Just received software update notification 2023.26.11. Release notes seem to suggest this is the FSD beta update. I have HW4. Installing now. Will update after install.

Tesla decided to switch the tow hitch harness connector to a new molex type. From my research and talking with Molex rep, Molex has not released the male mating connector for this new connector yet. Until that happens, tesla wont be able to make the tow harness. What a fail.

There hasn’t been a change. All Fremont built model Ys have matrix. All Austin built ones do not. It’s been that way since the Y was released. This is why I drove 300 miles to pick up the car at Fremont.

Yes, installed the homelink module and found the extra plug with cap.

In case anyone is interested, looks like the HW4 model Ys are prewired for radar. Here is a picture of the connector.

Surprised they’re fixing it and not claiming within spec.

It’s not hit or miss for matrix for Austin. It doesn’t exist.

You can adjust steering ratio, eliminate any noise/ vibration transfer.

Yup it upsets me. Have to pick up the car 300 Miles away to try to guarantee a Fremont build with matrix lights. With the highland launch imminent and the Y refresh at least 1 year away, now they will have 3 different versions of the headlights. Isn’t that just accomplishing the opposite?

Which one is the new one? The matrix “global” headlights have been used since 2021 in the model 3. It is the same light used in the model Y. Are you saying Tesla will revert all Model 3 and Model Y back to the reflectors?

That picture is from IAAi, which is an auction company for salvage cars. Where did you purchase the car from and where did you get that picture? Parts of story is not adding up.

Please explain why they’ve been making two different headlights for the model Y for this long.

It is pretty much guaranteed that the current model Y lsnwith HW4 doesn’t come with radar. The question is whether the harness is there and feasibility of retrofit if needed in the future.

That's incorrect. HW2.5 remains on pre-vision software. HW2.5 probably not powerful enough run vision.

I personally feel autopilot got worse after “upgrade” 2.5 to 3. Slower response to acceleration and slow downs in traffic.

There’s no advantage right now. It might be even worse than HW3 at this point. But the point is at some point HW4 will surpass HW3. Do you want to be left behind in the future?

Different physical dimensions, different harness, and Tesla will not allow it. Even if you replace all the modules, harness, and cameras, it would require advanced level hacking for the car to accept the new hardware.

on the Tesla website, when you look at the source code, it lists all the options for that particular vin. That’s how websites like Tesla-info tells you all the options.

Well, Tesla do label these Y as having AP04, which is HW4.

I wonder why Tesla is not including radar on HW4 on model Y when the S and X have it. Supply shortage? So many inconsistencies.

USS were removed. There should still be GPS at least. And I’m curious to see if it has the radar back. The model X and S with HW 4 has radar back. This is what my 2018 model s shows:

Go to your Tesla account where it shows your vin on a computer. View source code. Using the find tool, search for AP04 or APH4. AP04 is hw4 APH4 is HW3

The side camera being a telltale sign of HW4 is not only by the presence of it. You do need to look at it closely. If you closely, you can clearly tell a difference between a side camera on HW3 and HW4.

There hasnt been an official announcement of HW4 on Model X and S either but its been happening.
