What's your next EV after Tesla?

So my next EV became the i4 M50 after having both the Model S and the Model 3. So far it works way better as a car but less fun as a tablet.

    Polestar 2 Test Drive

They are different kinds of cars but I prefer the Polestar. Far better interior quality than my Model 3, I like the design way more, it’s quieter and more comfortable. I also like it being less open to the outside and having more of a cockpit feel with the digital drivers display. With Tesla...

    PPF or Ceramic?

I've had both on different Model 3s and ceramic on my S, the S did great with just ceramic but that was a 2018 and my detailer said the paint was much harder than the 3 has. My 2020 3 had PPF and my 2021 3 has ceramic and the 3 really has poor paint, loads of paint chips and it gets scratches...

New Tesla Model 3 extended range locked me out, Tesla refused to help

Wasn't meant as an insult really and more an expression of an age category. As I said in a later message it just reminded me a bit of how my grandfather who was an engineer would talk when he didn't want to admit that he didn't fully understand some newer technology.

New Tesla Model 3 extended range locked me out, Tesla refused to help

Stereotypical old person voice, especially subsequent messages with the incorrect statement about how the technology works defended with "I am an engineer, ... , I know how technology works" just made me read it in the type of voice my grandfather would have when talking about the technology he...

New Tesla Model 3 extended range locked me out, Tesla refused to help

Anyone else read the whole thing in a boomer voice? The important question is how the phone was setup, was it as a phone key or not? And what troubleshooting steps were done to resolve it? Been carrying my phone as a key for years now and not bringing my wallet. You are risking not being able...

    Model 3 2021 Suspension Revisions?

Believe me it is very noticable, especially in my neighbourhood where you have to go up and down one of those cut off curbs when going a specific route. Tire pressure was the same in all instances and the tires were the same as well, nowadays I am even able to run my 2021 at 3.1 bar instead of...

    Model 3 2021 Suspension Revisions?

My mid 2021 is a lot smoother than my early 2020 over bumps or on bad roads, I also think the suspension is the reason there’s less tire noise. Both are very noticeable.

    Tesla Refreshed S Review

Great looking car! Waiting for mine in the same colour but it is taking forever for them to get it over here to EU.

    Model S Plaid MSM Journal

There are more German manufacturers than Porsche though, the OP compares it to their BMW which is a German manufacturer, the Taycan is a lot more expensive so I would expect it to be of a higher quality. So you don't have to be as good as the Taycan to be comparable to the Germans. My point was...

How’s the yoke steering wheel feel?

Of course, because how we control the car has more to do with what we are used to rather than it has to do with one way being inherently better, they are just different. Anyone who have done any sort of sports and then "changed stuff up" knows that your brain will relearn, that's why it is...

    Model S Plaid MSM Journal

A Taycan doesn't work if you have friends or adult children you want to go on trips with, I don't understand how they managed to make it so small inside. Also the interior design is best described as cluttered with all those different screens. One of the best looking EVs on the outside but as...

    PPF or no PPF

Didn’t do my S and it held up fine for the time I had it (18 months). Got full PPF on my first 3 and I did regret it, had ugly lines in some places since they didn’t remove headlights/taillights and such before putting it on. My second 3 only has PPF on the lower points along the sides. Been...

    Level 3

Yep, because that is all the current regulation allows for. Hopefully they will vote through the amendment to raise the top speed to 130 km/h this year. I also hope we will see an implementation across EU so you can use it everywhere.
  15. O

    Level 3

Yes, it is launching early 2022 in Germany. Regulatory approval seems to already be done.

MASTER THREAD: 2021 Model 3 - Charge data, battery discussion etc

I am wondering if this is an issue for anyone else or if it’s a problem just with my car. Pre conditioning uses insane amounts of energy now and the navigation is not taking it into acocunt. A trip a jump between superchargers was impossible according to the nav if we navigated between...

Model Y Performance or Model S Plaid?

I am personally trying to decide between the Y LR and the S LR, wife thinks the S we had was too big and the refreshed one is slightly wider while I want something more quiet and comfortable than our 3. Hard choices, might come down to test driving the S when it comes to Europe, and I can always...

