    Tire Diameters and AWD System

Stability control on my RWD 3 got *extremely* unhappy just with brand new rears and fronts at the wear bars. Spent hundreds of miles that way, it could never learn to deal with it, despite TPMS resets and the like. So I bet it'll be really unhappy with just 1 smaller tire. Good enough in an...

Flat tire out of warranty options

This is actually a fairly interesting question that I think is being dismissed too easily. I also always thought "eh, we have roadside, it's fine." Got a flat on our 3 a few years back when the eco tires were at 24k miles and about to need replacement anyway. Roadside came and gave us a loaner...

$175 "diagnosis fee" on warranty work?

Going through this right now; Tesla wants to charge me a bunch of diag fees for stuff. I get why they do it, and some of them are reasonable because I'm nit-picking before the warranty expires, but others are not (eg, backup camera diagnosis fee). Regardless, they wanted me to sign an...

Installing a Instrument Cluster Dashboard Displayer mickey mouse

This is pretty neat, and really kind of what I've been wanting. I dislike not having a display right in front of me; not so much that the main display is hard to use or see, but that it's a missed opportunity to show more info at once. Plus being able to actually tell when your turn signal is...

    rear view camera not working

My backup camera was intermittent when we first got the car in 2018 but it got better and better over the years, until the past 6 months. Now it's gotten to the point where it basically never works. Trying to take the car into the service center, gave them my list of 6 or 8 issues, most of them...

    Supercharger - Jackson, CA (LIVE 5 Nov 2020, 8 V3 stalls)

Holiday weekend is bad timing for a closure. My in-laws found out the hard way, but were able to get a charger at Kirkwood eventually (there are fewer available now, and they were all taken when they arrived). Also, it sounds like the KW chargers took forever -- i think 16h estimate so it must...

    Supercharger - Jackson, CA (LIVE 5 Nov 2020, 8 V3 stalls)

@bmah, I saw your quotes in the Amador Business Ticker: How Tesla Came to Jackson Found this thread when searching for Kirkwood supercharger. It's been rumored for awhile; I guess there's a KPMUD meeting happening on May 8 that has EV charging on the agenda. It sounds like they've disabled the...

    Auto dimming mirrors

Huh. Interesting that they dropped the dimming function. I guess I should get my US spec dimming mirrors up on eBay :D
  10. R

Do European Model 3s have Convex Side mirrors?

Yes, they work perfectly, I've got them on my US car. part numbers: LH: 925-2455-001 RH: 925-2456-001
  11. R

US and European side mirrors compatibility

Ditto, I bought both as a pair, and I like having it without the lettering, but I would't bother otherwise :) Heated and dimming work perfectly on the euro mirrors on my US car.
  12. R

    Added convex side mirror

I bought the Suma mirrors (clear, not blue) a couple months ago, they worked fine minus the dimming of course. Then a few weeks ago was able to source some proper European Tesla mirrors from a parts seller in Latvia. Keep an eye on eBay for part numbers: LH: 925-2455-001 RH: 925-2456-001...

    Supercharger - Kettleman City, CA (LIVE 15 Nov 2017, 24 V2 + 16 V3 stalls, lounge)

I did a roadtrip in my 3 from the bay area to Santa Clarita and back in one day (twice now, heh). I found the 250kW chargers to be a useless party trick. Car had horrible efficiency on the way down; low 40s ambient temps i guess was the reason. Took virtually all 310mi of range to go like...

Thanks for the quick reply. I've updated my comment to reflect (ha!) that fact.

Group Buy: Suma Convex Side Mirrors WITHOUT Blue Tint

Just got my mirrors tonight, installed them, took a quick spin around the block. Massive, massive improvement over factory. I'd give them a solid 4/5 stars. Better than anything else out there, vastly better than the factory mirrors, they eliminate the colossal blind spots the car comes with. I...

Group Buy: Suma Convex Side Mirrors WITHOUT Blue Tint

Interesting. I thought maybe it was related to the dimming function -- eg, I was seeing one image from the dimming layer and one from the 'normal' reflective layer. Ha, shipped from Bellevue. I used to live there. Well, mine are out for delivery, so I'll probably get 'em slapped on tonight...

