    Tesla service then and now

To add to the litany above, I have been trying to get my first annual service done for a while. Because of my schedule, I really want an early morning appointment. I don't know how long the service will take and will need a loaner or, at least a ride to work. Unable to get a living human on...

    Sudden Unexpected Acceleration today

This thread has been going for a while, and i apologize if I am beating a dead horse, but I'd like to add a recent observation that adds credence to the concept of "they pushed to wrong pedal." Was out with Mrs. JPAZ in her i3. We were parallel parking when she suddenly accelerated...

If not a Tesla, then what would you get?

Some late follow-up. Mrs JPAZ LOVES her i3. She uses it daily and just plugs in each night into the 220v outlet we added. We've got my 50 amp outlet on my side and her 20 amp on her side. Just the other day she commented on how long it has been since she went to a gas station :) The only...

    Ouch but no ouch

After quite a delay (parts took a while), the vehicle is now "in paint" and it may be back in my hands by week's end. We'll see.

    Ouch but no ouch

Don't have the details yet (will get an email) but preliminary estimate done. Bodyshop says should take 11 days barring surprises once the get the parts. Hopefully the parts will not be the delaying issue. Will keep you posted.

    Ouch but no ouch

I left the car at the Tempe SC waiting for the insurance approval and then had it taken to the body shop (shop approved by Tesla) where it now sits waiting. Funny, the software updated last night while at the body shop. Kudos to the crew at the Tempe SC. They were very helpful under the...

    Ouch but no ouch

Sad day for me........but I am impressed more than ever with the safety engineering in my S. Ironically, was en route to the SC in freeway traffic when someone in a 1991 truck rear-ended me. I suspect he was going about 55 mph and I had slowed to a crawl. The good and the bad: My rear bumper...

If not a Tesla, then what would you get?

Have our i3. For a "city car" it is pretty nice. Some information / updates: Visiting our son in Bay Area (irony is we actually drove past the Tesla Factory) we were able to try out the Bolt. The good is the roominess, range and electric motor torque. The bad is the rear window visibility...

If not a Tesla, then what would you get?

End of story..…...Wife really likes the i3. Here's the lowdown: Can't test drive a T3 (waiting list) and the availability of the "base" models are possibly years away. Her cousin has a Bolt and it is nice. Right now, have to order and wait for one in our town. Historical issues with the...

Arizona, the good and the bad

So looks count.......we have a very fancy garage door with frosted glass in the panels. The dreaded HOA will not let us change it. Door insulation is out. Garage to house walls are very well insulated. I am contemplating a vent with fan to the outside. That will be costly. My biggest...

Arizona, the good and the bad

For those of us in the Southwest, the summer heat is here. I've noticed the vehicle is a bit noisy when I first get in and drive off and presume it is the battery cooling system doing its thing. So far, ,it has been as high as 117 Fahrenheit, based on the thermometer reading on my dash panel...

Advice on ICU / MCU issues (S90D 2017)

Just noticed the "yellow" border around my screen yesterday. I was thinking it was just a shadow from the surround but based on this thread it is real.

    Vampire drain avoidance

Just back from a prolonged trip. I set the car up as recommended and did not ever use the app to check on it while gone. After 22 days (with the car parked outside in the Arizona heat) the vampire drain rate was about 2.1 miles per day. (305 to 257 miles on dash indicator). The car unlocked...

“Systems Are Powering Up. Press Brake When This Message Clears

Since the summer heat hit in our area, the car does make a bit of motor noise when I first start off. I am sure this is the same issue (cooling fan) and it goes away after about 10 minutes of driving.

    Sudden Unexpected Acceleration today

Related (but unrelated) is my inadvertent click of the small stalk in my S (the one associated with AP and Cruise) instead of the turn signal which caused surprise unintended acceleration while changing lanes. This made me a whole lot more careful when activating the turn signal. I felt the...

Supercharger - Phoenix, AZ - East Camelback Road

There's also a Volta charger (2 J1772 stations, I believe) west of the SC at the other end of the parking garage). The only "problem" I've had here is that the SC works so well, I don't always get enough time to have a leisurely meal before I've got to go out and move the car. That is a tough...