Yeah it might have. The new table looks to be correct yes, good that eivissa always have a lot of information :).

MASTER THREAD: 2021 Model 3 - Charge data, battery discussion etc

Where are you getting the charge times for 10-80% from for the E3LD packs? Because they do not match what eivissa has shared before regarding them. I get it to be around a 5 minute difference in 10-80% between E3LD and E3D. That would also mean the difference to the E5D matches the differences...

You are missing that sales people often make claims that has no basis in fact.

MASTER THREAD: 2021 Model 3 - Charge data, battery discussion etc

Yeah I see I mixed ideas in my head, I didn’t mean to suggest it was unbalanced but rather uncalibrated. Since letting it sit at different SoCs might help with the calibration.
  22. O

MASTER THREAD: 2021 Model 3 - Charge data, battery discussion etc

Couldn’t it just be a severe case of a unbalanced battery? Because parking the car for hours at different SoCs are supposed to help the BMS learn at that point. So if you drain it to 40/30/20/10% and let it sit half a day at each maybe it would learn what is correct?

MASTER THREAD: 2021 Model 3 - Charge data, battery discussion etc

Got an update from Tesla magically today (after talking to my sales contact yesterday). Apparently when they said “we have no clue when we can have a pack in EU” last week what they wanted to say was that the pack assigned for me will get to EU this week so it was sent before my car broke down...

MASTER THREAD: 2021 Model 3 - Charge data, battery discussion etc

Yep, got that at least but it does smell bad inside according to my wife so it’s not really that much fun to use. Had some small trips planned that won’t happen now but that’s life.
  25. O

MASTER THREAD: 2021 Model 3 - Charge data, battery discussion etc

You are assuming they either send one instantly when needed or that they routinely send them to have them in stock. For all I know they could wait 6 months before they even send it out because it would mean more profit for Tesla. So until I can get some sort of time frame from Tesla I will not...
  26. O

MASTER THREAD: 2021 Model 3 - Charge data, battery discussion etc

Well unless they can make sure their packs are 100% working (which they can’t) they have to keep an inventory of spare parts on the right continent. Their other option is buying back cars that break because having a repair time that long is not considered reasonable by law. Otherwise they could...

MASTER THREAD: 2021 Model 3 - Charge data, battery discussion etc

Could he have gotten a remanufactured battery? Because since my odometer just hit 500 km before it broke they said they wouldn’t give me a remanufactured pack and instead a brand new one. Still think they should keep those in stock as well though…

MASTER THREAD: 2021 Model 3 - Charge data, battery discussion etc

I’d check with Tesla now if your car is drivable because a new pack takes a long time to get so you don’t want it to die on you. My E3LD pack made a loud bang while driving away from my first supercharging stop and the car died, they have had the car for 2 weeks and so far all I know is they...

MASTER THREAD: 2021 Model 3 - Charge data, battery discussion etc

Might be why there are no 82 kWh Panasonic packs available at Tilburg, I thought they would stock some replacement packs to be honest but if they are going for LG packs from china going forward that might be why they didn’t. I am having to wait for one from the US to be sent to Sweden after mine...
  30. O

MASTER THREAD: 2021 Model 3 - Charge data, battery discussion etc

Yeah it’s a E3LD. Okay, so that would mean that 90% is only around 85% in reality. I’d check how many kWh it charges above 100% but my battery died spectacularly earlier this week so the car is in service.
  31. O

MASTER THREAD: 2021 Model 3 - Charge data, battery discussion etc

Does that mean that the capacity above 78 kWh is outside of the displayed state of charge so that when I charge to say 90% it doesn’t really charge to 90%?

How do you live with the wind/tire noise? Comparing to Model S.

Got a 2019 loaner the other day, so got another data point when comparing my Q2 2021. Road and tire noise was a lot higher than my new one (slightly worse than my 2020 model), wind noise was about as non existent as the new one so I think the slightly higher wind noise in my 2020 one was due to...

    Why should I get a 3 instead of a Y?

Do you need the space or not? I don’t really need the space of the Y so the 3 is the car for me, the one thing I am missing is a foldable middle rear seat for ski’s. But otherwise the 3 is better, longer range, smaller exterior, quicker and so on.
  35. O

How do you live with the wind/tire noise? Comparing to Model S.