Group Buy: Suma Convex Side Mirrors WITHOUT Blue Tint

Just got my shipping notice! looking forward to it. I'll buy another pair once you add in dimming.. if I can't source Tesla Euro mirrors before then. I've been driving vehicles with Euro mirrors more than the Tesla lately, so it'll be an (annoying) shock to have to go back to the bad mirrors...

    Supercharger - Kettleman City, CA (LIVE 15 Nov 2017, 24 V2 + 16 V3 stalls, lounge)

Great, thanks for the quick reply. I'll be in a bit of a hurry on this trip so having info upfront and not spending time hunting around when we're trying to make it to an appointment for my wife will make a difference. IIRC the source I found (maybe the map in the car?) says there are 14x...

    Supercharger - Kettleman City, CA (LIVE 15 Nov 2017, 24 V2 + 16 V3 stalls, lounge)

My understanding is only some of the units at Kettleman City are v3. How do I tell them apart? Not too worried about cars that can’t support 250kw taking them up as I’ll be there early on a weekday AM. Speaking of which, when do the baristas show up? :) Thanks!

Group Buy: Suma Convex Side Mirrors WITHOUT Blue Tint

I don't see any info on how the turn signal option works. I don't think I'm interested, but it made me wonder where the wiring comes from. It sounds like there are 2 concerns with width. One is that you'll just see more mirror housing -- this is definitely something i worried about on my M...

    Model 3 reliability so far?

17k and 1 year, no failure type issues. Had 3 initial quality issues that I finally got around to fixing after 3mo. Slight high-frequency rattle in the dash vent (turns out there was a clip lost down there somewhere). My wife couldn't hear it, but it drove me nuts. Glovebox never opened from...

Common way to greet other Model 3 drivers?

I see a couple hundred a day, so no. Even when we got ours a year ago, you'd see then everywhere. My M Coupe, I still wave. Sometimes when driving the wrong car :D But there are only about 2000 of those in the US.

My Solution to the Blind Spot Problem

Glad someone's solving the problem. Honestly, wide angle mirrors don't even need tint because headlights create less glare on a convex mirror. I think I'm going to hold off until I can get the proper OE solution, as I don't feel like doing a wire splice *and* losing my dimming. A bit hokey, IMO...

Planning to only use 110 outlet

I don't know what the science is, but my dad has a 2 year old Model S with only 14,000 miles on it. He was charging to, I think, 50%, and the car's rated range was declining fairly precipitously. From, I think, 259 miles when new, to somewhere in the 230s. I think it was verging on causing...

Planning to only use 110 outlet

That sounds painfully miserable, and possible untenable. But it depends on if you EVER plan to do anything with your car other than commute, if you plan to return directly home after work *every day* so that you can immediately begin trickle charging, etc. I wouldn't want to think "I could go...

Homelink Garage Door Opening no longer included with Premium Interior Package

Dumb, since it's just a software feature they're taking away. I paid $200 for an aftermarket garage door opener that mimicked the factory buttons around the shifter in my Golf R, and it took an hour or two of installation. The 3 is the first car I've had that came with it 'free'. So I don't...

No negative views in Model 3 forum?

Agree. Been on many car forms for decades. I bought my first new car in 2016 and I generally found that, the newer the car, the less educated (about cars in general) the owners are, and the more likely they are to think that they have bought the pinnacle of automotive engineering that can have...

    HW3 2019.16.2 Waiting room

Broke my garage door opener functionality. Not a mundane detail. Works sometimes, doesn't work others. Rebooting the tablet 'fixed' it briefly. I'm on 2019.16.2.

Supercharger - Menlo Park, CA (LIVE 21 Nov 2019, 18 urban stalls)

Oh wow, I parked by that construction a week or two ago, didn't realize it was a supercharger going in! Will be a nice addition for the 280 corridor for sure. I guess we'll have 3 superchargers within 6 miles of our house :D

    100 charge to 300 miles

It changes a lot. 90% on ours was 278-277, now with the firmware update a few months back, 90% is 284-287ish. I've seen as high as maybe 317 on a full charge, but the first time i charged to 100% it only got to like 304. Got about 14k miles on the clock now.

