I'm saying a new build that matches his car's specs is $56k. I'm not looking at what he paid for it. It doesn't matter if you CAN get a new one for $47k if it doesn't match the one he's selling. I assumed we were comparing apples/apples.

I have a Model X from June 2017. We bought from a private seller and the lifetime supercharging transferred to me. Not sure why if your date is correct but the car I have was definitely ordered after the date you listed.

This really isn't that hard. if you want the car now, make a reasonable offer. If you want the tax credit too, wait and then you can buy the car yourself. The OP has zero obligation to factor in his tax credit if he/she can even use it.

If I bought a used car and I now have free supercharging, didn't it stay with the car, at least through me? Or am I missing part of this discussion?

I bought a used MX that was manufactured in June 2017, and free supercharging transferred to me. Tesla was clear it wouldn't transfer if I sold it, though.

Sorry just saw this. No can do :). He's promised that I get final right of refusal prior to selling the car. I don't see it getting past me.

How about the possibility that everyone doesn't consider buying a Tesla to be purely financial transaction and are willing to pay a little more now than wait? There is clearly a demand to pay more for these cars than retail, even though that might go away soon. Also, IMO, if you're in the market...

Thanks, I keep going back and forth on this. I have the X and I absolutely love to drive. I think I'll be the same way with the 3 but it just makes me nervous to buy a vehicle without having ever driven one like it.

When you say trip meter, do you mean the percentage google maps gives that it expects the car to be at when I stop? And no offense taken. When we bought the car, we knew the beach would be the one trip we would have difficulty planning.

If you're going to put in that much effort, to be fully transparent you need to include the destination fee in your analysis. Also, for some people, getting the car now vs. June is a positive.

Just browsing through the M3 sales on eBay for the last week or so, they are still going $3-5k above sticker. One did sell at sticker but all other ones were higher. This one does have higher miles but my guess is that 1700 miles won't deter someone who really wants one.

If he's selling in the $90k range, I'd be happy to beat that price in cash. There is a low supply of 2017's (which IMO are more in demand because of AP2) so there is a premium on these vehicles.

This is just wrong on so many levels. Also, you need to stop watching movies if you think reporting this tax credit will land you in jail in the event you are audited and the IRS determines that it isn't a legitimate credit.

I would encourage you to at least provide a starting point. I am in the market for an X and yours meets a lot wants/needs (other than the 5 seater :)). If the price is right, I would even be willing to fly out for a test drive and then ship it if the numbers made sense. But without a starting...
