    Hansshow Mini dash display 5.16"

Mine came from AliExpress this morning, 9 days after ordering. Install was hard - the display wouldn't click into the steering wheel until my wife pushed up with her knees and I pressed down, My car is a 2018 with Intel, so it was tedious to get the connectors into the computer. All in all it...

Time to replace upper-control arm ball joints

My upper control arms were replaced again last week, only 2 years and 12K miles after the first time. Fortunately still under warranty - they claim that the new version should last longer.

Time to replace upper-control arm ball joints

Mine were replaced last month - 18K miles on Oct 2018 build - bad squeak on bumps and steering wheel movement. I got a loaner and it was ready at the end of day. The worst part is I forgot how to turn on AP on a Model S and had to drive 20 highway miles manually! It was surprisingly disorienting.

Can I Charge With This Plug?

its pretty easy to convert it to a regular 6-20. The nice thing about 240v 20 amp is that it uses the same wire as 120v so its as easy to work with as normal house wiring. I've charged with a 6-20 outlet for 18 months now and have had no trouble, even when I was doing 100+ miles a day. I did...

    mobile connector adapter fault

I had a 6-20 adapter fault just like that - the charge rate was limited to 8 amps. Using a spare, I verified that the fault was in the adapter and went to the service where they did a quick swap.

    Charging with 6-20 adapter

I've used a 6-20 for charging for the last 10 months/10,000 miles with only a few problems. Several weeks ago there was a heat wave with high temps in the evening and thunderstorms. For several days the charging would run for a while and then shut off. Once it restarted by itself, another...

Tesla Home Charger. Redundancy. (Poll included)

I've a bit surprised that alternate 240 outlets (e.g. 6-20) get so little mention. In my case I didn't want to install a 14-50 because I knew I was moving in under 2 years, and I had a crowded breaker box. As it turned out I had an unused 240v 20 amp circuit that could easily and cheaply be...

Model 3 12v Battery issues, monitoring, Aftermarket replacement

AtlasBX is not a cheap flooded battery line, they are a major Korean company 75 years old, part of Hankook for the last 50. They supply many batteries for a variety of major companies. They were, in fact, the first company in Korea to make AGM batteries and sell a full line of them. They are...

Model 3 12v Battery issues, monitoring, Aftermarket replacement

It is a myth that AGM batteries are totally sealed. In fact they must be vented or they would explode in an overcharge event. Many AGM car batteries have a vent that can (must!) be fitted with a vent hose. Lots of discussion about this on various forums such as miata and bmw and examples of...

Model 3 12v Battery issues, monitoring, Aftermarket replacement

Do you have a source for this? I haven't seen any mention of that. I could imagine that due to a shortage a flooded was substituted but even that seems unlikely.

Model 3 12v Battery issues, monitoring, Aftermarket replacement

The stock battery is a 45 amp-hour deep cycle AGM battery, value should be under $100. My post concerned replacing it with a lithium ion battery for $450. An AGM battery is certainly cheaper than lithium, but a good step up from the flooded batteries that are used as starting batteries in...

Model 3 12v Battery issues, monitoring, Aftermarket replacement

I don't understand the point of this. There are three basic causes of premature failure - a faulty manufacture (likely in this case), severe overcharging - a dangerous situation with any battery, and chronic undercharging (may be hardware, software, or just plain neglect). I don't see how a...

Slacker Radio Questions - Benefit to paid account?

You can see the entire station playlist for the stations and add more artists and jiggle settings somewhat. The only major annoyance I've had is that many songs in an artist's "station" are blacked out when you try to add them to a playlist. It looks like some labels only allow "random"...

Slacker Radio Questions - Benefit to paid account?

And we know for a certainty that support knows everything about all products, even from different companies, and never lies. I'm not saying its not true, or wasn't true at some point, just saying that a comment from one support person does not make it a certainly for all time.

Slacker Radio Questions - Benefit to paid account?

I'm not convinced the bit rate is higher; some folks say its doesn't work but it sounds fine to me. I love the custom stations, playlists, and unlimited skips. I also use the account a lot on my boat and home, and also when travelling so I figure 'm getting my money's worth.

What's your top feature request that could be accomplished via software update?

My pet peeves: An audible feedback when "Hold" is engaged, and perhaps disengaged. Optional, of course. I use hold often and occasionally get bit when I assume it on when its not. The auto windshield washer would be a superb feature if it actually worked, as is it's an embarrassment...

No rinse wash versus hose and bucket

I did my first wash of the winter a few days ago - it was 60F in Boston for the parade! I used a bucket of warm water and OPT No-Rinse and a dozen washing towels. A first pass was to remove the caked on salt; I then did a second pass with a drying towel in one hand. Windows and top had one...

    Slacker on demand not working?

I have Slacker Premium and "on demand" works just fine. That said, there are numerous restrictions caused by license agreements. For instance, if you say "Play Back in the USSR" you get Billy Joel's live version. If you "Play Back in the USSR by the Beatles" you get one of the alternate...

Is this really going to happen? Adding artificial noise. It’s a shame if so.

I believe it would become part of the state vehicle inspection - that's the way the commercial regs work - "If the State requires all vehicles registered in the State to be inspected through its mandatory program, then the motor carrier must use the State program to satisfy the Federal...

Things I learned about Slacker Streaming

My several favorite stations also carried over. I just added some modifications to a station (added Jon Cleary to Marcia Ball station) and it was picked up in the car. As near as I can tell everything works, except maybe 320kbps.

