Winter driving advice, winter tire choices, etc.

I know there are multiple threads that I can’t figure out how to post to. I don’t expect a new conversation on this. I just put on Conti pure contacts. My M3 now drives like a Subaru on wet snowy icy roads. I wish I knew how good my Tesla would drive with these tires or I would have replaced...

    Deer Whistles?

Your anecdotal evidence is not evidence that whistles work. If there were scientific evidence then why don’t insurance companies demand or even offer them? In fact, I have not found scientific peer reviewed evidence that they do. Everyday when I drive down my driveway deer stop, look, say hello...

    Home charger failure

Update on charger failure. I continue to get random events of charger stopping with a constant red light, not flashing. I most recently got a yellow continuous flashing of a yellow light on the car itself. Car was inspected by Tesla SC twice (second time during HW3 install.) no issues but they...

    Home charger failure

My mistake: I have not held The reset button for 5 seconds. I will try that next time and report back. You guys have been great. I truly appreciate it.

Solid red light. I assume I have gen 2 purchased fall 2018

    Home charger failure

I clearly am a poor communicator My main circuit is 200 amps. My Tesla charger is connected to a new 50 amp breaker and the dip switches are set at 40 amps. I think the suggestion to lower the charger to 30 amps is a good idea to see if it will prevent this issue of the charger shutting down...

    Home charger failure

Just LED garage and workshop lights when the car is charging and a frig in the garage which isn’t working much as the outside temp is lower than the frig still.

    Home charger failure

I’m sorry to be so dense but I don’t understand as the Tesla charger is hardwired.
  9. J

    Home charger failure

No aluminum. The connectors look ok to me done by a licensed electrician (I got lazy). The wiring goes from the main box in my basement to a secondary breaker box in my garage area then to the Tesla charger.

    Home charger failure

I’m not sure what you mean by outlet model?

    Home charger failure

50 amp breaker. Dip switches set per manual at 40 amps I think. Car display says 40 amps. Cable barely gets warm.
  12. J

    Home charger failure

the wire gauge appears to be the same size as the internal wiring from the internal bus bar mounting bracket into the charger itself. The wires run through conduit. The whole thing is set as per the manual set for 40 amps to my recollection. I will check the bus bar and the breaker connections...

    Home charger failure

great suggestion but I just opened the charger up. There are no loose connections however.

    Home charger failure

Electrical advice needed. Tesla charger installed by electrician when I bought AWD LR. About once a month the breaker would trip then it fried. Electrician said it was a faulty breaker; ok, I caught it before my house burned down (it was too hot to touch ) with replaced breaker no further...

Has anyone replaced their 12V battery yet?

My 12V was replaced the day before my M3 was to arrive at my home. No explanation. They didn’t have a replacement battery so I had to wait another week for delivery.

    Reliability

You generally get bad opinions on forums it seems just like in my profession you never here about good results fro back surgery! I have had two rover home service which was excellent. Diabetics and road safery

Not specific to Tesla just that this is a Tesla forum and it seems Tesla connectivity would be relatively easy. in my practice we had always felt that all vehicles should be plugged into glucose levels; eg you shouldn’t be able to start your car without an onboard glucose level.
  18. J

    Diabetics and road safery

Thanks for responding. That is only part of the issue. An insulin dependent diabetic goes down fast as you may know. Access to calories (or glucagon) is usually delayed so a falling level say towards 70 should display on the M3 screen, with some chance that the driver can pull over or respond...

    Diabetics and road safery

I’m looking for an app developer to work on an idea of the Tesla notifying a driver of a falling blood sugar level. new constant monitoring and infusion devices are monitored through blue tooth to phones. I want to connect that data to an alarm system to first notify drivers of a falling...

Winter driving proves FSD is a long time away

Never wet, since last post, does nothing to help sensors. On my instrument approaches I still have to take control of the plane and must be able to see the last few hundred vertical feet. Full self landing is just now coming into general aviation. But that is all GPS not visual and radar...

How to condition a faded/dull wood dash?

I was thinking about using a light coat of tung oil. It’s a bit slow drying but I love the finish and gives just a bit of depth.
  24. J

Winter driving proves FSD is a long time away

I failed to mention what should be obvious. We accelerated very slow due to conditions. Also, we stopped twice, once to change drivers and one stop light.

Winter driving proves FSD is a long time away

Just drive 190 miles through northern PA up to the shore of Lake Ontario. Conditions: 32-34 degrees. Moderate rain to light snow at night with minimal slush. Battery charged to 297 miles. Cabin heat set at 68 and 69 most of the trip. Battery warmed at supercharger immediately before we left...

2019.40.2.1 no stop sign of stop light recognition

Sorry for somehow sending last message. The steering well is now constantly moving like it is searching for something. Also, the “new” automatic slowing when approaching a slower moving traffic in the next lane is not new, is annoying and is dangerous as the set speed changes from say 65 to 35...

