    PGE 2024 Rates

I have solar but when it's cloudy especially in the winter, I charge at the local high school. Most of the local schools got solar under state and local programs and put in banks of electric car chargers under those same programs. They're typically open to the public during non school hours...

    Destination Chargers With Fees

yes, I've done this. I ended up paying $2.70 for about 2.5 hours of charging. That seemed like a fair price. The destination charger was in a mixed use shopping/residential area. I looked it up and they have pretty steep idle fees to keep things moving. That worked out to about $.15/kWh which...

    Can this be repaired?

Agree much too close to the edge

    Out of whack AC pricing

Oh here in silicon valley many employers have free EV charging with a charge valet who shuffles cars around as they get charged. That also allows them to do stacked bumper to bumper parking to save space.

    Out of whack AC pricing

I think it's fine thing for business attracting customers. Where I live local libraries and high schools got solar panels as some stimulus long ago and I'm OK with free AC charging there as well (locally it's only free from 9AM to 4pm).

You could do it from the touch screen when parked.

Leave my old car at Tesla store for a few days when taking delivery of new Tesla

One idea might be to find an amenable parking lot near by that has daily, weekly etc. rates. They've got all the right insurance for a price. You'd probably need to take a second driver with you.

I need to pee.... DAD, I need to pee!

We use the toilet finder app on ios in the US. You can send your selected destination to the tesla app which sends it to the car. Best option I've found for us so far.

    Charge on pickup

Mine was at about 50%. It was a direct delivery from the factory which is roughly 25 miles away.

Los Angeles to Oakland route recommendations

You should be fine stopping at Harris Ranch, Tejon depending on where you're going. Gustine, Kettleman City, and Santa Clarita is a good option. It depends where you're going in LA and how long you'll sit in traffic. It's easy enough to make a mid course correction if it's really hot or run...

Iowa to begin electric vehicle taxes and charging fees

That sounds pretty reasonable. No charge for home charging. The per kwh charge seems to be maybe a 10% surcharge on the supercharger rate.

Adding a Spoiler to a Lease

Leasing is horrible financial proposition unless the vehicle is owned by a business and can be expensed. That said, my experience with some businesses leases is that the leasing company will ding you. Grossly oversimplified example: you add mud flaps, they ding your lease return because you...

Would you prefer your Tesla to have a Euro Style charge socket?

A CCS adapter would be nice and shouldn't be that expensive. CCS and J1772 both speak a variant of the I2C protocol. Electrically that's very simple. It require writing a good sized pile of software. It's likely not been a priority.

    California Carpool Stickers

The federal law that authorizes all of this expires in 2025. So congress needs to act before then to go longer.

What's Wrong with this Picture (Fremont Factory Parking Lot)

They have tons of it at my local home depot in the pool section and at pool store. Just look for liquid pool chlorine.

Yup, picked up 4 miles at the 80% level. Haven't checked other points.

    Anyone using Auto Park feature?

I've tried it a few times. It's very slow and awkward. In busing parking garages and our little downtown areas here I find it holds up traffic and that using it when others are around is rude.

Can you charge other EV using your portable Tesla UMC?

Moderator comment - post may reference terms, sources and products not applicable to UK and Ireland region You might have the case where you have a tesla for longer distance travel and a 2nd car for spouse, kid, whatever that was cheaper and shorter range (think off lease Leaf/Golf/Focus). I...

    Mobile adapter for this plug?

Wiring through the wall looks sketchy at best. It's worth getting a proper box put in the wall unless that cable is armored.

Tesla shutting down Fremont factory beginning March 23rd

As far as I can tell vehicle repair and service shows up as an essential service plus plumbers, electricians, and contractors for essential property repair and maintenance.
  23. T

    Fremont will be shut down!

I think the minimum operations from tesla's standpoint is to run at full production rate. Otherwise they go under. The airlines are all still running.

Sheltering in Place - Charge or not

Yup local gas station had a long line. I just have mine set to 80% and leave it plugged in. I only drive a mile to go the grocery store or 2 miles to the pizza joint for my kids since I'm now wfh.

How can Elon Musk sell stock?

If you are a company officer or director there are very strict rules about selling stock. Most people in this category register a plan with the SEC for regular sales to diversify, free up funds for other projects, and etc. Note executives and board members are usually awarded stock, stock...

Shorting entire market. Proshares ETF. WTF?

These sorts of things are typically used to hedge against securities that have large gains where you don't want to take capital gains. Over a 30 year time frame they are a guaranteed loser. There are all sorts of whacky ETFs and ETN (exchange traded notes) that allow you to gamble some of them...

Performance Range Now Listed as 322 Miles

The more recent software updates (and I gather advertising) seems to take into account wheel and tire configuration. Tire contact patch size and adhesion do make a big difference in efficiency/range. They also make a big difference in performance (0-60, cornering, etc.).

    100kWh battery in a Model 3

Tesla has a track record of increasing battery capacity in the same space and weight on the Model S and X. I would not be surprised if they did this in the 3/Y over time.

7’ Christmas Tree in the Back of a Model 3

I saw a guy at the local christmas tree farm strap a 12 footer to the roof of model 3 with no roof rack. They cracked all 4 windows and ran string through the cabin. Life on the edge.

Has Tesla changed their minds on SCs in urban areas?

With the notable exception of San Francisco proper where I understand it's difficult to find space and get permits.
  42. T

Has Tesla changed their minds on SCs in urban areas?

Certainly in the san francisco bay area there are lots of urban/in town chargers. They've been going up at a steady pace.
  43. T

Do i need to "warm up" batteries before going WOT?

pre warming the battery is a good idea especially if it's cold out. On a model 3 at least the motor is used to warm the battery so you can warm them at the same time.

    MCI Electric Bus

Electric buses make a great deal of sense for cities where particulate emissions from diesel are a big issue. It's good to see long range models coming along as well. In the big cities of china electric buses are all the rage.

    Tesla’s Supercharging Math

There's energy loss in charging and supercharging often has to heat the battery as well. That's all electricity that doesn't end up as charge.

    RV Parks Charging

Bad/cheap GCFI's are also an issue. I carry 14-30 and 5-20 for 20 amp 120V. Ground faults are a really common problem. Best of luck

    Home charging planning

That sounds like it would work out fine. You'll need to buy an adapter for the Tesla portable charger as it doesn't come with the 14-50 any more. Btw amazon will sell you 100' run of 6/3.

Experimenting with an "Off Grid" Solar Charging Setup. Need Some Help.
