the cutaway...

    Odometer roll call

Balancing isn't the only thing to consider. Even with a perfectly balanced battery you may see a different range estimate when charging is initially complete and after the car has sat around for a while. Have you noticed that your range estimate isn't effected when you are parked on a hill...
  29. Z

    Odometer roll call

Balancing and Tesla Engineering Waiting more than an hour doesn't really do anything for you. The hour allows the systems in the car to properly understand the resting voltage and therefore calculate your expected range more effectively. The balancing itself happens at the very end of the...

    Odometer roll call

benji4, You should charge to full in Standard mode and let the car sit for an hour ideally. As Lancelac stated there is balancing that occurs in this time. There is no difference between 110 and 220 in this case other than many drivers don't see full charge +1 hour very often charging on 110...

    Is Ideal Range obtainable?

It is a complicated equation that would require long discussion, debate, and modeling to come up with the correct answer given a specific situation. But there are a number of general principles that will help you improve your consumption if desired. Performance mode does allow the battery...

    Is Ideal Range obtainable?

Battery Cooling dpeilow, Battery cooling turns on. Even if it is cold outside the battery will heat up on a long drive. Charging and driving in Range mode gives you the best chance of keeping cooling off but even then it will likely turn on toward the end of a long distance, full...

Tesla Quicktip: How to get in

The hard top may just scare people because it looks more solid and permanent. I can't think of any reason why it would be any more difficult and haven't experienced anything personally. It is certainly true that it is easier to get in and out with the top off but either way you are better off...