2019.40.2.1 no stop sign of stop light recognition

Since the update to 40.2.1 my TESLA doesn’t see signs, lights, or traffic cones. The only change I perceive is the car is drifting in the lane perceptably

PPF, ceramic coating, vinyl, paint, costs?

Does the ppf yellow? I’ve had some on my plane and vinyl graphics for years but always in a hanger, and my model 3 is always garaged but now my daughter in law wants to ppf for her car which she keeps outdoors.

    Stuck on ‘update available’

I had similar issues trying to download. I sent a repair request through the app and got a fairly rapid response and it was fixed.

PPF Wrap - this look right?

I have a couple of areas that have grown and are collecting dirt. I am making an appt to have them replace those pieces of vinyl. I don’t know why that happens but I assume the installer didn’t get the edges attached well.

No Loaners at Tesla Service "Bring back the LOANER CARS!!!!"

    Front drive unit failure

F/u to front drive unit failure. Latham SC calls me regularly to update me. Parts are to arrive this week,; it is now ~one week since they towed my car. When asked him why mobile service would tell me I had to drive my sick car 7 hrs to get it repaired, he first responded with a deafening...

    Front drive unit failure

Already had a 12v battery replaced right before delivery. Also mobile service said it was caused by the HV regulator. I don’t see why I got a 12v system warning when the front drive unit was bad.
  34. J

    Front drive unit failure

my Tesla stopped working three times with a warning that the 12v system was not working and the car may not start and may stop at any time. I just got this message today which doesn’t make a lot of sense to me: “The vehicle has been diagnosed and your front drive unit will need to be replaced...

Tesla (the company) killing itself slowly?

I was one who has supported Tesla even with the glitches, but when my M3 flash a signal that the 12V system failed and the car was dead and then 5 minutes later it came back to life. It said the car could possibly not start and may stop working, I had the ranger check it out and then mobile...

Tesla refuses to pick up my car for repair

It’s not the battery but the HV control whatever that is. The ranger was here today and said it can only be fixed at a facility.

Tesla refuses to pick up my car for repair

Yes. The car runs fine right now, but the warning said the car could stop anytime. But how long will that last, who knows.
  38. J

Tesla refuses to pick up my car for repair

i need advice please. The NE Tesla service advisor claims that Tesla does not and will not pick up my car for repairs. The 12v system is causing problems. He claims that neither MT Kisco, Latham, Toronto, nor Pittsburgh will help me. I am a 10-12 hr round trip drive from either one. Do I...

"Lane Keep Assist" - Telsa vs. Subaru Eyesight (My experience)

I just got the latest updates w lane keeping. It works perfectly on my M3. It is so seemless that I could barely tell it happened. My AP is almost perfect as well. It doesn’t slam on the brakes for no reason anymore or wander in wide lanes like it did as of the previous update.

    Inability to download software

I actually drove Tesla around to the side of the house with the router to get full signal. Previously I was able to download with only one bar. I’ll try a reset. Thanks everyone.
  41. J

    Inability to download software

The internet is running two computers an iPad and several iPhones. No problem there. I don’t know how to reboot the Tesla other than pushing both wheels on the steering wheel which I thought was just rebooting the screen.
  42. J

    Inability to download software

Exactly what I see on my screen except I am still on 12.1 and I had WIFI connection with all bars on the level.
  43. J

    Inability to download software

with full internet connectivity my car will not download latest software. St the bottom of the screen it gives the usual statement saying I should connect to WiFi to download. There is a sliver of green at the left of the download bar. Am I doing something wrong?

Model 3 Spoiler ruined by Bird Poop

If that is a ridge I am seeing you have two options: Wet sand it down smooth and if their is enough resin you will be fine. If not a thick resin layer or you have pitting, then sand down smooth without hitting the carbon fibers then apply a cost of high quality epoxy and wet sand it to a glass...

    What is this on PPF?

I have the Same issue in three spots. The problem is road filth ends up underneath it leaving an enlarging brown spot. It is definitely the installer. Mine is taking it back to redo when I get the time to make appt.

    New Solar Install

We have been all electric in Western NY for quite a few years. Geothermal costs us about 150/month for 2800 sf and cathedral ceilings. Hybrid water heater (heat pump) and superheater in the geothermal costs 90/year (not month) on which I put a meter. The problem is w hybrid heater: NOONE can...

Best Model 3 Center Console & Door Switch Wraps?

RPM and wet install: you should use a sprayer that mists on the water underneath and on top. That way you can float the vinyl into position. Yes there will be water bubbles underneath but they dissipate in a couple of days particularly if you don’t try to force the bubbles to the edge by...