    Sudden Unexpected Acceleration today

FYI....turned on creep and found it not to my liking. As I said before, I used to drive a manual ICE. I found myself "creeping" to day when I expected the car to be still. I shut it off again. Guess it is just what one is accustomed to.
  19. jpaz

    Sudden Unexpected Acceleration today

All read with interest. Maybe I'll turn "creep" on (turned it off the day I got the car). But I drove manual transmission ICEs for years so having the "creep" off is no different than depressing a clutch. I've had the opposite experience many times when using "auto park." As the car slowly...

New Maps for Model S and X

Crazy thing. While parked at the airport with Power Saving and "always connected" set to limit my vampire drainage, the new maps downloaded. I was not connected to Wifi. This happened over the two days I was out of town. Go figure!

If not a Tesla, then what would you get?

Really appreciate all the very informative replies. Add to my context that I live in central Arizona and it gets quite hot so battery cooling is an issue.

If not a Tesla, then what would you get?

My wife is thinking about an EV. She wants something small for short trips around town. We are going to test drive anything and everything we can think of but frankly, don't want to get a second Tesla (only for budget reasons). Just throwing this out to see what others feel they might do. I...

“Systems Are Powering Up. Press Brake When This Message Clears

Just happened again. Today, car parked at work for about 8 hours. In shaded parking structure and not hot out. After a few minutes became drivable but needed “two button” reboot to get ac, radio and middle screen working

Supercharger - Phoenix, AZ - East Camelback Road

FYI, it is called "Short Leash" which started a food truck a few years back. A bit quirky but quick and good (if that's what you are looking for) and even has a vegetarian option. Also, in the center, is Wink 24, a pizza place (I've not yet tried but looks crowded so must be OK), Seasons 52...

    My first flat........

Follow up......... Got call this AM that tire fixed and to arrange for Mobile Service to come to me and put tire / wheel back on. Since it was actually convenient for me to go to the SC, we set that up. They put the patched, remounted and balanced wheel / tire back on (took about 15 minutes)...

    My first flat........

Got a call from SC. Tire is "repairable" and they will do it. Pleasant surprise is that they will also bring it back to me and have Roadside re-install the repaired tire. But, there is a tire repair fee.

Supercharger - Phoenix, AZ - East Camelback Road

Maybe this will insure there are always spots for charging! ;) BTW, I am one of those people who plugs in and grabs a meal from one of the restaurants in the shopping center. Gotta eat somewhere, you know.

    My first flat........

Ongoing saga........SC is putting me in queue. Can't schedule appointment until they get back to me (they say within two days) with schedule openings and a price. I've learned an important lesson: 1 - Will definitely get a pump and repair stuff (although it won't always work depending on the...

    My first flat........

Awoke to first flat (not even 5000 miles on the car). Used the new Roadside Assist contact on the 10.4 release. First, they could not find me in their database. Once we established the vehicle and my status, they had trouble “finding” me on the map (I am in a major metrpolitan area) which...

Supercharger - Phoenix, AZ - East Camelback Road

I find it kind of interesting that this location went from "pending" to open and running so quickly while the other new location (Agua Fria) took much longer and seems to be having some technical issues. The few times I've been to the Biltmore (a.k.a. East Camelback SC) it's been pretty busy...

    Software Update 2018.10.4

Got 10.4 and AP is definitely smoother. Autopark works better. But what is weird is that "Lane Change" no longer works. Rebooted, checked that the switch is on, but when cruising down an empty freeway, putting on the signal direction does not cause me to change lanes.

    Personal safety while charging

Just wondering, when I use a J1772, I "unlock" the charge port with the app on my phone so I can pull out the adapter. Has anyone tried unlocking the charge port and driving off while remaining plugged in? Not sure it would be good for the vehicle but if I stop charging and unlock the port...

    Personal safety while charging

not to be overly (or underly - if that's a word) concerned but maybe future SC's should be more of a "pull-through" design so it would take something both in front of and behind you to block you from driving off.

“Systems Are Powering Up. Press Brake When This Message Clears

Interesting. Same thing happened to me tonight. I figured it was because I parked in an airport for 48 hours and set Power Saving to on and unchecked the continuous communication box. First, the proximity unlock did not work (but the key-fob click did). Then, I loaded my luggage into the...