Wife's car was a paperweight. (And not a very good one). [RESOLVED]

By this definition running out of gas qualifies as "bricking" a car. Over the years, I've had several occasions where a car failed to start and a required part was not immediately available. I've had issues that stumped the experts for a while, and I've seen numerous failures at inconvenient...

Things I learned about Slacker Streaming

Slacker Premium has worked for me since I got the car. I had set it this summer in anticipation and my several playlists carried over with no issue. I can't say I get the high bit rate, but at my advanced years I'm not sure I'd hear the difference.

Length of UMC cable that comes with M3

I have mixed feelings on this - on the one hand I recently used an extension cord for my 6-20 outlet because a guest in an RV needed my normal spot. It worked just fine. On the other hand, it isn't the length of the cord that causes problems, its the connectors that invariably fail. Adding an...

Help w sticker shock over adding amp to detatched garage

I setup a 6-20 outlet using an old 240V 20A circuit intended for an air conditioner. The wires are the same as a 120V line (though hooked up differently) and it since it used the same breaker there were minimal changes. The total cost was $250 for the electrician and $25 in parts. This should...

    Charging stopped during heavy rain/hail

Last night I had a charge scheduled for 11pm which turned out to be in the middle of a major rainstorm. According to TeslaFI the car woke up, sniffed around for a few minutes, then went back to sleep without charging. When I woke it at 7am it started charging on its own.

What's the best 12V jump starter to keep handy?

The 12V battery in a Tesla is an AGM battery, very similar to the batteries used in mobility scooters, jump starters, and small uninterruptible power supplies. I use a 35 Amp-hour battery (size "U1" - a large scooter battery) as a backup for a cpap machine. The cost is about $65 on Amazon, and...

What was your wait at pickup?

I got my car 9 days ago at Dedham, MA. I was there at 1pm and it was a zoo. 90 minutes of waiting to find out the car was actually on-site. Another 90 minutes to process, including a minor change that required re-doing insurance/RMV forms. I was out by 5 pm, or about a 4 hour process. Most...

    Dedham MA waiting room

I only have the main Dedham number - (781) 471-3001. I never had much luck getting through to sales there, but business may have an entry in the phone tree. My agent told me not to worry, they will call us because that's the only way they sell a car! I'm not sure if Saturday is an issue though.

    Dedham MA waiting room

The business office at Tesla Dedham handles everything. They will fax the info to the agent who will return a fax. EV plates will be supplied by Tesla unless you already have plates. You should talk to your agent to verify this and make sure they know how much insurance to put on. BTW, the...

    Dedham MA waiting room

There is certainly the chance of morning frost but its usually burned off by 10AM. On the other hand, I came at 1PM on Thursday, and it was getting dark at my "orientation" at about 4:30! I had found my car at 3 and did an "unauthorized" inspection then. The "no deliveries before 2" was in...

    Dedham MA waiting room

Although I was told my car was stuck in RI, it was there when I went to do paperwork on Thursday. It took 4 hours of slightly controlled chaos to drive away, but the car was virtually perfect (one tiny paint scrape at the headlight and the headlight assembly may need some adjustment). They...

To rotate, or not to rotate?!

That was on previous cars. I've had many cars, some with a set of winter tires on rims, but all have had a spare. My yet to be delivered Model 3 is the first car I will have had without a spare, and I'm not sure I'll get winter tires. Hence my question.

To rotate, or not to rotate?!

Thanks, but my question was specifically how to to it without an extra wheel. Sorry that wasn't clear.
  42. C

To rotate, or not to rotate?!

A question on rotating: I've usually done my own summer/winter swaps, and changed flats etc, but I've never rotated 4 tires in place. On the Model 3 can this be done with one jack? The Rennstand looks nice but for the price I can get a second floor jack.

Nomad wireless charger, new or old?

I don't know - I saw a comment about it a week ago and cancelled Monday morning. I ordered (and received) the Skyline adapter for cables to allow for use with cases. This will do for a month or so but I'll probably end up with a wireless charger next year. Oddly, I didn't mind paying a fairly...

Nomad wireless charger, new or old?

I canceled my order when I heard about the "gen2" version. $129 is way to much without the (now un-necessary) battery. I'll wait til the dust settles - I expect a reasonable version for about $50-60.

    Dedham MA waiting room

I just got my email for delivery on 11/8. A question for anyone who has picked up in Dedham: my insurance agent says that the dealer generally provides plates after faxing with the agent to verify insurance. Is this the case? Also, I've noticed that most MA Teslas have EV plates - do these...

I live in a condo. The main breaker is only 70A. Now what? [Resolved]

I'm wondering why 240v 20 amp is not viable. This would use a 6-20 socket which would provide 16 amps, or 15 miles per hour charging. It can recharge 150 miles in 10 hours, or a full charge in 20. Even 15 amp service at 240 is not that bad as long as the daily commute is not too far.

Anybody else caught up in the AutoAnything.com Maxpider floor mat debacle?

I don't see how this is a debacle. I got a $45 discount, free shipping, I knew there would be a long delay, and they still made it here before the car did. Ordered 7/24 from Autoeverything, arrived today.

    Model 3 Production Levels Down?

Again, I'm not a tax pro, but I think you're wrong. If this were a "refundable tax credit" you would be right. But the Tesla credit is a "non-refundable" meaning if the credit takes the tax burden negative there is no refund. Fast, affordable filing and trusted tax guidance, all year long.
