    Upper Control Arm Creak Options

I used This needle tip on a grease gun with lithium grease and had good results. I’m at 75k on my 2018 M3. In May 2020 at 26k, I had the drivers side front upper control arm replaced under warranty for the same issue. The replacement started creaking 2 months ago and became increasingly loud as...

    Undercarriage mat hanging down

My underbody panel also failed while driving in the rain last week . It was replaced under warranty without me having to argue for it being covered.

Buying advice: used 2018 model 3 or 2020 model 3

Assuming the wheel and interior color are the same Looks like you’d be saving $2,300 and getting FSD in order to take the older car. Plus there are potential sales tax savings depending on your situation. Four main things jump to mind. 1) Warranty. That 2018 is probably two years into its...

How do you carry your bike?

Inside the car with the larger (drivers side) rear seat split down. This allows for 2 passengers. I have to take the road bike’s seat off In addition to the front wheel and it’s a tight squeeze getting the rear wheel through the opening. I make sure to put it chain side up, and turn the handle...

“Wash-by-handers” in Northeast, what do you do in the Winter?

Last winter I washed it every 2-3 weeks When a 40+ degree day came around. I wear waterproof jacket, pants, boots and most importantly neoprene diving gloves. It’s the ice cold water on the hands that would be the limiting factor for me. You can also fill your buckets with warm water. I bought...

    Which Snows and Why Poll?

I saved $40 a tire going with 225/45/18 Pirelli Sottozero 3s from Tire Rack. They were only $140 a tire after a rebate where the 235/45/18s were $180. The load rating on the 225s is 95 instead of 98, but for my LR RWD, it is still within the limit. The wheels I picked were 18 x 7.5 (Enkei EKM3...

    Head check vs Screen check

My goal is to still turn my head but also listen for the blind spot warning chime, which should give you similar info to the screen. But sometimes I just glance at the screen and skip the head check.

How does every clean their model 3? Is Automatic car wash a bad idea?

Consider getting some neoprene diving gloves if you want to hand wash on cold (but not freezing) winter days. I picked up a 3mm pair on Amazon for $15 and it makes hand washing bearable even when using very cold water from the tap.

Bump to 325 mi range and 5% power

The Tesla Model 3 compare page also has the “EPA est” on the just those two models.
  11. Z

    Model 3 Software Update 2019.5.x

The Tesla site only says “EPA est” for the SR and LR RWD. This could be because they’re using the more optimistic EPA numbers to raise the min and max range of the lineup. Or maybe those are the only two configs tested by the EPA for range. I want to believe my LR RWD is getting additional...

Bump to 325 mi range and 5% power

Regarding the 325 mile range figure, on the Model 3 order page, the standard range and long range RWD both say “EPA est” under the range number. The other configurations do not include that phrase. Maybe this is evidence of no actual new range being unlocked on the LR RWD. That would also...

    Banging noise over bumps

The cause of the noise was a sub-frame bracket that needed to be tightened. Concern: #VSC [CAT1]:Hard acceleration and hitting a bump, Customer hearing a pretty loud bang. Corrections: Exterior NVH General Diagnosis Technician verified concern with customer. Technician identified re-torquing of...

    Banging noise over bumps

I tried removing everything and the noise remained. So it’s definitely coming from the car itself. The noise doesn’t bother me much. I love the car. I’m just worried that something is getting stressed in a way it’s not designed for and may eventually fail.

    Banging noise over bumps

Has anyone experienced or learned about a banging noise coming from the rear of the car when going over bumps? It seems to happen almost exclusively under hard acceleration. It happens on my M3 (26xxx) anytime I encounter a fairly minor road imperfection while flooring it. My main theory is...

    New vs Old Rear Seats

I’m 6’3” and can’t sit straight up in the new rear seats. I fit by a fraction of an inch but hit my head when the car hits any meaningful bump. And my height comes more from my legs than my torso so some slightly shorter people may have issues too. All the early YouTube videos showed people...

    Speaker static from some songs

I definitely noticed the same thing. To me it sounds like static, and it’s not subtle. Ive only had my car (26xxx) a few days so my sample is small. It’s only happened on perhaps 5% of the songs I’ve played via the streaming option. It always goes away when I skip that song. It’s never happened...

    Acceleration from 0-25.

I like the camera idea. I know next to nothing about video editing, but it should be possible to set up a camera with the speedometer in view and then get an acceleration curve based on time stamps or knowing the frame rate of the camera. I’ll try it. Maybe people could even do this from old...

    Acceleration from 0-25.

I went with the 18” aeros with the thought of possibly putting winter performance tires on the wheels if I wasn’t happy with the all seasons in the snow. And then I’d buy different wheels with summer performance tires for spring thru fall. I still might do this but I don’t think it’s going to...

    Acceleration from 0-25.

    Acceleration from 0-25.

Two days ago, I picked up my M3 at the Highland Park location. I’m very, very happy with it. But I do feel that the power is obviously dialed down when starting from a dead stop. The reasons I believe this are: 1) I drove at 6:15 AM on a Sat with almost no traffic and wet roads that hadn’t seen...

    Dual motor coming before SR

Looks like dual motor is coming before RWD SR. Dual motor will be offered in both SR and LR. I say this because my delivery estimator just had big changes. I made my reservation as a non-owner, 3/31/16 online order from Chicago. Earlier today, my estimates were: First Production: Feb - April...

Wiki Model 3 Order Tracking Spreadsheet

For fun, I looked at the reservations from the spreadsheet that weren't missing In Store vs Online or Owner vs Non-owner. Of course, people not updating the sheet when they get an invitation to configure will falsely leave some reservations in the "Remaining" category. I'll update this every...

Longer wait time for Standard Range than Long Range Model 3s?

I am with you. PUP is also a requirement for me. But I'll pay up for the LR before waiting beyond the full tax credit cutoff coming 6/30 or 9/30 (or God forbid 12/31). I'm not sure LR is worth $9,000 to me, but it is worth $5,250.

Longer wait time for Standard Range than Long Range Model 3s?

They could possibly just open up the SR option to certain reservations. So if you and I were both waiting for SR after getting our invites, but you were higher in the queue, they could simply add the SR option to you when you configure but it would still be blocked for me. Tesla wouldn't have...

    Battery Size thoughts

If Tesla crosses the 200,000 threshold in Q2, then buyers will still be eligible to receive the full tax credit for 3 to 6 months, through Q2 and Q3. If they don't cross the threshold until Q3, then the full tax credit would still be available through the end of the year. Since Tesla should be...

Longer wait time for Standard Range than Long Range Model 3s?

Once Tesla starts manufacturing the standard range version (SR), one would expect there to be a burst of orders from those who have already been invited to configure but are waiting for SR. This, on it's own, might create a longer wait time for these orders than what people are experience now...

    Battery Size thoughts

There are 4 reasons I will probably get the first production, long range version: 1) Performance: The long range is claimed to be .5 seconds quicker to 60, it’s not a huge deal. Though the added weight will give the base battery a handling bump. 2) Tax savings: If Tesla crosses the threshold in...

Model 3 in Chicago area now

I’m a Chicago reservation holder, but not a previous Tesla owner. I ordered 3/31/16 about 5 min after the cars came onstage. My estimate says Feb - April for the first production version. If any Chicago non-owner gets an invite, I’d love to hear about it. Also, I’m thinking day one Chicago...
