just got this alert, not sure what it means

Same problem after the software update. It recorded footage using Sentry mode, even though it said the drive was not working. Still, I did the soft reboot and the problem went away. Thanks for the tip!

    Mach-E review from Model 3 SR+ owner...

Glad you like your Ford. Hope lots of other people do, too. There is room for a lot of EVs out there! But really, listen to your own words. Looks are subjective. I'm not a fan of fat boxy cars like the MME. Many of the lines of the Model 3 are classic and will look good in 20, 30, even 50 years...

California Utilities Plan All Out War On Solar, Please Read And Help

Solar owner do pay their fair share. With PG&E net metering, for example, we pay monthly fees specified for transmission/infrastructure. No freebies here. This on top of everyone else's replies about how solar helps reduce the utilities' costs.

Anyone else dislike the new UI?

Just want to add my voice that I hate the new UI, too. I want the bigger map and speedometer reading back! Only thing I like is having the wiper option easier to access along the bottom.

What's the lowest charge level you've had?

What is it with Barstow? I did a trip from Santa Cruz, CA, to Colorado and back, using Tesla's recommended stops, and the only time it went below about 20% was on the way to Barstow. I was at 2% when I pulled in.

    No Radio since 12.4!

Same problem for me--radio doesn't want to play after the latest software update, just the lovely wheel that spins and spins on the screen. Double button reboot fixes it, for a while, but it keeps happening, and that's not a fun thing to do while driving. Each time it's happened is when I go...

What’s the dumbest thing you’ve heard about EVs?

Not quite to the point, but there were predictions by urban planners in the late 1800s that the growth of New York City in the coming decades would result in so much horse sh*t for the city to remove that the streets would be unusable.

G Good idea about the solder prior to install.

Same here. No web, rebooted, worked for a day, then no web again.

    $2500 CA Rebate Experience?

Hey, thanks! Never would have thought of that.

DIY Almost Free Super Bright LEDs

I don't think you will be happy. They are functional but dim. Tesla should have done better. They are only better than cars that have no trunk and puddle lights (remember those?). But the headlights are bright : )

    $2500 CA Rebate Experience?

CA rebate: applied online the day I got my car, July 2. Check came last Friday, Oct. 12. So, over 3 months. Faster than the Feds, though. Have to wait until 2019 to file for that one. PG&E was a matter of weeks. Got my HOV clean air stickers in less than a month.

Model 3 Interior lighting. Best product, and frunk add.

Nice soldering job, prettier than my work. Maybe I'll redo the footwell ones and take out the original LEDs, but the trunk and door lights are on so briefly, and life moves forward with other projects.... Cheers.

Model 3 Interior lighting. Best product, and frunk add.

Thanks for the tip about the solder, didn't know that. I only left one, on the passenger door, unsoldered, so it's not on too often, but I'll take care of it. When you open up one of the lights (scary part was prying off the plastic covers without breaking them), you'll see the contacts rise...

Model 3 Interior lighting. Best product, and frunk add.

Abstract Ocean sells them as well. Or DIY. Here's a thread on that: DIY Almost Free Super Bright LEDs Pretty easy project. Trunk is very bright now. I have since modified the footwell and puddle lights the same way, slipped a piece of blue gel (stage lighting) into each of those, and now have...

    Aerowheel Paint Job

I saw a silver Model 3 in Santa Cruz, CA last week with aero wheels painted silver. It looked great! No trompe l'oeil, just solid silver. Wish I'd been able to snap a photo in time, but I was on my bike, and those cars are just so darn fast : ) I took my aeros off a while ago (when my cap kit...

DIY Almost Free Super Bright LEDs

The strip fit perfectly. Photo below. With the adhesive back, I was able to fix it in place so that the connectors touched, and the lights worked even without solder. I soldered them anyway, figuring vibration and time would take their toll. Thanks for the tips about getting the board out and...

DIY Almost Free Super Bright LEDs

I ordered this set of bright white LEDs: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B074N4YVDK/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Only $17. Not quite as bright at the SMD5630, but this roll has twice as many lights/foot as the others I saw, so thought they might work better for fitting onto the...

Exterior piece next to passenger mirror loosening?

Did the repair with Gorilla Glue and a popsicle stick from my surf board repair kit to spread glue, a C-clamp, some thin boards, and a cotton rag to protect the black plastic. Photos below. Worked well, a bit of clean up from the GG expanding but it came off easily. I glued the plastic in...

Exterior piece next to passenger mirror loosening?

Thinking of a very thin layer of Gorilla Glue and clamping it. If I do, will share pics. They need to replace these, though. I see it separating along the lower open edge now, too.

Received Red California HOV Stickers for Model 3

Strange bureaucratic inconsistencies. Maybe a policy change over summer and hopefully you'll get the extension. Here's mine:

    Cabin noise

I haven't noticed much wind noise but was stunned by the road noise when taking a trip on I 80 and secondary roads into the Sierra. I mean, I just quit driving a 2003 Jetta TDI oil burner, and the road noise was never this bad (okay, maybe I couldn't hear it over the diesel engine). Thanks for...

    Bay Area Tint Advice

Check out Transparent Glass Coatings of Monterey Bay. They're based in Santa Cruz but may be worth the travel. I had all four windows done for $258 with Formula One Llumar Pinnacle series (the middle range). They did a terrific job and have done quite a few Model 3s. Back windshield would double...

    Broken garage door opener

Yep, similar problem. Programmed Homelink easily, lasted about about a week, then started working when it felt like it, now not at all. I've gone through the process several times of programming it. The icon is green and flashes its little bars but nothing happens with the garage door. The...

    App draining iPhone battery?

Yes, heavy drain when the Tesla app is open, even with Location Services set to while using and after turning off background app refresh. Only solution I've found is to close the app.

Received Red California HOV Stickers for Model 3

Check the paperwork that you are supposed to keep in the car. Just got mine, and there it says they expire in 2022.

Exterior piece next to passenger mirror loosening?

Yes, I'm curious, too, how they fixed it. I set up a service (Santa Clara, CA) for both passenger and driver triangles. Passenger side is way out at the top, and the driver side does the push in, click, then pop back out thing. They said it's a common problem, no good fix, have tried various...

No fully leather-free (vegan) option being planned for the Model 3

I'd be willing to take a bullet that my Model 3 steering wheel is not leather, but wait, that's what Michael Cohen said about defending his former client. Really, though, it does not feel like leather. Feels just like the seats.

    fit and finish issues

I set up a service (Santa Clara, CA) for the passenger triangle. Mine is way out at the top, too (and driver side a smidgen). They said it's a common problem, no good fix, have tried various things, and there will "probably" be a recall "some time in the future." They also said it's entirely...

Anyone wishing the dash had some kind of light at night?

Anyone wishing the dash had some kind of light at night?

I've had my Model 3 for a week and love it. Took it for my first night drive and found the dash "sullen" with no light. It was the first time I found myself glancing through my steering wheel for that old-style dash console, a little light to brighten things up. I like the effects of the...

    Order estimate pushed back

Also got the delayed to June message... "expect to be ready" is pretty vague, though, and leaves Tesla the opportunity to push the date back even more. Sure, it's great they let us know, but pretty poor communication in my opinion. Not even a lip service apology. And if they had any competition...