CA South Bay Area to Kirkwood ski resort in one shot with Model 3 AWD LR

Thanks Marc! We chatted on a friend's FB feed a few weeks back. Just took our RWD LR 3 up to Kirkwood from Redwood City, leaving with 315mi range (~100% though it hadn't quite stopped charging, might have been able to get 1mi more out of it). This was over Easter weekend. Arrived with 70mi...

Supercharger - San Jose, CA - Santana Row (26 urban stalls)

I'm seeing 10/10 available at Valet and 21/26 available in the normal supercharger location at SR (using the app). I think this means they must all be open now -- since on Friday you'd only see 1-3 of 26 available when very few stalls were occupied, but most didn't actually work :)

Supercharger - San Jose, CA - Santana Row (26 urban stalls)

I found out why the app says only a couple are available -- most of them are switched off, or something. My app said 2/26 available when I took the car up to test it out, but neither one of the two I tried worked. I wasn't gonna spend 20 minutes trying every parking spot to find the available...

Supercharger - San Jose, CA - Santana Row (26 urban stalls)

Yup, very odd setup. On 4: 15 destination chargers, some of which had 60min parking signs, but not all. 26 superchargers; 23 of them in a row, 2 more 'around the corner', and 1 last one on the other side of the elevator shaft. On the ground floor, there are 2 more superchargers; 1 is in a...

Epidemic of Model 3 small window break-ins

Eh, it's a trend among thieves. Trends come and go. Ours was broken into, the first car I've EVER had broken into in my decades of driving, even often leaving radar detectors and the like sitting out in the open.. but it's just a fact of life. I'll take a few precautions when leaving my car in a...

OMG - Wake Times from app are SOOOOHHHOOO SLOW.

Just checked the car, it's parked in an open (eg, not underground) garage at my wife's work. 2min8sec. *yawn* Oh well, sounds like this fix wasn't promised for this software update anyway, I think earlier in the thread someone said 52 or 54, we just got 50. It's far from the end of the world...

OMG - Wake Times from app are SOOOOHHHOOO SLOW.

Seems to be more like 10-25 seconds now, much much much improved. Unfortunately, our work wifi roaming seems wonky, so lots of times if I open the app at my desk, I can't check on the car or preheat or whatever on my 3-4min trip to the basement. Car doesn't wake before my phone roams to...

First boatload of M3 to Europe

Posted in another thread, but I've seen 5 truckloads of Model 3s with european plate holders going up 101 North towards San Francisco in the past 4 days. Surprised me; I didn't realized they shipped cars into/out of SF. I would have thought Oakland if it was in the bay area. Good info. Reminds...

OMG - Wake Times from app are SOOOOHHHOOO SLOW.

I got 50.6 last night... Just tested it a few hours ago, 25 seconds, just tested again now, 20 seconds. It "feels" better than it was before, but that's only 2 data points. Even pre-50.6, sometimes it worked almost immediately, so I'm not ready to call it fixed yet. That said, we had pretty poor...

RWD 1st Snow Driving Experience with All Season Tires

Well, it's flatter in Boston, for one. I guess if you have zero hills and don't care about being able to stop in an emergency, good luck on your all-seasons. Coming back from the mountains a couple weekends ago, I saw what you'll typically see when it's actually slippery with actual...

OMG - Wake Times from app are SOOOOHHHOOO SLOW.

Are you effing kidding me? Of COURSE it's too slow. I often try to preheat the car before we leave for work in the morning. It goes something like this: * Open app, wait for car to wake up for 10+ seconds, turn around to do something else, forget about phone, unlock phone again, car is still...

Why did you purchase a Model 3 and what were your other options?

Nothing, really. Waited in line for a reservation so we'd have the option when the time came to replace my wife's 08 Subaru Impreza, and give her carpool access since she had the longer commute. We were planning on getting the SR if we bought anything. Well, as our reservation time got close...

    X-Ice XI3 on Model 3 AWD

I ran Xice3 on my Golf R and they were incredible. Bit like driving on jell-o blocks in the dry, took a lot of the fun out of a sporty car, but I figure that's what ya get with proper snows.
