NSW Tesla Energy Plan VPP Virtual Power Plant

I was hopeful, but the numbers do not seem to stack up for me based on my situation. I have 7kw of panels but considerable shading. I have a PW2 battery. I have almost no grid export occurring as I consume nearly all solar production. As a result, the 30c FIT (but only between 2pm-8pm) is...

Tesla App Utility plan configuration: Multiple Peaks, Buy/Sell Behavior, etc

My current rate utility plan at this time of year has no Peak rate period, just Shoulder and Off-Peak. The app no longer shows any data in Impact -> Time-of-Use (Graph data unavailable). If I scroll back to a month where I had a Peak tariff, I get data. Seems to be an app bug?

Tesla App Utility plan configuration: Multiple Peaks, Buy/Sell Behavior, etc

Just got utility rate plan feature. I'm in NSW, Australia. Interestingly, it coincided with PW f/w v22.1.1 Using Android app v4.4.4-847 Given most NSW (Australian?) ToU energy plans have Summer, Winter, and an Autumn/Spring season plan, the current 3 seasons maximum doesn't work. At least i...

Tesla app keeps giving “No recent data available” error

..and just like that mine is now working again. According to my Azure based app it started working on Tues 14 April at 05:30 (UTC+10)

Tesla app keeps giving “No recent data available” error

I've been getting same "No recent data available" on both my Android phone and tablet for the last couple of weeks. Tried clearing Tesla App cache and data but made no difference. My battery is running fine and I can connect to it via browser (I have my battery connected to my WiFi network as...

    Firmware 1.24.0? A busy day...2 updates...

..and god forbid if the official Tesla Software Updates page (Software Updates | Tesla) had anything!

    Firmware 1.21.0

"Storm Watch mode for selected regions” .. From the V3.4.3 app release notes. So far I've only seen people in the US report seeing this feature. Not clear whether it is dependent on a specific firmware version.

Grid Services monitoring and Storm Watch

Hmmmm.. still no Storm Watch for me (fw 1.20 app v3.4.3) here in AUS so I suspect "selected regions" is US only at this stage?

    Firmware 1.20.0

The other thing I've noticed in the last few weeks is that my ability to sustain a connection to my PW's TEG WiFi hotspot from my PC has become very unreliable. Even when it does connect, I often cannot connect to the PW itself. The web interface is definitely still on as I do get a successful...

    Time-Based Control?

Maybe you just need to leave it a bit longer (i.e. a month) so it "learns" your environment. I'm on a ToU plan and my system never starts discharging during Shoulder on weekdays when it is followed by a Peak period. It always waits until the Peak to start discharging. My system was definitely...

    Firmware 1.20.0

To add to the feedback on this to Tesla, I've sent them, and Elon Musk, this tweet (well, actually 3 tweets in a thread). Feel free to like, retweet, respond to, etc. Anthony Bennett on Twitter

Powerwall disconnected from WiFi and forced a cellular connection

If your install has a 3G connection you can always open up the gateway (dangerous due to live cables inside and not recommended) and physically disconnect it. While in there you could then plug in an Ethernet cable, or just roll back to using WiFi to connect to your network.
  15. A

Powerwall disconnected from WiFi and forced a cellular connection

The Powerwall has its own WiFi hotspot. Using a PC with Ethernet and Wifi NIC, use the WiFi to connect to the PW hotspot. The PW will have its own IP and you configure the PVOutput Integration service accordingly. My PW is outside my office and I've been uploading PW data to PVOutput for 9...

Just to clarify, you know that that is not correct right?

    Time-Based Control?

The first thought that popped into my mind was Tesla owners driving of to the nearest supercharger every day to fill up their car battery (for many owners, for free), drive home, and power their house.. for free. :)

    1.15.5

Thanks for that! Well they give us major versions at least.. 1.15, 1.16... but given there are so many minor revisions (1.15.1, 1.15.3, 1.15.7, etc) they could do better.

    Software versions for Powerwall 2?

In the first week after I had the TBC settings appear, I had those settings disappear temporarily. I assume it was just the app behaving weirdly, or a caching issue or something.
  20. A

    1.15.5

I'm still on 1.15.1 If I'm not mistaken, all the higher versions seem to be reported from folks in US and UK? Anyone in Australia on anything newer than 1.15.3? God help us if Tesla ever provided release notes on these firmware versions!
  21. A

    Time-Based Control?

Right. So the UK site still reflects the same Modes of Operation with Solar table as what the AUS site used to. it will be interesting to see if this also changes.
  22. A

    Time-Based Control?

Hmmmm.. looks like Tesla have also standardized on the Powerwall Modes of Operation with Solar. definitions. Back on this post from 2 weeks was what used to be on the Australian Tesla site - Time-Based Control? But now what is listed on the AUS and US sites are the same: - AUS - Powerwall...

    Time-Based Control?

Odd that there is now 3 different firmware versions in play; 1.15.1, 1.15.3, and 1.15.5, and it doesn't seem to relate to time-based control given there are people on 1.15.1 with T.B.C. and 1.15.5 without T.B.C.
  24. A

    Time-Based Control?