I have driven around 6 pre 2021 Model 3’s, my 2020 was one of the quieter ones so I don’t think it is just due to inconsistent build quality, the difference is really noticable. I doubt the acoustic glass does much for tire noise but something is clearly different, everyone who has been in the...

    When will you upgrade?

Upgraded my 2020 3 for a 2021 now in Q2 and I am very happy I did, a lot of improvements. Got the quieter cabin, an interior that is a huge step up, factory chrome delete, longer range and a lot of other small things. With used prices being what they are it wasn’t a huge cost to upgrade either.
  37. O

How do you live with the wind/tire noise? Comparing to Model S.

The Q2 2021 I got is WAY better than the 2020 one I had before when it comes to tire and wind noise, I would say it is on the same level as my 2018 Model S that I had before. The comfort is better as well, had to run 2.9 bars in the tires before and the new one was more comfortable and quiet...

MASTER THREAD: 2021 Model 3 - Charge data, battery discussion etc

Most of his tests leave a lot to wish for really, and most of the times his “conclusions” are not supported by the data he himself has presented. But, it is worth watching because as you did we can get data and do our own analysis on it.

    2021 Model 3 and differences from 2020

Yeah but the reports of a lot less noise started coming now in Q2 even though the acoustic glass was introduced earlier. Also I am unsure if that change alone would have that big an impact.

MASTER THREAD: 2021 Model 3 - Charge data, battery discussion etc

Have you also noticed it being quieter? More people in Sweden have been reporting they also notice is being quieter as I did.

Blog EPA Gives Range Rating for Model S Long Range

If the pack was the same size and they decreased weight and their Cd number I would have expected a bigger improvement in range. The pack definitely seems smaller.

Remember when all the pilots here were like FINALLY A YOKE!

Gonna be interesting testing the yoke out when it comes over to Europe actually, I think it is just a muscle memory thing, you have to relearn some stuff. I think the indicators will be the thing that might get annoying since they are on the wheel, always thought Ferrari was crazy for doing...

Blog EPA Gives Range Rating for Model S Long Range

Who says the pack is bigger? I am expecting it to be smaller based on the improvements they made and the very slight range increase.

    2021 Model 3 and differences from 2020

I am in Europe so we get Pilot Sport 4 on both of the Model 3, don’t know if theres a new version there as well. It shouldn’t reduce the wind noise either way but it could of course make a difference with the tire noise.
  45. O

    2021 Model 3 and differences from 2020

Yeah, maybe it is just the glass then, I was just surprised by the difference to both tire and wind noise. I haven’t tried the Q1 2021 version so I cannot comment on differences between them but I was wondering if there might have been further changes between Q1 and Q2 in typical Tesla fashion...

    2021 Model 3 and differences from 2020

I don’t know if it is something they did lately in Q2 or something with all the 2021 models but I just switched from a 2020 to a 2021 and me and everyone else that has been in the new car have found it to be quite a bit more quiet than the old one. I also did not think my 2020 was louder than...

    What's next for model 3?

I mean the S was always a lot more quiet and it also has a lot of glass and frameless doors and according to the early test drives of the refreshed S it is even quieter even though ANC isn‘t turned on yet. So I think there is a lot they can do. Speaking of which, just changed my Q1 2020 Model 3...

    What's next for model 3?

I am hoping and think that they keep improving sound insulation and will add adjustable suspension. 4680 cells are definately coming at some point, also hoping for a foldable rear middle seat like the Y has. I’d love to see a powered frunk but doubt that will happen.

    Auto Dimming Mirrors.... Kinda Dark

Good, had them on my S and on my current 3 and they are awesome in my opinion. Why are they too dark? The point is you are supposed to see headlights in them without being blinded by the light, that means you won’t see as much as clarity as during the day of course but is that a problem at night...

    Auto Dimming Mirrors.... Kinda Dark

So wait? New cars don’t have auto dimming mirrors? Then I might have to cancel the car I am planning to pick up next week. It is down right dangerous without that feature. The site still lists the side mirrors as being auto dimming though.
