Looking for thoughts on Model S LR (refresh) vs. M3P

I get in the car, put my foot on the brake, put on my seatbelt, tap the brake again and the car 'shifts' or energizes reverse automatically. Very nice, and then after backing out of the garage, swipe the screen to go forward. Not that the 3 was hard to shift, I do prefer the S method.

Smart Summon Not Working with the Refreshed S

There is hope, as mine works now. Not great, but it does usually work.

Looking for thoughts on Model S LR (refresh) vs. M3P

I sold my 3P and got a '21 LR about 1 year ago. Both cars are great, the MS is way bigger, smoother and faster at speed. It is a luxury car, the 3P is a sportier car. I have come to really like the yoke once they fixed the turn signals. The shifting is better and their is less vibration in the...

Been very quiet on releases for awhile. Could it be a nice big unified build be coming????

more on rattles in rear door area

+1 on folding the seats down first. Most common issue is the seat latch and very easy to test before taking the door apart and risk breaking the connectors.

    Brakes suddenly stop working

It sounds like you went with the same size tires front and rear, which is far from what Tesla did. The computer is setup to analyze the wheel speed of 255/45 front and 285/40 tires rear. You have changed that ratio which will completely confuse the ABS system of any car, especially near the...

    Model S LR 2021 vs 2022

Get the car now and enjoy it. Mine is a very early build that I have been thoroughly enjoying for over 6 months.

Poll: Stalks; or haptic wheel buttons and on screen ‘shifting’

I enjoy driving the car on a nice road. I do not enjoy driving in stop and go traffic. FSD does not prevent you from driving, it just gives you an option when you don't want to drive. I sold my 911, not because of how it drove, but because it was an incredibly rare day (about 200 miles per year)...

Refreshed Model S - rear seat rattle

You can see the tape on the top. It was bumping the round stop on the bottom.I am sure adjusting the stop would work but I didn't know if I should go up or down and didn't want to risk damaging the hood.

Refreshed Model S - rear seat rattle

Another satisfied customer! The tape on the bracket silenced the seats. The cabin is really quiet now, and ANR isn't active yet. An FYI, the other rattle the car had sounded like it was under the dash, but I discovered the hood tapped on the stop by the hinged in the frunk. A bit of soft tape...

    Refreshed MS LR/Plaid Firmware status

Thanks @MorrisonHiker! I knew I had to be just missing something simple, on the refreshed S you have to open the controls menu and there it is. I was just thinking it was on the task bar.

    Refreshed MS LR/Plaid Firmware status

What am I missing, how do I report problems with the FSD. If I click the dash cam is just says "can't load unless in park" or something like that. Saying "report" in the mic usually displays something else. What am I missing?

I have a hundred miles to drive today, but am still waiting at 2021.36.8.10. How will I possibly manage with such old software

    Key card storage

You must tap the charger to start the car with the card. It does not need to stay there. Phone generally is a much better solution, as is the key fob. Card is really a valet only thing for most people.
  18. JADCa

Model S plaid vs. Model 3 Performance

The problem is not the brakes, it is the speed is way more than the drivers are use to. Bigger brakes DO NOT help the car stop better. ALL bigger brakes do is provide better cooling for repeated stopping. So anyone who is doing repeated stops to prove the brakes are bad doesn't understand the...

Model S plaid vs. Model 3 Performance

They are completely different cars. They both have WAY more performance than needed on the street, neither are really track cars. They are both great, decide if you want a smaller, sportier car or a bigger, more luxurious car. Based on the OP not being an experienced fast driver, I would even...

    Key card storage

I sometimes leave mine in the glove box, but you could easily hide it in the frunk or hatch if you are really worried about it. Few people steal Teslas, and those who try are usually either real pro's or real idiot's. The pro's don't break into cars hoping for a hidden card, the idiots don't...