I've seen an interesting change in behaviour that I hope persists... As a reminder, I'm on Tesla T.B.C - Cost Saving and have a ToU tariff with a Shoulder period that is only marginally higher than my off-peak. My off-peak is 10pm-7am. What I had previously been observing is that as soon as I...
  25. A

    Time-Based Control?

...and now I'm getting discharging during "Peak" period that is really Shoulder period. "Gaming" the app to try and get optimal/desired behaviour jusy doesn't work. Looks like the only option is to give the feedback to Tesla and grin and bear it for now.
  26. A

    Time-Based Control?

actually, that was dumb as I'm getting grid charging during what is in reality shoulder period. I've changed it again so that the Peak periods are now extended to include the shoulder periods.
  27. A

    Time-Based Control?

Thanks for sharing that. I guess I should drop them an email about the issues I'm seeing with TBC not handling ToU tariff systems that have a FIT less than Off-peak, and Shoulder quite similar to Off-Peak, and the resulting battery discharging behaviour during Shoulder.
  28. A

    Time-Based Control?

It absolutely could. I'll have to monitor closely and see what behaviour changes, for better or for worse! It'll all be publicly visible here (Anthony's Tesla Powerwall) and here (Anthonys House 6.930kW | Live Output) for those equally curious. Yes, but that is why we've (well, at least I've)...

I'll go with whichever one of you gets there first! My money is on you Bernard :)
  30. A

    Time-Based Control?

So after continuing to watch the behaviour of my system with T.B.C set to Cost-Saving, I've edited my "Price Schedule" configuration from reflecting my tariff (Off-peak, Shoulder, Peak) to only having Off-peak and Peak. I extended all of the weekday Off-peak periods into the shoulder and on...
  31. A

    Time-Based Control?

Yeah, totally agree. And I'm certainly not wanting not expecting a lot more in the configuration. In my opinion, it should be a black box for the most part with all the smarts bring performed by the machine learning algorithms which will hopefully get much better over time. That said, machine...
  32. A

    Time-Based Control?

So the last 24 hours makes no sense to me... Starting from left.. 10:00pm (start of my off-peak) - battery is at 10% and it starts charging from grid. 3:40am - from 10pm through to 3:40am it fills battery back to 100% 4:00am - it lets the house consume battery.. all the way down to 50% 8:00am -...
  33. A

    Time-Based Control?

Nope. Didn't make it. 8:30pm and battery empty, well short of 10pm peak period end.
  34. A

    Time-Based Control?

I know. That's why I very deliberately called it out in my post. And I still can't work out how to get to that AUS page just navigating from the main support page.
  35. A

    Time-Based Control?

On an encouraging note, today if the first cloudy, overcast, slightly rainy in ages and last night the PW2 charged from the grid during off-peak to 83%. This is 25% higher than it's ever done previously so hopefully that is a sign that the forecasting prediction of low solar generation today was...
  36. A

    Time-Based Control?

Actually, now I've had more time to think about this, setting my weekend to 'all day off-peak' may not make any difference.. (I'll still try it to validate). If you review the Tesla Modes of Operation With Solar document, it will (or at least can) still discharge in Off-Peak, it just treats...
  37. A

    Time-Based Control?

If you haven't got T.B.C yet from Tesla, then if your Tesla app is set to 'Self-powered' then your house will always first discharge your battery before going to the grid for power. If you do have T.B.C, then that is odd, it really shouldn't discharge during off-peak. Can you clarify whether you...
  38. A

    Time-Based Control?

Until you get T.B.C - yes. Once you get T.B.C., you'll get same behaviour, but without having to manually switch the settings on a Friday :) You could also give BJReplay's Windows Service that I referenced a go to automate this process right now.
  39. A

    Time-Based Control?

You're right, I'll give that a go and see if it makes the battery behave the way I feel is most efficient. To some of my other points, this is one of the annoyances of the currently Tesla app's config of T.B.C. We should not have to 'mess with' settings to make the app behave the way it...

    Time-Based Control?

So, thought I'd share my experience so far with Tesla Time Based Control since I enabled it 11 days ago (Wed 4th April). First up, some 'baseline' data. I'm located in Sydney, Australia and my power retailer is Powershop (Ausgrid is the supplier). My 'effective' rates after 21% discount are...

    Time-Based Control?

I'm confused now. Below that I'm just seeing the % breakdown by source. Wasn't that there previously?
  43. A

    Time-Based Control?

There is no specific "charge from grid" controls in the app. It will do it automatically depending on how you configure the Time-based control. I'm in Sydney, have PV and battery, and early yesterday evening set it to "Cost Saving". As soon as it got to 10pm (the start of my off-peak period)...
  44. A

    Time-Based Control?

I just checked and find that I have it enabled now. Must've flicked over in the last 24 hours. I'm on PW2 1.15.1 and Android app 3.3.4-343 I'm based in Sydney.
  45. A

    Time-Based Control?

Great work! Looking forward to seeing the results. Hope you can also design it to factor in different scenarios other than your own, e.g. PV+battery with no grid charging ability.