    Wiki FSD Beta 10.4

Just test drove 10.4 on my new S. It may have just been luck, but FSD was much improved. Zero disengagements or scary maneuvers. Turns were smoother and overall, if it always drove that well, it could be useful. Need to drive more, and it was a relatively easy trip to the bank and home. I did...

    Test Drive or arranged visitation

Is you are looking for words of wisdom, I would say remember that it is just a car. Don't look for flaws, it isn't perfect. But if you look for the good, it really does so much that is so much better.

Yes, in the refreshed you push the sentry icon at the bottom of the screen (camera with red dot) to get the viewer. Also coming to you phone soon, sooner if you have an iPhone.

Any of you have 100/99 scores still not get any FSD till today?

It looks like my download was about 750 MB. Having driven it a little now, it is amazing what it can do at times, but then it does something really simple poorly. I see this getting good fairly soon based on the complex things it can do well. Maybe I am just an optimist and see the glass as...

Any of you have 100/99 scores still not get any FSD till today?

I did notice my car downloaded the update when I got the 99, but it was about 3 days later I got the email and the option based on my router usage information. Not sure what triggers things, but for me it just happened with no additional download or wifi required.

Any of you have 100/99 scores still not get any FSD till today?

Sitting at a true 99 for a few days now, no restarts etc. Wife is driving car today, but so far she has 100's. She just shook her head when I told her to be extra cautious. Didn't even try to convince her it was for her own safety and not the FSD score.

Considering Model S vs Porsche Panamera

Interesting, but you are comparing a 7 year old, $30k Model S, a $50k Model 3 and a ~$130k basically new Porsche. Not really apples to apples.

Tesla’s FSD Beta 10.3 Coming This Friday 10-22-2021

As far as not really being able to disable safety systems, this isn't unusual. On the track, the first thing you do is turn off the traction control systems. This kinda turns it down at best. Very few cars actually turn these systems off despite the implied function of the traction control 'OFF'...

Tesla’s FSD Beta 10.3 Coming This Friday 10-22-2021

Can anyone confirm the 30 day rolling average? My first day was an 84, but nothing under 97 since so I am at 98. Easy 99 30 day average with real driving so I would rather not cheat the system. Found it. The Safety Score Beta is the first release of the Safety Score which is an assessment of...

Refreshed model S Plaid dashboard noise

My hood just touched the stops in the frunk at the hinge. At slow speeds it clicked or rattled like a loose connector at low speeds mostly. Press lightly on the hood near the wipers and see if you hear the rattle. Fixed mine with a small foam pad on the hinge stop until it goes to service if ever.

Considering Model S vs Porsche Panamera

No need for FSD now. You can save $10k and just buy the subscription if needed later. But the porsche doesn't offer FSD, so you shouldn't hold that option cost against the Tesla. Not apples to apples.
  41. JADCa

Considering Model S vs Porsche Panamera

I would choose the 4S over the hybrid. The 4S is what Porsche knows, the hybrid is a very expensive and complex marketing gimmick to me. If I were you, I would seriously consider a new Model S LR. The upfront cost is more, but the true cost of ownership will be less over the next 3 to 5 years I...

Considering Model S vs Porsche Panamera

I teach racing for Porsche and have owned ~20 Porsches, so not THAT biased toward Tesla. That said, for a street car, the Model S is simply better unless you do a LOT of long distance traveling. The Panamera has effectively been replaced by the Taycan so the depreciation will be insane. Also, as...

New FSD Beta Button for 2021 Refreshed Plaid and Long Range

That is all possibly true, but in general, if you have to judge in general using only a couple metrics, theirs should provide good data. Not that a few bad apples can get in, but I can't think of a better simple formula. They can't do this on a case by case basis for every mile of driving.

New FSD Beta Button for 2021 Refreshed Plaid and Long Range

This isn't just a game. The first users are the ones training the system how to drive. I would much prefer the initial FSD be a very smooth and cautious driver. Not a typical Tesla Plaid driver ;). This isn't a ploy Tesla is using to delay releasing the perfect FSD they have, they are actually...
